Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- Out of all the universities in which I got accepted, I compared them based on the rankings of academic courses and the research happening here, and the University of Florida was better compared to others. Moreover, the professor here is very good, and a good amount of research is happening here.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- I think that these are heavily research-oriented university that requires very high GPAs. I had a moderate GPA and didn't have much background in academics; I didn't have prior research experience or any academic project or paper published.

Tips to enhance your application
- Very much effort must go towards your SOP and the stronger the SOP the more chance you have for admission. The CGPA should be high since you pursuing academics they put much attention to prior academic involvement.
Admission Experience
- I wanted to pursue a career in computer science, and the United States is no no-brainer when it comes to tech. The university is also world-renowned and has a good academic ranking, which influenced my decision to study here.
- Although the location is not good (Gainesville with very limited industry opportunities in tech), the university and professors are very good. The campus life here is also very nice with lots of clubs students can choose from.
Class Schedule
- I have three courses per semester, and each course has three classes per week, making it a total of 9 classes per week. The timings depend on which course you have taken. The class strength for some highly popular courses could go up to 300 students, and the majority of them are Indian. But class is only a small portion of your total commitment, and most of the time, it will go towards your assignment.
Faculty
- The faculty here are very knowledgeable and are involved in some good research and there are lots of opportunities for students who are very very sincere towards academics. The faculties may also sometimes help get a full-time job by connecting you with their networks. There are many good faculties here and they are very helpful especially if you approach them.
Campus Life
- Although I am not involved with any clubs on the campus, the campus itself has lots of clubs to choose from. The campus has recreational sports, gyms, swimming pools and lots of games to choose from. The International Student Organization also organises major events for Diwali and Holi.
Part Time Jobs
- Most students try to get a TA or RA or student Assistant but since not all students can get it, students try to get jobs at UF Dining Hall or Reitz Union which has Starbucks or Subway and employs lots of students. After 1 year students can also work off campus and some students also work at stores like Indian Bazaar and Desi Bazaaar.
- There are lots of part-time jobs but the competition is also very high but if the students are serious enough they will get the job. There are TA/RA and student assistants to choose from. Other on-campus jobs include Dining/Barista etc. The wage varies from 13$/hr to 20$/hr. The maximum hour allowed is 20 per week.
Placement
- Securing a full-time job currently is very very difficult due to the current job market situation and many students are unable to secure jobs for at least a couple of months after graduation. However, I have seen people getting jobs if they are consistent enough. The advice is to secure internships which makes it easier to secure a full-time job.
Accommodation
- The majority of international and postgraduate students stay off campus as it is cheaper compared to on-campus. The challenge is to find a good roommate. Other than that, there is no challenge, as getting accommodation here is very easy, and there are lots of options to choose from. The recommendation is to choose from accommodation which has many Indian students living nearby.
