Gurugram University B.Pharma Lateral FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Pharma regular and B.Pharma Lateral Entry at Gurugram University? Which is better for a D.Pharm holder?
Ans. The regular B.Pharma is a 4-year programme requiring 10+2 (PCM/PCB) qualification and admission via HSTES OCET for regular students. The B.Pharma Lateral Entry is a 3-year programme exclusively for D.Pharm holders, allowing direct entry into the 2nd year. For a D.Pharm holder, the lateral entry route is clearly better as it saves one year, costs less in total (Rs. 2,03,000 vs Rs. 2,82,380 for regular B.Pharma), and leads to the same B.Pharma degree. The lateral entry also allows you to leverage your D.Pharm practical knowledge in advanced subjects.
Ques. Is the HSTES OCET mandatory for B.Pharma Lateral Entry at Gurugram University, or can I get admission based on D.Pharm marks alone?
Ans. The HSTES OCET is mandatory for B.Pharma Lateral Entry in Haryana, including at Gurugram University. As per a High Court directive (CWP no. 177767 of 2019), all admissions to B.Pharma and B.Pharma Lateral Entry in Haryana must be based on the inter-se rank of the HSTES OCET. You cannot get admission based solely on D.Pharm marks. However, if seats remain vacant after HSTES rounds, Gurugram University conducts institute-level open counselling where admission may be offered based on HSTES rank or D.Pharm merit.
Ques. With only 6 seats available, how competitive is B.Pharma Lateral Entry at Gurugram University?
Ans. The 2026 HSTES cutoff data shows that seats were available across all categories: General cutoff was rank 29, BC-A was 52, BC-B was 31, SC was 142, and AI (All India) was 3. The low cutoff ranks suggest that the programme is not extremely competitive and that seats were available even in later rounds. In fact, the university conducted 3 open counselling rounds in 2026-27, indicating that all 6 seats were not filled through HSTES alone. This means D.Pharm holders with a reasonable OCET rank have a good chance of securing admission.
Ques. After completing B.Pharma Lateral Entry from Gurugram University, can I register as a pharmacist?
Ans. Yes. A B.Pharma degree from Gurugram University (a PCI-approved institution) makes you eligible to register as a pharmacist with the Haryana State Pharmacy Council or any State Pharmacy Council in India. This allows you to work as a registered pharmacist in retail pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, and clinical settings. You are also eligible to appear for government pharmacist recruitment exams conducted by HSSC (Haryana Staff Selection Commission) and other state/central bodies.
Ques. Can I pursue M.Pharma after completing B.Pharma Lateral Entry from Gurugram University?
Ans. Yes. After completing B.Pharma (Lateral Entry) from Gurugram University, you are eligible to apply for M.Pharma programmes. Gurugram University itself offers M.Pharma in Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry with an intake of 9 seats each, requiring a minimum of 55% in B.Pharma and a valid GPAT score. You can also apply to M.Pharma programmes at other universities across India. The B.Pharma Lateral Entry degree is equivalent to a regular B.Pharma for all purposes of higher education and employment.
Ques. What career options are available after B.Pharma Lateral Entry from Gurugram University?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers in pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, hospital and clinical pharmacy, retail pharmacy, drug regulatory affairs, quality control and assurance, and medical sales. The Gurgaon-NCR region has a significant presence of pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and healthcare organisations, providing good local employment opportunities.
