SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, has an admission process including entrance merit and direct entry.
For B.Tech programs, admission is primarily conducted through the SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination (SRMJEEE). Candidates are also eligible if they have valid scores from the JEE Main, with added scholarship benefits.
The MBA program relies on the SRM Joint Entrance Examination for Management (SRMJEEM) or national tests like CAT, MAT, GMAT, CMAT, or TANCET, and a personal interview. The closing CAT 2025 percentile for the general merit was at 50.
Some programs, such as B.Sc., BCA, and BBA, do not require any entrance tests, and admissions are directly through Class 12 merit.
SRMIST's application process begins online through the official portal, where candidates register and pay a non-refundable fee of INR 1,200–1,400, depending on the program. Post-examination, qualified candidates participate in multiple counselling rounds conducted virtually or on campus, where seat allocation occurs based on ranks, preferences, and availability.

SRM Chennai Admission FAQs
Ques. How competitive is MBA admission at SRM Chennai?
Ans. MBA candidates at SRM Chennai have decent chances due to the large intake of 450+ at the main campus, Kattankulathur. Admission via SRMJEEM is easier, as claimed by students, than the national exams. Candidates with 50-60+ CAT percentile called directly for PI is common.
Ques. Can candidates apply for all three phases of admission at SRM Chennai?
Ans. SRM Chennai conducts the SRMJEEE and SRMJEEM for B.Tech and MBA in three separate phases, each with separate exams and counselling rounds. Those candidates who have not secured admission in Phase 1 can apply again in the upcoming phases and appear for the test and counselling process again. Candidates are required to submit a separate application for each phase.
Ques. Does SRM Chennai conduct its own exam for MBA admissions? Is it mandatory?
Ans. Yes, SRMIST conducts SRMJEEM for its MBA program, which is completely compulsory, except for the PGDm and MMS programs. It is a computer-based test conducted for 2 hours and 30 minutes. The exam paper consists of 100 MCQs across 5 sections: Data Interpretation, Quantitative, Reasoning, English, and GK/CA/BA. Each section consists of 20 questions, and each correct answer carries 1 mark; no negative marking. Based on the rank/scores achieved by the candidates in the exam, the institute shortlists them for the personal interview.
Ques. Are the Personal Interviews for the MBA for each phase held separately? What happens after the Personal Interview?
Ans. SRMIST conducts the Personal Interview in online mode for each phase separately. Once the candidate has qualified either through the national-level entrance exams or SRMJEEM, he/she must select the campus and program of their choice in SRM’s admission portal. Post program selection, candidates will receive a virtual meeting link through theirregistered email for an online interview with a team of faculty. Candidates who successfully clear the Personal Interview will receive a Provisional Allotment Offer along with a specified time frame (usually 7-10 days) to pay the initial counselling fee. The admission committee will allocate the campus, program, and specialisation based on the candidate’s performance in the competitive exam/SRMJEEM, academic credentials, Personal Interview, and other factors.
Ques: What are the admission criteria for a PhD at SRM Chennai?
Ans: For PhD admission, candidates require a two-year master's degree or a professional degree equivalent to a master's, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or a grade 'B' on the UGC 7-point scale. Those who have completed M.Phil with at least 55% marks are also eligible.
Ques: What is the refund policy if a student withdraws admission at SRM Institute of Technology?
Ans: The refund request must be made in writing and signed by the student or parent, mentioning details like enrollment number and payment amount, along with a copy of the fee receipt. There is a 100% refund policy available if the withdrawal request is made 15 days or more before the formally notified last date of admission.
Ques: Can a student be admitted without an entrance exam at SRM Institute of Technology?
Ans: Yes, SRM Chennai also accepts candidates through the management quota, without the need for appearing in any entrance examinations. The management quota allows direct admission to B.Tech, MBA, and other courses without the need for SRMJEEE or JEE-MAIN rank. Fees may be higher than merit seats, with a need for possible donations.
