UPES MBA FAQs
Ques. Which specialization should I choose in the UPES MBA core program -- Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, Entrepreneurship, or Digital Business?
Ans. The choice of specialization depends entirely on your career goals. Marketing Management is ideal for those targeting brand management, digital marketing, and sales roles. Finance Management suits students aiming for roles in investment, banking, and financial analysis. Human Resource Management is best for those interested in talent management and organizational development. Operations Management is suited for supply chain, process management, and manufacturing roles. Entrepreneurship is for those looking to start or manage ventures. Digital Business is for those targeting tech-driven business roles in e-commerce, cloud, and digital transformation. It is advisable to research placement outcomes for each specialization at UPES before deciding.
Ques. What is the difference between the core MBA at UPES and the specialized MBA programs like MBA (Oil and Gas Management) or MBA (Business Analytics with KPMG)?
Ans. The core MBA offers six general management specializations (Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, Entrepreneurship, Digital Business) and is suited for students seeking broad business management careers. The specialized MBA programs like MBA (Oil and Gas Management), MBA (Business Analytics with KPMG), or MBA (Strategy and Consulting with KPMG) are domain-specific and industry-focused, often with higher fees (Rs. 19.37 Lakhs for industry-specific programs and Rs. 21.47 Lakhs for EY/KPMG partnership programs). The specialized programs typically have stronger placement outcomes in their respective sectors.
Ques. Does UPES offer a study abroad opportunity as part of the MBA program?
Ans. Yes, UPES offers a Global Immersion Program as part of the MBA curriculum, allowing students to study at partner universities for 4 weeks without any additional fee. Partner institutions include UC Berkeley (USA), University of Canada West (Canada), Virginia Commonwealth University (USA), University of Maribor (Slovenia), and GISMA Business School (Germany). Additionally, UPES offers a 1+1 Global Pathway Program (MBA Global) where students spend 1 year at UPES and 1 year at an overseas partner university, though this is a separate program with different fees.
Ques. What is the UPESMET exam pattern, and how should I prepare for it?
Ans. UPESMET (UPES Management Entrance Test) consists of 140 questions divided into four sections: General Awareness, English Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude, and Logical Reasoning -- with 35 questions each. The exam is conducted online. To prepare, focus on standard MBA entrance exam preparation materials covering verbal ability, quantitative aptitude, data interpretation, and general knowledge. Students who have already appeared for CAT, XAT, GMAT, NMAT, CMAT, or CUET-PG with qualifying scores are exempted from UPESMET and directly called for GD/PI.
Ques. What is the placement record for the core MBA program at UPES, and which companies recruit from campus?
Ans. UPES School of Business reported a highest CTC of Rs. 29-30 LPA and a top 10% average CTC of Rs. 15-17 LPA for the 2023-24 batch. The overall placement rate for eligible students is reported at 90%+. Key recruiters include Accenture, Amazon, Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC, Infosys, IBM, L&T, Nestle, Bosch, Novartis, PayTm, Flipkart, Tech Mahindra, and many others.
Ques. Can I change my MBA specialization after joining UPES?
Ans. Specialization changes after joining are generally not straightforward at UPES. The specialization is selected at the time of admission and the curriculum from Semester 2 onwards is specialization-specific. While UPES does not explicitly publish a policy on mid-program specialization changes, students are advised to finalize their specialization choice carefully before applying. Prospective students should speak to current students or the admissions counsellor to understand the flexibility available, if any, before making a decision.
