My brother had offers from IITs to choose any branch except CSE and chose Electrical Engineering in IIT KGP. To date, he does not regret his decision. There are ups and downs in every Institute; it just takes time to adapt yourself to such situations. It is true that some professors overdo it and push you to the extreme, but if you look at this in a positive manner, it’s their pushing that eventually helps you succeed. There are many seniors who might make fun of your tiny efforts in the labs but trust me, today when they will look back, they will surely be regretting the time they wasted watching movies or series. My brother told me that Electrical Engineering gave him so many friends and experiences that make him yearn for college life today. The labs are old-fashioned and lack much activity in contrast to a SigNet lab/ Power Systems lab. Curriculum: The primary aim of the course curriculum offered in Electrical Engineering at IIT KGP is to impart to students tools and skills that will make it possible for them to excel in departments such as Electronics, Communication, Computers, Aerospace, and Energy. Job prospects: An important point to note is that Electrical Engineering does not prepare you for a job but for higher education in the respective areas. Many people from the department pursue M.S. in Aerospace and Material Sciences. Faculty: While many may not agree, the faculty is excellent except for a few. The cream faculty include Prof. D Das, Prof TKB, Prof S Patra, and Prof S Chattopadhyay among others. Interacting with them might change your opinion regarding the IIT KGP faculty. Research: The research is obviously not at par with that conducted in CS or EC, but it surely does justice to the department itself. I think it’s high time people clear misconceptions about Electrical Engineering and develop a positive opinion about it. We should stop running after jobs and companies and in turn let companies seek us.

Even though the statistics for Electrical Engineering placements at IIT Bhubaneswar are better, IIT KGP offers a much stronger alumni network and a richer legacy. To add to this, the flexible curriculum of IIT KGP makes sure that its students can easily fit into any sector. After considering all the factors, I would suggest you choose Industrial Systems Engineering at IIT KGP over Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar. The fee structure for students admitted through JEE Advanced varies by category and family income. For General,EWS,OBC-NCL students with family income above 5 lakh rupees per annum, the tution fe is 1 lakh per semester, along with other compulsory charges like registratiom,examination,internet,gymkhana,laboratory, hostel rent, electrucity/water , hall establishment, hostel overheaf,hall budget, and mess charges. In the 1st year, one time fees such as caution deposits, alumni subscription, etc fees are also paid bringing the total first year cost around 3.77 lakh. From the second year onwards, without one time charges the annual cost is about 2.6 lakh. For UR/EWS/OBC_NCL students with income between 1lakh and 5 lakh, the tution fee is reduced to 33.33k per semester. And for income below 1 lakh the tution fee is zero. Merit cum scholorships are availble which gives tution fee waiver along with 12k per annum for income below 6 lakh

This fee is approximately same for all the branches. The total fee per year will be approximately 3 lakhs including every aspect. SCHOLARSHIP: If none of your parents works in givernment sector and your parenta total yealy income lies less than one lakh rupees, tgen you will get a scholarship amount of 1 lakh rupees for your tution fee into your college account every semester. If your income lies between 1 lakh to 3 lakhs, tgen you need to pay 33000 from tge tution fees and tge remaininv amoung will be given by government. You will get a scholarship of 66000 per semester. If you annual income lies between 3 to 5 laks, you will get 33000 scholarship per semester from the government.

IIT Kharagpur follows a semester wise system and the semester fee is around INR 152000/- Sometimes the total fee depends of the Hall budget that keeps Changing and varies from Hall to Hall. If i break down the overall fee stucture then we pay a tution fee for INR 100000 and around 14000 as mess charges and 32000 for Hostels in every semester. Institute provides tution fee wavier for SC/ST and students with less income. institute also provides financial suppport through various scholarship.

Reservation schemes, sports quota scheme and likewise innumerable scholarships are available. One can check the scholarships circular on college website or there is a cell for it and people working there are very kind and helpful.

My brother had offers from IITs to choose any branch except CSE and chose Electrical Engineering in IIT KGP. To date, he does not regret his decision. There are ups and downs in every Institute; it just takes time to adapt yourself to such situations.

It is true that some professors overdo it and push you to the extreme, but if you look at this in a positive manner, it’s their pushing that eventually helps you succeed. There are many seniors who might make fun of your tiny efforts in the labs but trust me, today when they will look back, they will surely be regretting the time they wasted watching movies or series.

My brother told me that Electrical Engineering gave him so many friends and experiences that make him yearn for college life today. The labs are old-fashioned and lack much activity in contrast to a SigNet lab/ Power Systems lab.

Curriculum: The primary aim of the course curriculum offered in Electrical Engineering at IIT KGP is to impart to students tools and skills that will make it possible for them to excel in departments such as Electronics, Communication, Computers, Aerospace, and Energy.
Job prospects: An important point to note is that Electrical Engineering does not prepare you for a job but for higher education in the respective areas. Many people from the department pursue M.S. in Aerospace and Material Sciences.
Faculty: While many may not agree, the faculty is excellent except for a few. The cream faculty include Prof. D Das, Prof TKB, Prof S Patra, and Prof S Chattopadhyay among others. Interacting with them might change your opinion regarding the IIT KGP faculty.
Research: The research is obviously not at par with that conducted in CS or EC, but it surely does justice to the department itself.

I think it’s high time people clear misconceptions about Electrical Engineering and develop a positive opinion about it. We should stop running after jobs and companies and in turn let companies seek us.

However, it’s not necessary to evaluate a course on the basis of its opening and closing rank because you can get your branch changed on the basis of your performance in the first year.
