  • I have majorly used Zillow for searching for my rooms, and there were whatsapp groups which you can find in discord or whatsapp which would be specific for the location of the college and chicago in general.
  • The monthly rent for my room is 650. I have a private room and it's not that big, you get the basic facilities like a washing machine, stove, centralised heater and air conditioner, and it would be different for different houses.
  • The major challenge was communicating with the landlords here since you have an indian number and it is difficult to communicate prior to coming here, that is 1 major challenge, but most landlords would be available in whatsapp and since the timings are different, calling them would mostly be in the night.
  • I would say select good roommates; do not always go for a cheap room rent price by including a lot of people in the room; this will ultimately hinder the meaning of your masters. unless definitely necessary, I would suggest not having more than 4 persons in a room.
  • I have intentionally taken my accommodation very close to my college; it is almost a 10 min walk, which is one of the reasons why the room rent is a bit on the higher side. and the choice I made to do this is, since chicago is very cold in winters and when you miss the bus, you should have the ability to go to the classrooms, and the indian students typically stay near the campus and not so far.

  • I have found my accommodation through the WhatsApp accommodation group but it can be found using aptartment.com and Zillow in general. The roommates were found through a yocket and an excel sheet of incoming students.
  • 480 USD; only water is included. Application fee, overpriced options
  • Join accommodation groups and, if possible, have a tour before joining and discuss with your roommates everything beforehand to avoid conflicts
  • My accommodation is around 1 mile from CLG, walkable distance. Most Indians live off-campus, housing in a radius of 1 mile and very near campus. Mostly in the zipcode 60607. Wouldn't suggest crossing that zipcode.

  • I am living off campus with my 3 flatmates. I used a company called University Rental. These guys are pretty good and have been helping students live off campus for a long time so if you are a student who plans to live off campus, this is a pretty good option.
  • They have a lot of houses to choose from, varying in size and price. The range is mostly around 600-800 dollars per month, depending on how close to the campus you take the flat. The process was pretty smooth; they are really helpful; they have their own app to pay the rent and if you need any help, their office is also pretty close by; they can drop in anytime and help you.

The experience at UIC was great. The course structure and prof and especially part time job opportunities are good. Chicago is a place where commute is easier in the city and UIC is also close to downtown. Facilities like night ride(free rides for UIC students post 11pm, 24*7 library during exam times, Early morning gym timings) are very useful for international students.

I chose this program because it is one of the most highly ranked programs in the field of health economics and outcomes research. The faculty members are widely recognized both nationally and internationally. Also, previous students from my undergrad college had attended this program and shared their positive experiences and highly recommended joining it.

My fascination with science propelled me to choose Biotechnology for my under graduation. I decided to further study this course in detail by majoring in the medicinal side of biotechnology. I then started hunting for MS in Medical Biotechnology which was offered only by a few universities in the United States and the University of Illinois at Chicago was one among them.

I chose university of Illinois at Chicago because it was fairly close to home (I commuted about 3 hours a day every day) and the education was fairly affordable compared to the other colleges close to home.
