Campus Life

  • There were a ton of clubs. So many activities to do. Scrabble club, salsa club, and Indian students association. Each race had something they could relate to.
  • Safe and inclusive campus for all. A lot of libraries. Reading spaces. Food areas. Pickleball. Swimming. Sports center with gym, state-of-the-art facilities. Nothing was there in UF, in my opinion. They had a fencing club. Access to health clinics, mental health. They had it all fr.

  • I used to live off campus. Buses were free all throughout Gainesville for UF students with our GATOR ID(student ID). College was a 10-15 minute ride. Buses came every half an hour or less. Ample availability. Shopping and food complexes are within walking distance, and nothing felt too far or inconvenient.
  • Rent was 550 per month. Fully furnished apartment, my own room with an attached washroom. The apartment name is the BLVD apartments. 1400 sq ft apartment, me and three other friends . 4 bedroom, hall, and kitchen. Hot water, WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher, all included. Clubhouse, gym, and many other amenities, too like pool. The Indian Students Association helped me find that place. And they even provided airport pickups and picked us up when we first landed.

  • College has many campuses, with the main and larger part being in Gainesville, Florida. There are 6-7 libraries that can be used. Some are crowded and others are peaceful. They have separate floors for group and silent studies. There are two recreation centers that offer a variety of facilities, including gyms, pools, and badminton and basketball courts.

  • Google Maps and WhatsApp groups are the main places I used to find accommodation. We faced issues contacting leasing management of apartments in the US from India, but other than that we didn't face any other problems. Choose places where Indians stay, as they offer a lower amount compared to on-campus accommodations.

  • Although I am not involved with any clubs on the campus, the campus itself has lots of clubs to choose from. The campus has recreational sports, gyms, swimming pools and lots of games to choose from. The International Student Organization also organises major events for Diwali and Holi.

  • The majority of international and postgraduate students stay off campus as it is cheaper compared to on-campus. The challenge is to find a good roommate. Other than that, there is no challenge, as getting accommodation here is very easy, and there are lots of options to choose from. The recommendation is to choose from accommodation which has many Indian students living nearby.

There are some great resources on campus like libraries, gym, eating places, food courts and sports events. However, the food science department itself doesn’t have much students resources, graduate student office or work computers, and break room. Gainesville is affordable compared to other cities in Florida. There are on campus and off campus housing. Also, shared dorms for undergrads.

The University of Florida is a good example of an educational hub. It has a nice weather and a good city atmosphere.

There are many clubs to join, like SE club, chess clubs, Computer networking club, ACM club, mainly all are from discord, so you need to check your discord feature where it advertises clubs around you based on the location. There is access to research websites especially for CS students, you can approach the faculty to know how to access them using your college credentials. Its pretty much straight forward, you just need to be on college VPN and go to ACM or any other research paper based website where you need the papers. They have vast libraries and they have a special floor for graduate students as well. You can even book conference rooms and there are plenty of it. Keep an eye out during exam time, they fill up really quickly. Its good for group studies. They have 2 sports complexes, one is pretty large with Lawn tennis, Basketball, Squash, Volleyball etc. All apartments will happen to have a swimming pool of their own and college also does have it. WIFI is as fast as it can get, free to access for anyone.

You can either stay off campus (Niche, Stoneridge are some apartments) or on campus. Off campus you can get unfurnished from 250$ per half room to 600$ furnished single room. On campus rates are almost double starting around 1050$ per room.

Campus life is great. There are a lot of stuff to participate in at UF apart from academics section like dance classes, sports activities, cultural events, on campus part time jobs, etc.

I will be staying in an off-campus apartment for mainly two reasons. Number one is the extremely high cost of on-campus housing. Number two is that a maximum number of graduate students, especially Indian students, reside in a particular area of the town. Thus, off-campus housing would be a more suitable and economic option for me.

I was quite sure about the features I wanted in the program I wanted to apply for. The University of Florida piqued my interest because it had excellent research work being conducted in the field I was most interested in. It is of course a prestigious university while still being economic. It has very good connections with NASA as well which provides exceptional work and internship opportunities to students.

Most people live off campus. The average cost of living is around 600 if you want to live with all comforts.

Low tuition among universities with the same level of research and high reputation. I wanted to get into this university for more exposure and better facilities.
