Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- The University of Florida has lower tuition fees comparatively with the same quality in the knowledge provided. It is also located in a peaceful town and offers a lot of on-campus part-time jobs, which helps our living expenses.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- The main reason might be my scores in my bachelor’s degree, which is not above par and I also didn't have any research papers during my bachelor’s. Also, the GRE score I got is average and I could have score better.

Tips to enhance your application
- Prepare well for the GRE and TOEFL and secure good scores. Securing full marks in aptitude is a plus for some universities. Have a solid resume and SOP. Get nicely drafted LORs from professors and colleagues if applicable.
Admission Experience
- The University of Florida is located in the nice and small town of Gainesville in Florida state, with a low crime rate and most of the town is occupied by the university. It is also a top-ranked college with a wide variety of activities. We get to play sports and use libraries free of cost and also we can borrow books and iPads from libraries.
Class Schedule
- We usually have 5-6 classes per week and it depends on the number of credits you register for. We need to complete at least 30 credits in total to graduate from the university. This might be different for other departments.
- Classes will be in between 9 and 5 and you get a lot of time for completing assignments and projects.
Faculty
- Faculty approachability is good with separate tuition hours after classes. There are also tuition hours for TAs separately in case you have any doubts regarding subjects or exam evaluations. Many of our friends also secured assistantships under professors in different departments. In my opinion, this is one of greatest benefits at University of Florida
Campus Life
- College has many campuses, with the main and larger part being in Gainesville, Florida. There are 6-7 libraries that can be used. Some are crowded and others are peaceful. They have separate floors for group and silent studies. There are two recreation centers that offer a variety of facilities, including gyms, pools, and badminton and basketball courts.
Part Time Jobs
- Most of the students prefer to work part-time to support their living expenses. Dining part-time and desk jobs pay around 13 per hour, whereas assistantships pay around 20 per hour, which is great in my opinion. I was able to work as a graduate assistant for most of my period at the university, which helped me a lot with my living expenses.
- There are many on-campus part-time jobs available, both in dining and assistantships. We get assistantships from professors in all departments and not just computer science. Assistantships pay a great average of 20 per hour, but there are no tuition fee waivers unless you secure a research assistantship.
Placement
- Most of the people secured jobs within 6 months of graduation. I would say 90% of people secured jobs within 6 months of graduation.
- The average salary would be around 120k-130k per year for computer science students. Some students were able secure mid level roles with their experience in India which pays even higher, upto 200k.
Accommodation
- Google Maps and WhatsApp groups are the main places I used to find accommodation. We faced issues contacting leasing management of apartments in the US from India, but other than that we didn't face any other problems. Choose places where Indians stay, as they offer a lower amount compared to on-campus accommodations.
