Arizona State University vs University of Arizona: Fee Comparison 2026-27

Indian students frequently compare Arizona State University and the University of Arizona because both are public research universities in Arizona with strong STEM and business programs. Below is a structured tuition comparison across MS, MBA, and Undergraduate programs.

MS Program Fee Comparison

University Annual MS Tuition (USD) Annual MS Tuition (INR)
Arizona State University (ASU) $30,348 ₹27.60 lakhs
University of Arizona (UArizona) $23,400 ₹21.28 lakhs

Difference: UArizona is cheaper by ~$6,948 (₹6.32 lakhs) per year in base tuition.

For Indian students targeting MS in CS at ASU (STEM-OPT eligible):

  • Total annual tuition + mandatory fees: $32,005 (₹29.11 lakhs)
  • Total cost of attendance (including living): $66,646 (₹60.62 lakhs)

While ASU’s MS tuition is higher than UArizona’s, ASU’s scale, industry integration in the Phoenix metro area, and STEM-OPT extension (up to 36 months of work eligibility) may improve ROI potential depending on job outcomes.

MBA Fee Comparison

University Full-Time MBA Evening MBA Executive MBA Online MBA
ASU $119,000 (₹1.08 crores) $67,000 (₹60.94 lakhs) $98,500 (₹89.60 lakhs) $74,000 (₹67.31 lakhs)
University of Arizona $54,584 (₹49.65 lakhs) $54,000 (₹49.12 lakhs) $77,000 (₹70.04 lakhs) $56,250 (₹51.16 lakhs)

Difference (Full-Time MBA): ASU costs ~$64,416 (₹58.59 lakhs) more than UArizona.

  • ASU’s MBA (via W. P. Carey) is priced at a premium tier.
  • UArizona’s Full-Time MBA has significantly lower tuition, making it financially less risky.
  • For Indian students dependent on education loans, UArizona offers lower financial exposure.

However, ASU may justify the premium through:

  • Larger alumni network
  • Stronger corporate pipelines in Phoenix
  • Higher average base starting salary outcomes
    • $121,116 (₹1.10 crores) at ASU (Source: W. P. Carey employment report)
    • $107,345 (₹97.64 lakhs) at UArizona (Source: UArizona, Eller College of Management employment report)

Undergraduate Fee Comparison

University Annual UG Tuition (USD) Annual UG Tuition (INR)
ASU $39,062 ₹35.53 lakhs
University of Arizona $43,100 ₹39.20 lakhs

Difference: ASU is cheaper by ~$4,038 (₹3.6 lakhs) per year. Over 4 years, this becomes a ₹14-15 lakh total tuition difference, excluding living costs.

Arizona State University positions itself as a large-scale, innovation-driven public research university with strong STEM and business offerings. However, when evaluating ASU fees for international students in 2026-27, the financial commitment is substantial. ASU may not be the most cost-effective option in Arizona, but for academically strong and career-focused Indian students, it can deliver solid long-term value.

  • The course syllabus is somewhat relevant, while also, at times, in some places, not very up to date, still using and teaching older tech stacks. The organization of courses is also pretty bad for higher-level classes. Some programs can give you decent exposure.
  • Class timings are very varied and, based on your choices, can be scheduled from 9 am to 5 pm. The average number of students ranges from 60 to even 100 or more sometimes.

Fees

  • $46,000 dollars- yearly: pre-scholarship. Students can get upto 13,500 dollars scholarship yearly, which can bring down costs.

  • The MS CS course at ASU is fairly challenging but manageable, with a good mix of theory and hands-on work. I liked the flexibility in choosing courses and the strong research focus, though some popular classes do get crowded.
  • Usually, I had 1–2 classes a day, mostly between 9 AM and 5 PM. Most classes had around 100–200 students, and there were plenty of Indian students around, which felt nice and familiar.

Fees

  • It cost me around $69000, which included a tuition fee of about $37000 and the rest of it was living expenses. Fees are charged for each credit and we need to pay them each semester.
  • My monthly expenses used to be: rent - $500, food - $250, miscelleanous - $1000 to $2000. The actual monthly expenses would largely depend on the individual's personal choices as well.

  • The course curriculum is of medium difficulty level with a mix of theoretical and practical classes.
  • The positive aspect is the extensive variety of electives and research, and the negative aspect is the workload.
  • There are 1–3 classes per day usually, each for 1–2 hours. The class size is 40–60 students on average. There are plenty of approximately 500 Indian students who are there, forming a majority of the batch.

Fees

  • 60,000 USD as total fee
30,000 USD for the tuition, 12000 for hostel and the others contribute to Insurance and health.
  • In the first 3 semesters they charge around 13000 USD and the last semester it is 7700.
  • Monthly expenses are around 500 which includes the accommodation, food, electricity and other utilities.
  • The transportation is free and there is bus facility.

  • The course differs from what we study in India , here it is more distributed into the whole semester rather than on few exams . Here you will have to work throughout the semester and the weightage of final exams are very less.assignments have equal importance as of exams and there is almost a mandatory project in each subject which has a 30-40% of marks of your whole subject.
  • Only negative points can be that the way of answers they expect in the exam may differ a bit from our experience in India , here a strict structure is followed in my opinion .
  • Students have 6 classes of 1.25 hours each week .2 classes typically per day . for 3-4 days
  • There are approx 100-120 students in each class. In my courses of CSE there are approx 100-120 students out of which most are Asians and majorly Indians .

Fees

  • Fee breakdown : 17k+17k+17k+7k dollars approx for my 4 semester degree (2 years).
  • I live off campus so no hostel fee .
  • You have to submit fee each semester.it is based on credits you take each semester.
  • If you decide to live off campus then 600 dollars is the approx rent per month and another 200 for you grocery etc.most of the apartments are nearby so there is no transport cost.there are some free buses that go across campuses and nearby areas.

  • There are only a few courses which are difficult but they are very practical and you get to learn a lot from these courses. are very difficult to get into though.
  • Classes - usually 2 classes for each course and mostly 3-5 classes per week, usually from 8 am to 4pm. Each class is 1:15 hours. The average number of students in our class is around 140. Indian students in MSCS is 90% but 20% if you get into a business course.
  • Positive: Very practical and deep dive into topics and professors are very experienced (Course: SML, AI, DPS)
  • Negative: Hard courses take all your time in projects and assignments making it hard to do anything else (job applications or social).
