Ans. Yes, irrespective of the branch, choosing IIT Delhi will always prove to be beneficial for you. IIT Delhi has ties with many big firms that visit the campus for placements and offer great packages irrespective of your branch. One needs to be proficient in DSA and other computer science core subjects such as OOPS, OS, DBMS, and Computer Networks. A good grasp of these will fetch you a high-paying job no matter which branch you belong to in IIT Delhi. Although most companies that visit IIT Delhi also visit NIT, your IIT tag will always fetch you extra benefits and no one can deny that. For instance, the same role offered to an IITiand will have more salary than that offered to a non-IITian.You can easily switch roles and fields given the brand name of the institute you are associated with. IITians even have more opportunities for higher studies in Foreign countries than non-IITians. Ans. There are two sides to every coin. Similarly, there are many reasons why one must choose IIT Delhi over IIT Mumbai and vice versa. To make it further understandable, I have listed some common pros and cons of IIT Delhi Pros You are in proximity to the capital city  It’s easy to prepare for some other exams also apart from Engineering like IAS Hauz Khas village in itself is an absolute treat to the eyes Being in Delhi makes it possible to go for road trips to Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lansdown, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Agra, etc. The Delhi Metro makes commuting quiet easy There are many places to explore and hang out with your friends in the vicinity of the campus. Cons CS department of IIT Bombay is way better than IIT Delhi offering a plethora of diverse courses. The campus of IIT Bombay has more natural landscape and greenery in comparison to IIT Delhi. This enhances the climate and overall ambiance inside the campus  Unlike IIT Delhi, the hostel facilities are much better at IIT Bombay while Delhi hostels are overly crowded. Delhi faces extreme climatic conditions whereas the weather of IIT Bombay somehow remains the same throughout the year. Ans. Do you think getting admission to the most coveted branch will also give access to the most coveted housing facilities? Well, you are wrong, inside IIT your rank has no value. You will be treated like any other student with equal amenities at your disposal. At IIT Delhi, every student is allotted a room randomly without any discrimination. First-year students usually get 2-seater or 3-seater rooms depending on the hostel they are assigned to.  The single rooms you were asking for are usually allotted in the last year but some lucky students get a single room from the 3rd year in a new hostel like Girnar or Udaigiri. But regardless, your hostel will become your new home. Irrespective of the kind of rooms you are allotted, you get adapted to them and make splendid memories and new friends.Read more

Ans. Both programs are equally good in their respective fields and so are the institutions offering the programs. It’s important to consider what you expect from the program and what you plan to achieve after graduation to make the right choice. My sister was in a similar dilemma as yours and eventually, she opted for MCA from IIT Delhi.This program has many courses similar to CS but the only problem is, the pedagogy adopted has a more theoretical approach than practical. Moreover, at some point, you will start questioning the parity of the faculty and will have to resort to self-study. But here is the bright side, most companies coming for CS placements consider MCA students too, and offer decent roles. Although I am not well aware of the situation in Roorkee, I can guarantee a true coding lover will prefer CS to MCA any day.Read more

Ans. All three colleges namely, IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU are excellent options for CSE. However, you might want to consider the following points before making the final decision  Campus life: In terms of campus life, the DTU is the best option followed by NSUT and IIIT Delhi. DTU offers a very laid-back cap pledge life experience with a minimal workload and a lot of time to pursue your hobbies. There aren’t many restrictions on attendance also. Curriculum: IIIT Delhi is a clear winner in terms of curriculum as it has no extra subjects in the first year. Students are taught coding languages and related assignments from day one and thus prepare students better than their counterparts. Research : IIIT Delhi is a research-oriented institute and has better research facilities, labs, and resources. DTU and NSUT have a similar research culture.  Infrastructure : IIIT Delhi is a newly established college so has modern infrastructure, although the campus is small. DTU and NSUT have larger campuses and better sports facilities. Fees: IIIT Delhi charges extremely high fees around INR 4.62 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) which is almost double the fees charged by DTU INR 2.19 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) So choose wisely based on your priorities!Read more

The students are given regular assignments and homework to evaluate their understanding of the concepts.  Environment: IIIT Delhi has a very harmonious environment and has no cases of ragging at all. The seniors are always ready to guide the juniors.  Coding: IIIT Delhi has an amazing coding culture with its own contest portal Foobar. Faculty: IIIT Delhi has a highly talented and experienced faculty pool comprising both Indian and foreign teachers. Most professors are Ph.D. holders. Placements: IIIT Delhi has been recording excellent placement statistics over the past few years. This year the institute recorded 96.58% placements with the highest package standing at INR 51.03 LPA and the average package standing at INR 23.72 LPA. Ans. IT from NSIT is the best option among these.  The student crowd is brilliant. It has a small batch size compared to DTU. So, you will face less competition.  NSIT has an amazing pool of faculties . You will get to learn from excellent faculty members like Sangeeta Sabharwal and MPS Bhatia.  NSIT IT placements are better than DTU and IIIT D. DTU has a better placement record for core branches. While NSIT offers better placements opportunities to CS and IT students. In the recent placement drive, the average CTC for IT at NSIT was INR 6 LPA .  Companies like Facebook, Google hire students from NSIT from their US offices. Major consulting and non-tech companies like Bain, BCG, ZS Associates, etc. also visit the campus placements.  IIIT Delhi has an excellent research culture and professors from top universities like Carnegie Mellon. So, if you are interested in research, you should choose IIIT D. Overall IT from NSIT is the best option in terms of academics and placements. Read more

Ques. Which is better to join DTU/NSIT/IIITD or new IITs or BITS Goa/Hyd Dual for CSE?

Ans. I won’t recommend you choose a dual program from BITS. For CSE, I would highly recommend IIIT Delhi. It has great research opportunities. It does not have the same branch value as NSUT Delhi/ DTU, but its growth rate is high. It will soon become a brand like IIIT Hyderabad. Compared to the new IITs, IIITD has a locational advantage because it is situated in the national capital.  BITS dual is a decent choice, but only if you get a CS. It depends on your performance in the first year. The odds of getting a CS are less than 20% which is pretty low, and the cutoffs keep getting higher each year. As far as the ‘BITS’ tag is concerned, it's really not that important in reality. For the new IITs, go only if you are getting a CS over there. Do not rely on branch change. Also, avoid going to those located in small/ secluded towns because then you won’t get a lot of exposure. Also, do consider the faculty and infrastructure if you plan to go to a new IIT. My order of preference for CSE is IIITD > NSUT Delhi/DTU > BITS Goa/Hyderabad > IIT. Thus, for a CSE, I would suggest you to choose either IIITD or NSUT Delhi/DTU.Read more
