There is a course called CS207 Discrete Structures taught by Professor Ajit Diwan. It was related to Discrete Mathematics - Number Theory, Graph Theory, Combinatorics, Sets, and Groups, and was one of the most difficult courses my friend came across. Professor Diwan is well known for his highly challenging problems and course material. During his lectures, he delivers a lot of information based on principles. For math lovers, his classes are an absolute delight. He refrains from conducting more than one exam a month. However, the level of difficulty of the exam is high. The questions look very complicated but when one ponders upon them, they don’t seem that difficult. The exams were extremely difficult to the extent that the passing cutoff was 7 out of 100 marks. Despite the entire batch consisting of JEE toppers, a lot of them were not able to make it to the cutoff.

The course Operations Research offered at IIT Bombay is an integrated Ph.D. course. Duration: The course duration is 6 years, while the minimum is 5 years. It depends on how much time you take to complete your PhD. You can even extend it more than 6 years but won’t be receiving any stipend for the same. Another option is to opt out of an MSc degree after 3 years. Compensation: Students are paid around INR 6000/- month for 2 years and then INR 25000 from third year. Department: This course is offered by the IEOR( Industrial Engineering and Operations Research) department of IIT Bombay which is considered the best in India. Courses: The courses offered are Industrial Engineering related and some pure operations research related. There are a large number of project courses since this is a research-oriented course. After successfully completing the first 3 years you get admission to a Ph.D. program provided that you qualify certain prerequisites. One of the best technical colleges in the country

One may take any courses in any department which is perhaps one of the best things about coursework. There are certain criterias need to be fulfilled for completion of coursework. The progress is looked by committee and the system is transparent. Overall academics is good with faculties being very experienced in their domains. One thing which needs imporvement is inclusion of more international faculties and students.

Fee Structure And Facilities:

Since 2016, the central Govt. has increased the fees of all these IITs, IISERs, NITs etc. Hence the tuition fees of PhD program per semester are raised to 25000 per semester with additional hostel, mess and gymkhana charges which increase the cost to 75k per semester for PhD Program. But IIT has given tuition Fee WAVIER from 25000 to 2500 per semester for students who have qualified any of the National exams which reduces the cost of fees to 50000 thousand per semester for these students. also the students who qualify any of these National exams get a stipend of 31000/m for 1st 2 years and 35000/m for remaining 3 years of PhD program.

Two banks, namely, State Bank of India and Canara Bank have their branches inside the college. During the admission, they place their stalls near the main building for any assistance on the education load. These loans are readily available at a lucrative interest rate.

I cleared the GATE exam and I got fellowship from the institute as Teaching Assistant-ship. I had to do 8 h per week duty as a TA for 5 years (till i get fellowship). I also got loan for laptop from IIT Alumni centre. IIT alumni gets lot of fund from past alumni students which was utilized for loan facilities and other activities too.

Awesome student life

Loan faculties were provided by IIT alumni through Canara bank. Scholarships were offered based on merit. I received an MHRD fellowship of 18k per month.

Yes, the course requires an entrance examination. It conducts GATE for admission which will be followed by a personal interview or group discussion round. It will be followed by the CCMT counseling round.
