SRIHER D.Sc FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between a Ph.D. and a D.Sc. at SRIHER?
Ans. A Ph.D. is a research degree pursued by candidates after their Master's degree, typically over 3-5 years, involving coursework and original research under a supervisor. A D.Sc. is the highest degree at SRIHER, awarded to established researchers who have made outstanding contributions to their field through at least 30 post-doctoral publications in indexed journals over a minimum of 5 years after their Ph.D. The D.Sc. does not involve coursework or a supervisor; it is based entirely on the candidate's independent research record.
Ques. Can I apply for D.Sc. at SRIHER if my Ph.D. is from a different university?
Ans. Yes. Candidates who hold a Ph.D. from any recognized university (not just SRIHER) are eligible to apply for the D.Sc. at SRIHER, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria (5 years post-doctoral research, 30 indexed publications, and employment as a full-time teacher or researcher at SRIHER or a UGC/AIU-approved institution).
Ques. How many publications are required for the D.Sc. at SRIHER?
Ans. A minimum of 30 publications in indexed journals (Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, or UGC-CARE) published after the Ph.D./DM/M.Ch. degree are required. Of these, at least 10 must be as first author, and the remaining 20 must be as first or corresponding author. All publications must relate to the research theme of the D.Sc. thesis and must form a single connected theme.
Ques. How long does the D.Sc. process take from application to award?
Ans. The D.Sc. process typically takes 6-12 months from application to award. After the application is submitted (July or January), the Screening Committee evaluates it (1-2 months), registration follows (October or April), the thesis is submitted within 3-6 months of registration, and evaluation by the Board of Examiners takes another 2-3 months. The entire process from registration to award is typically completed within 9-12 months.
Ques. Is the D.Sc. from SRIHER recognized nationally and internationally?
Ans. Yes. SRIHER is a Category-I Deemed University recognized by UGC, with NAAC A++ accreditation. The D.Sc. degree from SRIHER is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is accepted nationally and internationally as the highest academic degree in the respective discipline.
Ques. Can a researcher working outside SRIHER apply for D.Sc. at SRIHER?
Ans. Yes, provided the candidate is a full-time teacher or research scholar working in an institution recognized and approved by UGC/AIU for research leading to the award of Ph.D./DM/M.Ch. The candidate must submit an NOC from their institution and proof of their research activities. Self-employed individuals or those in private practice are generally not eligible unless their research activities are formally recognized.
