DOMS, IIT Madras M.S Research is offered as 2 Years Full Time program. The minimum eligibility criteria for M.S is Graduation + GATE. The total fees for DOMS, IIT Madras M.S Research in 2024 is ₹ 1.02 Lakhs for the complete course duration, which includes total tuition fees of ₹ 20,000. Selection Procedure

After receiving the application for admission to Ph.D. or MS by Research programs offered by DoMS  IIT Madras, the shortlisting of suitable candidate is done on the criteria given below:

• Academic performance
• Performance in the qualifying examination.
• Statement of purpose and research proposal

Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview and Research Aptitude Test. Candidates who are exempted from the same are required to take departmental Examination at IIT Madras. 

Key Points:

• Shortlisted candidates are called by the Institute for A General Research Aptitude Test.
• Candidates must bring the original documents at the time of personal interview for the verification purpose.
• Candidates with B.E/B.Tech degree and seeking direct admission to Ph.D. will be eligible for admission to integrated (M.S.+Ph.D.) program.
• Bachelor’s degree holders are also eligible for admission in some specializations provided they have performed exceptionally in academics with a valid GATE score.

Full-Time Registration 

This is the regular full-time mode where students are expected to work solely on their academic program.

In this Student may be categorized as HTRA (Half-time Teaching/Research Assistant-ship), non-HTRA, QIP (Quality Improvement Program*) candidate, or UGC/CSIR fellow.

External Registration:

 his category consists of students sponsored by an industrial or business organization having R&D facilities and recognized by DST/DSIR of Government of India or IIT Madras.

Part-Time Registration:

This category comprises of students sponsored by reputed university/institution/organization located in Chennai or neighborhood.

Staff Member Registration:

Staff members of IIT Madras are also eligible to apply for research programs of the department

How to Apply for Ph.D/ MS at DOMS, IIT Madras?

DOMS Madras invites online applications for all the courses offered. Follow the given steps to apply:

1. Visit https://research.iitm.ac.in/
2. Fill in the application form by providing correct information.
3. Pay the requisite fee of INR 100 for MS by Research & Ph.D. (INR 50 for SC/ST/ Female/ PD) by Credit/ Debit Card or Net-Banking.
4. Fill the application form and take a printout of duly filled application form.

While filling the application form, candidates are required to fill the following information

1. Semester-wise score (annual score, where semester system is not followed) in the qualifying degree.
2. Valid score on the qualifying examination and the details of the examination.
3. Areas of specialization where the candidate wishes to apply.
4. Statement of purpose (and summary of research proposal for doctoral candidates).

Bring the following attested photocopies of the documents at the time of physical counselling:

• Aadhar Card
• Reserved category certificates
• Transfer and Migration certificate
• CAT/ GMAT Scorecard (whatever applicable)
• One set of photocopies of all the documents
• Provisional certificates
• Marks sheets of X, XII, Graduation, PG and other qualifications
• Graduation and College leaving certificate
• Passport size photographs
• Copy of citizenship from the Indian Embassy of their residing country (in the case of PIOs and NRIs)
