BITS Pilani BITSAT Cutoff

The BITSAT 2025 cutoff for BITS Pilani remained highly competitive for top branches like Computer Science, Mathematics & Computing, and ECE. Based on the latest counselling trends, the cutoff scores for the Pilani campus ranged between 168 and 304 marks for General category candidates.

BITS Pilani Expected BITSAT Cutoff 2026

Since the BITSAT 2026 paper was considered tougher and more time-consuming by many students, slightly lower cutoff marks can now be expected across several branches. Physics and Mathematics were reported to be comparatively difficult in multiple shifts, while Chemistry was tricky in some sessions as well. Due to this increased difficulty level, experts predict that the BITS Pilani cutoff may either remain close to 2025 levels or drop by around 5–10 marks for certain programs.

Student discussions and exam analysis trends also suggest that tougher papers and higher time pressure may lead to lower closing scores during counselling rounds.

Course BITSAT 2025 Cutoff Expected BITSAT 2026 Cutoff
BE Computer Science 304 295–305
BE Mathematics & Computing 295 288–298

BE Civil Engineering 206 198–208
B.Pharm (Hons.) 168 160–170

Key Cutoff Insights for 2026

  • CSE at the Pilani campus is still expected to remain above 295 marks.
  • Mid-level branches like EEE, ENI, and Mechanical may see a noticeable dip in cutoff scores.
  • MSc and lower-demand branches could witness slightly relaxed closing marks if Session 2 difficulty remains high.
  • A score of 300+ may still be considered a safe target for top branches at BITS Pilani.

BITS Pilani FAQs

Ques. Does BITS Pilani accept JEE Main or JEE Advanced scores for B.E. admission?

Ans. No. BITS Pilani admits students to all First Degree programs (B.E., M.Sc., B.Pharm.) exclusively through BITSAT. JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores are not accepted under any circumstance. The only alternate route is the board topper direct admission scheme for first-rank holders.

Ques. Is there a management quota or NRI quota at BITS Pilani for domestic students?

Ans. No management quota exists at BITS Pilani for any programme. International students may apply under the ISA (International Student Admission) scheme. Domestic admissions are strictly merit-based through BITSAT.

Ques. When is hostel accommodation allotted and is it guaranteed for all admitted students? A: Ans. BITS Pilani campus is fully residential. Hostel accommodation is provided to all enrolled students. Allotment details are communicated through the institute after fee payment and enrolment. Day-scholar status is granted only in exceptional circumstances where parents reside in Pilani.

Ques. Can a student with a gap year after 10+2 apply for BITSAT 2026?

Ans. Students who passed 10+2 in 2025 or 2026 are eligible for BITS Pilani admission test. Students who passed in 2024 or earlier or those who reappeared for all subjects in a later year are not eligible for BITSAT 2026. A gap year after 10+2 (without reappearing for all subjects) does not affect eligibility if the original pass year was 2025.

Ques. What documents are required at the time of BITS Pilani admission?

Ans. The standard document checklist includes: Class 10 marksheet and certificate; 10+2 marksheet and passing certificate; BITSAT 2026 scorecard; BITSAT admit card; valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID); passport-size photographs; category certificate (if applying for SC/ST/OBC/EWS scholarship schemes); income certificate (for MCN scholarship applicants). Always verify the final list on the official admissions portal before reporting.

Ques. How and when should a student apply for the Merit-Cum-Need (MCN) scholarship?

Ans. The MCN scholarship application window opens after BITSAT results are declared and seat allotment is confirmed. Students must submit an income certificate (family annual income below INR 8 LPA for 80%/40% waivers, or below INR 15 LPA for 20% waiver), the MCN application form available on the admissions portal, and supporting financial documents. Merit scholarships (top 2%, etc.) are auto-awarded based on BITSAT rank or semester CGPA — no separate application is needed for those.

Ques. Is lateral entry available to BITS Pilani B.E. programs?

Ans. BITS Pilani does not offer lateral entry admission to B.E. programs from diploma holders or from other engineering colleges. All admissions are at the first-year level through BITSAT. There is no lateral entry provision at any of the three Indian campuses (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad).

BITS Pilani: 75 Answered Questions

Which institute is better: VIT, Vellore or BITS Pilani, Goa?

Dhananjay Rao

BITS Goa over VIT Vellore, no contest — with one important exception.

why BITS Goa wins: Practice School program gives you guaranteed internship in final semester at top companies based on CGPA, no interview needed. smaller batch (~550/year vs VIT's 8,000+). no reservation policy so everyone earned their seat. brand respected globally for MS abroad. campus life and Waves fest are legendary ngl.

the one exception — if you're getting CSE at VIT vs a weak branch at BITS Goa (like Manufacturing or Chemical), VIT CSE might actually make more sense for an IT career. top IT companies don't open for non-CS branches even at BITS. if it's CSE vs CSE or ECE vs ECE at both, BITS Goa wins easily.

on fees — BITS is ~Rs.6L/year, VIT is ~Rs.2.5L/year. BITS is more expensive but ROI is genuinely better for most careers. one more thing people miss — BITS Goa specifically has a smaller, tighter campus community which many students actually prefer over VIT's massive size.

Is BITS Pilani equivalent to IITs?

Shruti DasguptaStudent at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

I find comparing BITS Pilani and IITs very lame as both have their own strengths and weaknesses and have made a strong mark in the educational world. Moreover, the ‘better’ institute depends on the individual and the branch he is looking for. For CS and EE, BITS is going to be the best option for you. But if you cannot afford the high fees then IITs will serve you better.

Although BITS is comparable to the old IITs, the suitability depends on the individual itself and is not generic. Everyone has different criteria to judge a college. Some focus on infrastructure while some give importance to placements and research. It depends on the individual on what to prioritize and then make a choice that suits his priorities the best.

Is BITS Pilani really a good institute?

Raktim Tarafdar
Navneet SinghStudied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

A good institute is a very generic term. Everyone has their own criteria for a ‘good institute’. In my opinion, a good institute is one that offers an excellent college life experience combined with a top-notch education.

BITS Pilani has a poor NIRD Rank because NIRF focuses on research and the location of the institute while evaluating this, 2 factors that BITS Pilani fails miserably in. However, if you look at other rankings, BITS Pilani scores pretty well.

  • India Today: BITS Pilani B.Tech ranking by India Today is 7 out of 10 colleges in India in 2022
  • The Week: BITS Pilani Overall ranking by The Week is 5 out of 34 colleges in India in 2021.
  • IIRF: BITS Pilani B.Tech ranking by IIRF is 1 out of 173 colleges in India in 2022.

Additionally, BITS Pilani has excellent infrastructure and hostel facilities. It also organizes 3 major and several minor fests. Oasis is the second-largest cultural fest after IIT Bombay Mood Indigo. Considering all this, I think BITS Pilani is certainly a good institute.

Will BITS Pilani get an IIT status?

Deepshikha Roystudied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

No, I don’t think BITS will ever get an IIT status. The IITs are no longer the statement because their brand value has been diminished owing to their increasing numbers. The reason why IITs gained fame in the first place was because of their exclusivity which has been hampered now.

BITS on the other hand will never choose to dilute its brand name as it stands high with the Birla brand. It has been maintaining its exclusivity and the IIT status will do no good to its reputation.

Apart from placements, what are the major differences between BIT Mesra and BITS Pilani?

Shruti DasguptaStudent, BITS Pilani

As a student at BITS Pilani, I can tell that there are major aspects other than placements that make BITS Pilani better than BITS Mesra. I have listed them below.

  • BITS Pilani has a better and more lively student community with a higher ratio of students qualifying exams like IIT-JEE.
  • It has student-friendly and better management policies for students compared to BITS Mesra.
  • BITS Pilani is known for its strong industry connections that help students in securing internship opportunities in top companies.
  • BITS Pilani has a better infrastructure with modern facilities and dedicated study areas.
  • BITS Mesra uses different state and national-level exams for admission but BITS Pilani has its own dedicated BITSAT exam for admission.

Which college is better for a BTech, DTU or BITS Pilani??

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

BITS Pilani is a much better option to pursue BTech than DTU. Here are a few aspects I have considered before arriving at this conclusion

  • Placements: The best part about BITS Pilani placements is that students of all branches are allowed to sit for all companies. In DTU however, mostly CSE students are allowed followed by ECE, ME, and other branches.
  • Batch size: The huge batch size of DTU results in immense competition during placements as companies only hire a fixed number of students from here while there is no such limitation on hiring the number of graduates from BITS.
  • Package: Some companies offer different packages to BITS and DTU students. For instance, Goldman Sachs offered INR 32 LPA in BITS but only INR 23 LPA in NITs, DTU, and NSIT.
  • Recruiters: All DTU recruiters visit BITS but not vice versa. Top companies like Apple, and Cisco only visit BITS.
  • Internship: BITS provides an internship for 6 months while DRU provides an internship for 2 months only so the exposure and experience gained are limited.
  • Hostel: BITS Pilani has excellent accommodation facilities whereas DTU has no accommodation facilities for Delhi residents.
  • Entrepreneurship: BITS has a better startup culture than DTU.
  • Freedom: The zero attendance policy at BITS is what attracts the majority of students here as they are instilled with a sense of freedom in their academic routine.

Considering the above factors it’s safe to say that BITS Pilani is a more lucrative option than DTU for BTech.

Do students with CGPA's around 7.0 - 7.5 in BITS, Pilani get into good MBA schools in/outside India?

Sabeer Chalana
Shruti DasguptaStudent at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

It is a bit difficult to get admission with this score, especially at an institute like BITS Pilani. Most students with lower CGPAs fail to satisfy the interviewers due to a lack of sufficient knowledge of the core subject. So it is better to find your interest in studying and attend the interviews with presence of mind and confidence.

Is a BITS Pilani MBA good or bad?

Sabeer Chalana
Prateek Sharmastudied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

The campus won’t play a major role in your future. It is based on the talent and skills of the student in the core subject. You should strive hard for a better future.

BITS Pilani is not good at placement when compared with other leading institutes in India like IITs and IIMs, but BITS is better than the third-grade institutes. So it is better to focus on your improvement in the subject rather than the college.

Why does BITS Pilani follow zero attendance?

Namrata Das
Prateek Sharmastudied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

The primary reason why BITS Pilani decided to follow the zero attendance rule was to imply that education cannot be forced and should be a result of individuals' own interests and passions.

If someone is not willing to attend a particular class, he should be forced to do so because he will be attending it uninterested which defers the entire purpose of education. An uninterested student will affect the classroom ambiance and become a distraction for the faculty as well as interested individuals.

Here are a few justified reasons why some students prefer skipping classes

  • Students at BITS Pilani are responsible for organizing huge events like OASIS, BOSM, and APOGEE (Pilani Campus) that require a lot of time commitment making it difficult to attend classes.
  • Additionally, some students are inclined towards research work rather than theoretical knowledge and thus prefer skipping classes. Forcing them to attend classes will hamper their development in the field of their interests. BITS Pilani believes in giving students the space to identify their interests and flourish within them.
  • Students also prefer skipping classes because the speed of teaching is slow in the class and they prefer going through their friends' notes instead of spending 50 minutes.

BITS Pilani has come up with this policy because it believes that forced education might hamper one’s growth.

Raktim Tarafdar
Nayasha MishraStudied at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (2019)

Yes, it’s definitely worth coming to BITS Goa and Hyderabad campuses for your education. Anyone coming from a tier-3 college will find the stark difference with respect to

  • Faculty
  • Course Structure
  • Relative Grading

If you are in your final year of a Diploma in CSE, Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, does not offer lateral entry into the second year of its B.Tech programme for diploma holders. Diploma students can only get into BITS Pilani’s B.Tech through the BITSAT entrance exam and must meet eligibility criteria, including Class 12 with PCM marks, so you’d need to appear for BITSAT and qualify like other first-year applicants.

How to get scholarship in your college
S
Sweta Kumari
May 11, 2024 17:42

Each student's tuition must be paid in full at the time of acceptance, and any scholarships received will be subtracted from the next tuition payment. A student may receive more than one scholarship at a time, unless otherwise stated, as long as the sum of all awards does not exceed fifty percent of the total tuition costs for the semester. But if the scholarship itself is at least 50%, this rule does not apply. The decision of the institute in all areas involving scholarships and concessions at the BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus is final and cannot be contested. In the event that a student is involved in a disciplinary situation, the Institute maintains the right to rescind the scholarship at any time.
