Course Curriculum

10

  • The difficulty level of the program is very high if you are looking to get 4.0 GPA and the program is more practical than theoretical and you get to solve business problems while working in a class project
  • The program is tech heavy which makes for its positive aspect and one negative aspect would be that if you don't have a background in tech you will have a lot of difficulties running in the program pace
  • I have on average 3 classes per day and they start from morning 10 am to evening 7 pm with a lot of break-time to study in between; typically the classes are 2 hour long
  • The average number of students in my class are 60
  • There are 30-40 Indian (International) Students in my program

Admission Experience

  • I applied to 5 colleges for the Masters in Business analytics program
    1) University of Texas at Austin
    2) Carnegie Mellon University
    3) University of California San Diego
    4) University of California Davis
    5) University of Washington

  • I got an admit letter from all these universities; The reason I think I got into all colleges I applied was I had work experience in business analytics and gave all the necessary and unnecessary competitive exams so that my profile stood out
  • I selected University of Texas at Austin as the Masters in Business Analytics program here is more tech oriented when compared to all the universities I got into and the program was started a dozen years ago which when compared to colleges like CMU which started their MSBA program 2 years ago gives an edge to UT Austin. Also the program fee when compared to other colleges I got into is at least 30-40 percent discounted here
  • Summer intake as it the most common intake for Masters in Business Analytics program
  • I applied in the month of October 2023, got my acceptance in December 2023 and filled-in the $2000 registration fees which got paid towards my summer semester fees and I applied for Visa in the month of May and got my visa approved on 31st May 2024 and traveled to US on 27th June 2024 where my college started from 2nd July 2024

Faculty

10

  • We have 25 faculties for 130 students in our course, this ratio helps when you interact with the faculty they take time to explain your doubts in detail and also held office hours for more questions
  • The teaching approach is more technical and is complaint to the industry which makes it almost sufficient to prepare for a job
  • Faculty helps by sharing their network in companies and also refers to a job if they are extremely proud of your progress
  • Dr Anitesh Barua is the best faculty in the program as he teaches his own research in unstructured data analytics in class and at the end of the semesters host a Diwali party at his own place

Campus Life

10

  • 1) UT Austin is spread across 40 Acres of Land has around 20 schools in the campus situated one after other, the College I go to is McCombs school of business and there is Robert Rowling hall for MBA students and Perry-Castaneda Library and many more schools
    2) Library, UHS(University Health Services Building), Gregory Gym(which has almost all sports inside of it)
    3) All festivals including Indian festivals are celebrated on campus namely Diwali, Holi, Christmas etc
    4) Sports like football, swimming, golf, rock climbing, volley ball, squash, badminton and many more sports are available for free using your UT ID card at Gregory Gym and the Recreational Center located on-campus,
  • There are many student organization who host events like diwali celebration and holi celebration and there tech related organizations as well who organize hackathons and case competitions

Part Time Jobs

  • 1) For the masters in business analytics program I am in doesn't allow for TA or RA but you can work part time like me as a Graduate student assistant; however, for 2 year programs TA and RA are secured by almost everyone in the batch as there are very less student or mostly international student who apply and many of them secure 2 TA positions as well
    2) it ranges from $1500-$2000 for a TA and RA and also the tuition fee becomes zero
    3) Maximum allowed hours are 20 hours
    4) To secure an on-campus job is very easy as there are lots of schools and facilities that look for student assistance and in my experience I got my part-time after searching for 10-15 days
  • Indian students outside my program work as a TA's and RA's and in my program they work for the dining facilities
  • Securing on-campus part-time is very easy in UT Austin because only international students apply for part time roles and hence there is more demand then supply
  • Typically for part-time you have to login using your UT email on Handshake and search for part-time roles on campus by using filters and apply for the roles, there are interviews that are conducted based on the role you applied for ranging from 1 or max 2 rounds of interviews

Placement

10

  • All students secure roles after 6 months of graduation and it has been seen for all the years that my program has been active
  • For my program the average salary ranges from $80000 to $120000
  • People find jobs using their network on linkedin and Alumni network referrals, RecruitMcCombs is also one job board updated by the Career Management team through which students find job
  • International students in my batch haven't received jobs yet as the market for us opens right now (month of march) and it takes 2-3 months for a conversion from interview to job offer but the local students have secured jobs as entry-level grads in major tech companies like Deloitte, EY, CGI, McKinsey, BCG, and Bain which do not sponsor Visa
  • Dell, Deloitte, EY, CGI, McKinsey, Capital One, Google, Meta, Amazon, Expedia, Home Depot, etc

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I contacted my seniors of the program on linkedin and got referred to my current apartment
  • My monthly rent is $825 dollars and after utilities and internet it goes to $1000 monthly
  • I was confused with rent of apartments as the ones far away costed $650-$700 rent but I choose the one I am living right now because it is close by to college and saves a lot of time in commute
  • I would say contact your program seniors as they have lived there for atleast a year and they can help you the best
  • My place is 10 mins walking from my school and most of the Indian students stay near by to campus as they are the safest places which are also guarded by UTPD Cars 24/7

Exams

  • Only required exam is IELTS
  • One Statement of Purpose, 2 Letter of Recommendations and your Resume
  • For me I had a video Interview which was a behavioral round where I was asked questions like

Fees

  • I had 3 semester for my Masters in Business analytics course(Summer, Fall and Spring). For the Summer Semester I had to pay $8000 for fees and $1200 for insurance and ISSS (Out of this I had to pay $2000 at the time of admission confirmation which got deposited to the Summer Semester Fees). For the Fall Semester I had to pay $21500 as fees and $1500 for insurance and ISSS fees. For the Spring Semester also I had to pay $21500 as fees and $1500 for insurance and ISSS fees
  • The fees is charged semester-wise for my prograM
  • 1200$ should be a good estimate of the monthly expenses $900-$1000 on rent, $200 in groceries (You get good places nearby campus which are at walking distance to college and if at all you stay far away from college you get free bus travel using your UT Id card)

Scholarship

  • I received scholarship from my school which gets applied to everyone who applies and the amount is based on your profile with which you applied
  • I received $4000 scholarship from my school
  • Yes, almost everyone in my class has received a scholarship
  • Every student registered for the program automatically is eligible for scholarship and the average amount goes from $2000-$4000 with few exceptional cases receiving $7000-$10000
