Admission Experience
-
I applied to six colleges which are Georgia Tech, UT Austin, UW Madison, Texas A&M, SUNY Buffalo, and Northeastern University. I was admitted to all except Georgia Tech, where I was rejected. My GPA is low and I heard from peers that Georgia Tech accepts applicants with GPA more that 9. One more reason might be I have less work experience and that might have effected my admission.
-
One thing that influenced me to choose UT Austin is its reputation. It is much better than the other colleges that I accepted into. And one more reason is its Tuition fee is bearable and UT waives entire tuition fee if one is able to secure a TA position.
-
The admission process is simple you need to submit SOP, 3 LORs, Resume and an application form and need to pay application fee. Once you have submitted your application you need to wait for their decision.
-
For few streams GRE is optional and for some its mandatory with a cutoff of (315). For MBA one has to take GMAT. For english proficiency you can either take IELTS(min 7.5) or TOEFL(min 90).
Overall admission process is hectic, their application website is pretty old and hard to navigate.

- Yes the teaching approach is sufficient to prepare me for securing a job in my field. Their teaching mainly involves study material, case studies and applied projects.
- Yes teachers has contacts with MNCs and they do help students in making some good connections with recruiters.

Accommodation
- I found my accommodation from a friend whom I met him in a Whatsapp group. Some of my friends found their accommodation through Facebook groups and seniors.
- Monthly rent is $580 that includes free wifi, pool, gym, bbq and paid laundry. Based on my challenges I would recommend future students to get connected with seniors via linkedin and join as many whatsapp groups as possible to find a better accommodation.
- Most of the Indian students stay very close to campus (Duval villas, Tanglewood, Lantana etc) and my accommodation (Duval villas) is 1.5 mile far from campus.
