What Students Say
Likes
- I'm very happy with the overall experience at UT.
Course Curriculum
- Courses are very good and are sufficient to get a job in the industry.
- Most academic/course projects are challenging enough to make them industry relevant.
- Usually you have about 9 hours of a class a week. Timings vary by class. Most of your day will be spent doing homework, assignments and projects for the course.
- Average number for grad classes Maybe 20-30. For undergrad classes, it is close to 100.
Tips to enhance your application
- Statement of purpose, LOR, CV, TOEFL, GRE.
Admission Experience
- Return on investment, coursework, location.
- The ece program is one of the best; there are lots of TAships that help with funding, the location is very good , and a lot of hw companies are situated here.
- These are the main reasons why I chose this university
Faculty
- Faculty is well approachable and experts in the subject matter.
- I really like Prof. Yeraballi, who taught us OS; Prof. McDermott, who taught embedded systems; and dam sunwoo who taught computer architecture.
Campus Life
- It's hard to be involved in a lot of extracurriculars at the grad school level since students are generally busy with getting TAships, internships , etc. but for people who are interested, they have really good sport facilities with almost every sport that you can think of.
- They have a 24/7 library for you to study if needed.
- There are some events organized by the Indian association for major festivals.
- If people are interested in research, there are sufficient professors as well as funding for doing so.
Part Time Jobs
- $25-$35 an hour. Usually people apply online or mail profs for TA ships. Max works 20 hours a week. It is competitive, but most people get some TAship by the 2nd sem. Almost everyone in the batch will get 10 or 20 hours of TA ships. Also, 20-hour TA ships give full tuition waivers. 10-hour TA ships will waive almost half the amount.
Placement
- Everyone was placed.
- Depends on location but usually upwards of $100-150k per annum
- Mostly career fairs , networking, internships and job portals. There is only a career fair from the university and no concept of placement (as in most US universities).
Accommodation
- I had friends. Monthly rent will be around $1000. The apartment will be unfurnished. But you'll have a kitchen, bathrooms and bedroom.
Exams
- GRE (163/120), TOEFL (114/120). I believe the GRE isn't compulsory anymore.
Fees
- $60,000 is the annual fee.
