NEIGRIHMS MD Anatomy FAQs
Ques. What is the scope of MD Anatomy after completing the programme from NEIGRIHMS?
Ans. MD Anatomy graduates from NEIGRIHMS are primarily eligible to work as Assistant Professors or Lecturers in Anatomy departments of medical colleges across India, which is one of the most in-demand academic positions given the acute shortage of anatomy faculty nationwide. Graduates can also pursue careers in medical research, forensic anatomy, clinical anatomy, and medical illustration. Some graduates also go on to pursue super-speciality programmes (DM/MCh) in neurosciences or pursue PhD in anatomical sciences. The NMC mandates that all medical colleges must have qualified anatomy faculty, making job prospects strong.
Ques. How many seats are available for MD Anatomy at NEIGRIHMS and who can apply?
Ans. There are only 2 seats for MD Anatomy at NEIGRIHMS. Of these, 1 seat is under the All India Quota and is filled through MCC NEET PG counselling, open to candidates from across India. The other 1 seat is reserved for candidates who have passed MBBS from NEIGRIHMS (NEIGRIHMS alumni quota). Notably, there are no Open NE category seats for MD Anatomy at NEIGRIHMS, unlike some other specialities. This makes it a highly competitive programme with very limited seats.
Ques. Do PG students at NEIGRIHMS receive a stipend? What are the financial benefits?
Ans. Yes, PG students (designated as Junior Residents) at NEIGRIHMS receive a monthly stipend: Rs. 75,000 per month in the 1st year, Rs. 80,000 per month in the 2nd year, and Rs. 85,000 per month in the 3rd year, along with applicable City Compensatory Allowance (CCA) and Dearness Allowance (DA). This stipend is in addition to the hostel accommodation provided on campus. Given the very low fee structure (total Rs. 1,25,600 for 3 years excluding mess), the stipend makes the programme financially very attractive compared to private medical colleges.
Ques. What is the bond requirement for MD Anatomy at NEIGRIHMS?
Ans. All PG students must execute a bond on a non-judicial stamp paper at the time of joining. The bond amount is tiered based on the year of departure: Rs. 10 lakh if leaving before completing 1 year, Rs. 15 lakh if leaving during the 2nd year, and Rs. 20 lakh if leaving during the 3rd year without completing the course. Additionally, if a student opts for a seat but decides not to join after counselling, they must deposit Rs. 50,000 to get their original certificates back. Original certificates are retained by the institute until course completion.
Ques. Is MD Anatomy a good career choice for MBBS graduates who could not get a clinical PG seat?
Ans. MD Anatomy is often considered by MBBS graduates who are interested in academics and research but could not secure a clinical PG seat in their preferred speciality. It offers a stable career path in medical education, with strong job security as anatomy faculty positions are mandated by NMC for all medical colleges. However, candidates should be aware that MD Anatomy is a preclinical speciality and does not involve direct patient care. Those who wish to transition to clinical practice after MD Anatomy may find it challenging. It is best suited for those genuinely interested in teaching, research, and academic medicine.
Ques. What is the curriculum and training like for MD Anatomy at NEIGRIHMS?
Ans. The MD Anatomy curriculum at NEIGRIHMS follows the competency-based postgraduate training programme guidelines prescribed by the National Medical Commission. The 3-year programme covers advanced gross anatomy, histology, embryology, neuroanatomy, applied and clinical anatomy, and research methodology. Students are expected to conduct original research and submit a thesis as part of the degree requirements. They also participate in undergraduate MBBS teaching as part of their training, which prepares them for a career in medical education. The programme includes regular seminars, journal clubs, and departmental presentations.
