CSJMU LLB FAQs
Ques. Is there an entrance exam for CSJMU LLB (Hons.) admission, or is it purely merit-based?
Ans. CSJMU LLB (Hons.) admission is entirely merit-based on graduation marks. There is no entrance exam conducted by the university for this programme. Candidates simply need to register on the official admission portal, and a merit list is prepared based on their graduation percentage. This makes the process straightforward compared to NLUs that require CLAT. However, competition can be high given the limited seats (60 + EWS), so a strong graduation score is important.
Ques. What is the difference between the 3-year LLB (Hons.) and the 5-year BA LLB (Hons.) at CSJMU? Which one should I choose?
Ans. The 3-year LLB (Hons.) is for candidates who have already completed graduation in any discipline and want to pursue law as a second degree or career shift. The 5-year BA LLB (Hons.) is an integrated programme for students who have just completed 10+2 and want to pursue law directly. If you are a graduate looking to enter the legal profession, the 3-year LLB is the right choice. The annual fee for the 3-year LLB is Rs. 71,200, slightly higher than the BA LLB (Rs. 66,200), but the duration is shorter.
Ques. What career options are available after completing LLB (Hons.) from CSJMU?
Ans. After completing LLB (Hons.) from CSJMU, graduates can enrol with the Bar Council and practise as advocates in district courts, High Courts, or the Supreme Court. Other popular career paths include judicial services (UP PCS-J exam), corporate legal roles, legal process outsourcing (LPO), government legal departments, and academia. CSJMU's placement cell actively facilitates internships and campus placements with law firms and corporate legal teams. Many alumni have also pursued LLM programmes at CSJMU itself or at other universities.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for LLB students at CSJMU?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at CSJMU is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. The university has six on-campus hostels with a total capacity of 1,114 seats across all programmes. LLB students can apply for hostel accommodation through the Samarth portal (csjmu.samarth.edu.in) after admission. Hostel fees for 2025-26 range from Rs. 20,620 (Ganga Girls EWS) to Rs. 36,370 (Swarn Jayanti Boys) per annum, excluding mess charges. It is advisable to apply for hostel early as seats fill up quickly.
Ques. Can I apply for UP government scholarship if I am an OBC student enrolled in CSJMU LLB?
Ans. Yes, OBC students domiciled in Uttar Pradesh and enrolled in CSJMU LLB are eligible to apply for the UP Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC students. The family income limit is Rs. 2 lakh per annum. The scholarship covers tuition fee reimbursement and a maintenance allowance. Applications are submitted online at scholarship.up.gov.in, typically between July and November each year. Students must ensure they submit their application within the deadline and keep their Aadhaar, bank account, caste certificate, and income certificate ready for the process.
Ques. What is the moot court culture like at ABVSLS, CSJMU, and does it help in placements?
Ans. Moot court is one of the most prominent activities at Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Legal Studies. The school has a dedicated Moot Court Hall and an active Law School Moot Court Society (LSMCS) that organises intra-university rounds, national moot court competitions, and demo moots for first-year students. Participation in mooting significantly strengthens a student's research, drafting, and oral advocacy skills, which are directly valued by law firms and courts during internship and placement interviews. The school has also hosted district-level legal conclaves with participation from sitting judges and senior advocates.
