NFSU M.Sc. Cyber Security FAQs
Ques. NFAT has been cancelled for 2026-27. How will admission to M.Sc. Cyber Security at NFSU now work?
Ans. Starting from AY 2026-27, NFSU has replaced NFAT with national-level entrance exams for most programmes. For M.Sc. Cyber Security, admission is now based on CUET-PG 2026 scores under subject code SCQP09 (Computer Science and Information Technology). Candidates need to first appear in CUET-PG 2026 conducted by NTA, and then separately register on the NFSU admission portal (nfsuadm.samarth.edu.in). NFSU will prepare a merit list based on CUET-PG scores and conduct its own counselling and seat allotment process. This change makes the admission process more standardised and aligned with other central universities.
Ques. What is the difference between M.Sc. Cyber Security and M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security at NFSU? Which one should I choose?
Ans. Both programmes are offered by the School of Cyber Security and Digital Forensics at NFSU and have significant overlap, but they differ in focus. M.Sc. Cyber Security is more oriented towards offensive and defensive security, covering cyber warfare, malware analysis, web/network security, AI, IoT, cloud, and blockchain security. M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security, on the other hand, has a stronger emphasis on post-incident investigation, computer forensics, mobile forensics, database forensics, and evidence collection for legal proceedings. If your interest is in protecting systems and working in security operations or penetration testing, M.Sc. Cyber Security is more suitable. If you are interested in investigating cyber crimes and working with law enforcement or legal teams, M.Sc. Digital Forensics is a better fit.
Ques. Is the M.Sc. Cyber Security at NFSU Gandhinagar worth the fees given the placement outcomes?
Ans. The total tuition fee of Rs. 3,60,000 for the 2-year programme is relatively moderate compared to private universities offering similar courses. NFSU Gandhinagar has placed M.Sc. Cyber Security students at companies like Micron, Deloitte, KPMG, Grant Thornton, ICICI Bank, Trellix, and Salesforce. However, placement outcomes vary significantly based on individual skills, certifications, and performance during internships. Students who actively pursue industry certifications (like CEH, OSCP, or CompTIA Security+) alongside their coursework and perform well in the mandatory internship semester tend to secure better packages. The Cyber Defence Centre (CDC) with its ISO-certified Cyber Range is a genuine differentiator for hands-on skill development.
Ques. Does NFSU Gandhinagar have on-campus hostel facilities for M.Sc. Cyber Security students?
Ans. NFSU Gandhinagar does not have a fully on-campus residential hostel that accommodates all students. The university maintains an empanelled list of private hostels located near the campus in Gandhinagar. These hostels offer both AC and non-AC double-sharing rooms with mess facilities. As per the 2026-27 empanelled hostel list, non-AC rooms cost approximately Rs. 60,000 per semester (including mess) and AC rooms cost approximately Rs. 98,000 per semester (including mess). Hostel seats are limited and allotted on a merit/first-come-first-served basis. Students are advised to arrange accommodation early after receiving their admission offer.
Ques. What career roles can M.Sc. Cyber Security graduates from NFSU pursue after completing the programme?
Ans. M.Sc. Cyber Security graduates from NFSU are equipped for a wide range of roles in the cybersecurity domain. Common job profiles include Cyber Security Analyst, Penetration Tester/Ethical Hacker, Security Operations Centre (SOC) Analyst, Malware Analyst, Incident Response Specialist, Cloud Security Engineer, Digital Forensics Investigator, and Information Security Consultant. Given NFSU's unique forensic-cyber curriculum, graduates also have an edge in roles that require both technical security skills and legal/forensic knowledge, such as Cyber Crime Investigator or Forensic Analyst with law enforcement agencies, CERTs, and government bodies. The programme's strong industry connections with firms like Deloitte, KPMG, Micron, and Trellix also open doors to consulting and financial sector cybersecurity roles.
Ques. Can students from a non-engineering background (e.g., B.Sc. IT or BCA) apply for M.Sc. Cyber Security at NFSU?
Ans. Yes, students from a non-engineering background are eligible to apply. The eligibility criteria explicitly include B.Sc. in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science (CS), or Electronics, as well as Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) graduates, provided they have a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD) in their qualifying examination. These candidates must appear in CUET-PG 2026 under subject code SCQP09. However, it is worth noting that the curriculum is technically rigorous and covers advanced topics like malware analysis, network security, and exploit writing. Students from a B.Sc./BCA background are advised to strengthen their fundamentals in networking, operating systems, and programming before joining the programme to keep pace with B.E./B.Tech. peers.
