One of the best university campus life as ranked by several renowned rating websites. Very research oriented and has several active Nobel prize winners in different departments. Austin is one of the best cities to live in the US.

Dislikes

Very limited intake because of which the Alumni network for some programs might be lower. Alumni network is very significant when it comes to internships and job search.

Placement

Students have to find the jobs themselves through networking, LinkedIn, internships. But they are recognized by the recruiters because of the reputation of the institution in the industry for all programs.
Salary is as per the current market conditions. Very rare that students are not able to find full time opportunities after they graduate but the again depends on the candidate and their strategy to find jobs. The key is to start applying early.

Whatsapp groups and seniors are the best way to find your housing, rent is around $600-$1000 per month depending on sharing or renting a bedroom for yourself.

Life at UT Austin !

Likes

UT has a broad range of courses and curriculums, and hence diverse students and perspectives.
UT has massive repute in Texas, and generally in US, especially for STEM majors.
There are a lot of (regional festivities/general party) events that happen typically around the university.

Dislikes

Sometimes it feels as though you're very miniscule compared to the university (smaller batch strength universities make you feel more belonged)
The connect isn't strong between Graduate and Undergraduate students typically but that is probably a large university issue.
Austin is fairly expensive in terms of stay.

Placement

Current circumstances are extreme although usually >80% land jobs within 6 months of completing the course or end up converting it into PhDs.
I'm not sure of salary ranges - maybe $80K on average.
There's no helpful campus recruitment efforts for international students - there are career fairs where companies show up but they don't entertain students needing 'visa sponsorships' usually. Online job portals or non-linear individual networking efforts are what get you a job.
Most effective way is to first get a summer internship, then convert that to a job.

I think I'd joined a Whatsapp group from a Telegram group. Then I met some folks, and we decided apartments online before moving. 2B1B apartment: $1650 per month + utilities (total ~$1800 for the entire apartment per month).
Facilities included: Centralized AC/Heater system and dishwasher (these 2 are standard in every US apt), Gas stove, paid laundry washer/dryer in each floor, paid parking

I'm very happy with the overall experience at UT.

Placement

Everyone was placed.
Depends on location but usually upwards of $100-150k per annum
Mostly career fairs , networking, internships and job portals. There is only a career fair from the university and no concept of placement (as in most US universities).

I had friends. Monthly rent will be around $1000. The apartment will be unfurnished. But you'll have a kitchen, bathrooms and bedroom.

It is an ethnically and culturally diverse campus
It has very vibrant student life, with lots of student organizations and events
The professors and programs are great, especially in engineering

Dislikes

Speedway, the main walking street on campus, gets super packed between classes
There are limited public transport, and they often feel unsafe because of homeless people riding them
Housing and food can around campus are expensive

I cannot speak for the average, but I was offered close to $100k/year after my Masters
Campus recruitment is the primary means only for some or the big companies (e.g., TI, Apple). Most other companies do majority of their hiring through online applications, or though networking via LinkedIn or other opportunities
Magnificent Seven companies (NVIDIA, Google, Apple, Tesla, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta)

I found my off-campus accommodation by searching through websites like Zillow and Facebook groups, as well as recommendations from senior
The rent is around $1500 per month, for a single-room apartment, and has access to a laundry machine in-unit
The main challenge was finding a place within my budget, but having nice amenities
Recommendations: Start looking early, join University housing groups on Facebook, and try to find roommates to live in a budget-friendly shared apartment
My accommodation is about 30 minutes from campus by bus. Most Indian students tend to live closer to campus, in nearby neighborhoods like Hyde Park or Hancock

The focus on technical aspects as compared to what I had in India
The classmates that I have also come from top colleges(both in the US and India)
The Alumni Network is so strong, you just need to put in one message to get a referral to the company they are working for

Dislikes

The fees of the college are higher when compared to colleges like the University of Buffalo for the same program(Masters in Business Analytics)
You cannot buy insurance from a private company which ends up costing 3 times more for insurance then the colleges that allow for private company insurance
The subjects that you want are always on a first come first serve basis and also the registration pops up without any specific notice, which catches you off-guard, and sometimes you miss a subject of your liking

Placement

All students secure roles after 6 months of graduation and it has been seen for all the years that my program has been active
For my program the average salary ranges from $80000 to $120000
People find jobs using their network on linkedin and Alumni network referrals, RecruitMcCombs is also one job board updated by the Career Management team through which students find job
International students in my batch haven't received jobs yet as the market for us opens right now (month of march) and it takes 2-3 months for a conversion from interview to job offer but the local students have secured jobs as entry-level grads in major tech companies like Deloitte, EY, CGI, McKinsey, BCG, and Bain which do not sponsor Visa
Dell, Deloitte, EY, CGI, McKinsey, Capital One, Google, Meta, Amazon, Expedia, Home Depot, etc

I contacted my seniors of the program on linkedin and got referred to my current apartment
My monthly rent is $825 dollars and after utilities and internet it goes to $1000 monthly
I was confused with rent of apartments as the ones far away costed $650-$700 rent but I choose the one I am living right now because it is close by to college and saves a lot of time in commute
I would say contact your program seniors as they have lived there for atleast a year and they can help you the best
My place is 10 mins walking from my school and most of the Indian students stay near by to campus as they are the safest places which are also guarded by UTPD Cars 24/7

Freedom to choose our courses irrespective of the stream that I am in.

Dislikes

Frequent thefts in and around campus.
Frequent protests given its a Public University.
Printing costs are high, for some streams its completely free.

Placement

Mostly 90% of the graduating batch secures employment within 6 months of completing their course.
The average salary is between $100K to $110K USD per year. Students usually find jobs in career fair conducted by UT, they can also find jobs via linkedin and indeed.
My seniors had a hard time in getting jobs but my super seniors had got their jobs easily. Some of them were placed into Microsoft, Walmart and Amazon.
Their job roles are Data Scientist, Supply chain analyst, Business analyst, Operations engineer etc. Some of the major companies that hire students from my batch are Amazon, Walmart, HEB, Lucid motors etc.

I found my accommodation from a friend whom I met him in a Whatsapp group. Some of my friends found their accommodation through Facebook groups and seniors.
Monthly rent is $580 that includes free wifi, pool, gym, bbq and paid laundry. Based on my challenges I would recommend future students to get connected with seniors via linkedin and join as many whatsapp groups as possible to find a better accommodation.
Most of the Indian students stay very close to campus (Duval villas, Tanglewood, Lantana etc) and my accommodation (Duval villas) is 1.5 mile far from campus.

McCombs attracts some of the brightest minds as my course mates
The course curriculum is well structured and super busy allowing us to complete two years of content in 1 year
Most of the professors are directly in touch with industry and also have past industry experience

Dislikes

Course duration is super tight
There could be more involvement with industry through live projects
More structure could be brought with the curriculum

Placement

Only 75% of the batch got employed within 6 month for us. May be it was due to slow market conditions
average salary could be around $120000 but it heavily depends on your experience. Students need to do all the heavy lifting here, there is no campus recruitment and college placement team helps little. There are job fairs that are organized which can help get job.
MSBA saw various recruiter but no mass recruiter. Capital One, Tredence, Fedility Investment, Whole Foods

I found my accommodation through seniors. But one can also refer to apps like realtor, zillio. These app work better.
My accommodation was of subpar standard and involved significant security threat. Rent was $2100 for 3 bed room unit ($700 each) plus the utilities. It is a basic housing with air conditioning fridge and dishwasher.
US has massive pest infestation. Please use certified apps to find any property and check reviews first. Do not trust the realtor or anyone blindly since they get referral bonus for each successful referral.
My accommodation was 15 min walking from McCombs. Indian students stay based on their college. McCombs students stay scattered in an around the McCombs building
