The PGDM equivalent MBA programme in this college offers a dual specialization. The faculty-student ratio is healthy as we have 12 - 15 teachers for 180 students across 2 years. The faculties are highly qualified industry experts as well as academicians.
The course curriculum has been articulated and revised frequently to meet the industry needs. I chose this course as the PGDM program will be more practical than a regular university MBA program. Highly experienced faculty with industry-based experience. The teaching method is more practical and intended to make socially responsible managers.
I chose HR and Finance as my specialization. SJIM has great and experienced faculty across all the domains. The faculty is very friendly, supportive, encouraging and the teaching style is different Every faculty has a minimum of 3-4 PG degrees and they come with a lot of experience. Some of them are alumni of IIM-B Exams are conducted for every term. SJIM follows the trimester system.
The college follows a trimester system. The courses in the first year are uniform for all the students and the students must undergo the same. The subjects include Organisational behaviour, Corporate Finance, Operations, Marketing Management, HRM, etc. Additionally, all the first-year students are mandatorily required to take up BME ( Business and Management Environment). The BME is carried out to improve the presentation skills, communication skills, and the ability to think and analyze changing business landscape. In the second year, students are required to pick two specializations and the subjects of their choice and make up to a maximum of 53 credits. I had picked up HR and Marketing as my specialization. The courses offered in the second year for HR was taken up by college faculty, external faculty and industry experts.
I have taken PGDM in Finance and Operations. The syllabus for each subject is updated every year according to recent trends. SJIM takes 180 students every year. There are more than 20 professors in various disciplines and more than 10 visiting faculty. Lectures are facilitated through powerpoint presentation with active discussion and industry practices are understood through articles/case study discussions. Most of the questions in exam are application based. By listening to lectures and reading from text book and cases, one can score very well in exams at SJIM.
Though its rigorous course, the college provides ample opportunities to learn and bond with some of the best minds in the world. Faculty on hand are among the best in their fields and ensures that students are industry ready. Curriculum is typically updated on a regular basis as per the industry norms.
PGDM course has a benefit as you can specialize in two domains at the same time. SJIM has a good no. of faculty who are very well qualified and very friendly. Also, each student has a mentor assigned during the course which helps students a lot. The faculty uses live and practical examples to explain the concept which makes learning very easy and fun. SJIM has a trimester, which means it conducts exams after every three months.
Conversations with Alumini and MBA students of other colleges helped me narrow down to a few colleges post which I was able to choose the best. Good qualified faculty including IIM graduates and former faculties at Harvard Business School who are knowledgeable and push you to apply whatever you learn in practical situations through case study analysis and discussions and assignments and live projects.
