Bournemouth University Eligibility for Indian Students

Bournemouth publishes country-specific entry requirements for India, holding academic and English standards constant across UK and international applicants once qualifications are matched. Indian applicants should confirm subject-specific floors on their course page, since some competitive programs sit above the institution-wide minimum.

Academic thresholds for Indian applicants:

  • Undergraduate: Class XII (CBSE / ISC / state) at 65 percent overall, 60 percent for Computing, Business, Media
  • Postgraduate taught: three or four-year Bachelor’s degree at 55 percent (UK 2:2), 60 percent for UK 2:1 programs
  • MBA: Bachelor’s 2:2 plus two years full-time work experience, or 2:1 with placement considered via interview
  • Research (PhD / MRes): Master’s or first-class Bachelor’s plus a research proposal aligned to a Bournemouth supervisor

What English Tests does Bournemouth University Accept?

Bournemouth accepts UKVI-approved tests for the Student Visa Route. The institution-wide taught floor is IELTS 6.0, and research degrees plus the MBA require IELTS 6.5. Scores must be under two years old at the CAS date.

Bournemouth University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Indian applicants can skip IELTS if they meet one of Bournemouth’s alternative English pathways:

  • Standard XII English: CBSE, ISC, or state board English at 70 percent or above for most taught programs
  • English-medium degree: a Bachelor’s from an Indian university with a formal Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter on institutional letterhead
  • Pre-sessional pathway: completion of Kaplan’s pre-sessional English course at Bournemouth University International College

Competitive courses in Media, Nursing, and Law can still ask for IELTS despite the general waiver, so confirm with the admissions officer before you submit.

Bournemouth University Postgraduate Programs

Bournemouth University’s postgraduate portfolio spans Media, Business, Data Science, Computing, Health, and Tourism. Most taught master’s run as one-year full-time programs with a September or January start, and many carry a 30-week or 60-week placement option that stretches the total to 21 months.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use £1 = INR 127.95 (July 2026). Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Base tuition for postgraduate taught programs sits between £18,900 and £23,000 per year (INR 24.18 to 29.43 Lakhs), varying by course. The full course-wise fees breakdown lives on the fees page.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Bournemouth University international entry requirements page for your chosen program before applying.

Bournemouth University Undergraduate Programs

Bournemouth University MBA Admissions

Bournemouth Business School’s MBA runs as a one-year full-time program at the Executive Business Centre in Lansdowne, with a January or September start. The MBA targets mid-career applicants and covers strategy, leadership, operations, and innovation. Bournemouth does not require GMAT or GRE for the MBA.

Bournemouth University MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants

Indian MBA applicants need a Bachelor’s Honours degree in any subject and a defined work-experience profile. Bournemouth also runs a case-by-case interview route for strong Bachelor’s 2:1 applicants without the full experience block.

  • Full-time MBA: Bachelor’s 2:2 (around 55 percent) plus two years relevant full-time work experience
  • 2:1 route: Bachelor’s 2:1 (around 60 percent) with placement or part-time experience, considered via interview
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each element
  • Interview: online panel interview at the shortlist stage, focused on career goals and leadership examples

Bournemouth University MBA Rounds and Fees

The MBA follows rolling admissions rather than fixed rounds, and Bournemouth reviews complete files as they arrive. For 2026-27 entry, MBA tuition is £19,000 (INR 24.31 Lakhs) for full-time study. The 30-week industry placement carries a nominal placement-year fee of £1,900 (INR 2.43 Lakhs) in the year taken.

Bournemouth University PhD Admissions

Bournemouth University offers PhD and MRes degrees across four faculties: Business and Law, Media and Communication, Science and Technology, and Health and Social Sciences. Applications go direct through myHub, with two intakes per year (September and January) and a fixed submission cut-off for each.

Bournemouth University PhD Eligibility and Research Proposal

Research applicants need a strong academic record plus a supervisor-aligned proposal. Bournemouth expects a Master’s or a first-class or upper-second-class Bachelor’s for entry, with the proposal counting heavily in the decision.

  • Academic: Master’s degree, or first-class or 2:1 Bachelor’s in a relevant discipline
  • Research proposal: 2,000 to 3,000 words covering aims, methods, timeline, and supervisor fit
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four components
  • References: two academic references, at least one from the Master’s dissertation supervisor

Bournemouth University PhD Fees and Studentships

International PhD tuition for 2026-27 is £21,000 per year (INR 26.87 Lakhs) for library-based research and £26,250 per year (INR 33.59 Lakhs) for lab-based research. Fully funded studentships waive tuition for 36 months and pay a maintenance stipend of £18,622 (INR 23.83 Lakhs) per year in line with UKRI rates.

Insider note: Bournemouth publishes match-funded PhD studentships across the four faculties every February and September. Indian applicants who pre-align a proposal with a named supervisor before the studentship call improve their odds sharply. Read the full funding for Indian students guide before applying.

Bournemouth University Application Process

Postgraduate applicants apply through myHub, Bournemouth’s central applicant portal, while undergraduate applicants route through UCAS. Steps below are drawn from Bournemouth’s official application guide.

  1. Choose your program on Bournemouth’s course finder and check subject-level prerequisites
  2. Register on the myHub applicant portal for postgraduate, or start a UCAS profile for undergraduate
  3. Upload transcripts, English test scores, a personal statement of 500 to 700 words, and one to two references
  4. Submit the application. Bournemouth charges no BU application fee for taught postgraduate courses via myHub. UCAS charges £28.50 (INR 3,647) for undergraduate applications, which is a UCAS system fee
  5. Receive the decision within four to six weeks, sometimes two to three weeks for straightforward postgraduate files
  6. Accept the offer inside the six-week acceptance window and pay the tuition deposit to trigger CAS issue
  7. Apply for the UK Student Visa Route with the CAS number and financial evidence

Bournemouth University Admission Decisions Timeline

Decisions arrive by email and appear in myHub or UCAS Track. Offer letters carry a defined acceptance window and any outstanding conditions.

  • Offer types: unconditional (all conditions met) or conditional (waiting on results, English test, or references)
  • Acceptance deadline: around six weeks from offer date, with a deposit payment window inside that
  • Deferral: permitted once to the next intake, subject to program availability and place caps
  • Interview: not required for most taught masters, standard for MBA and select creative subjects

Bournemouth University Documents Required

Bournemouth’s document checklist is standard for UK universities. Upload files as scanned PDFs through myHub or UCAS at the time of application. Keep originals ready for the visa file and Bournemouth’s compliance check on arrival.

  • Passport bio-page scan, valid for at least six months beyond your program end date
  • Standard XII marksheet and pass certificate (for undergraduate applicants)
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and consolidated marksheet (for postgraduate applicants)
  • Official English test score report (IELTS TRF, TOEFL, or PTE score sheet)
  • Personal statement covering academic goals, motivation, and course fit
  • One to two academic or professional references on institutional letterhead
  • Updated CV or résumé, especially for MBA applicants with work experience
  • Work experience letters on company letterhead (MBA applicants)
  • Research proposal of 2,000 to 3,000 words (PhD and MRes applicants)
  • Financial evidence (bank statement, sanction letter, or scholarship award letter)
  • Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter if applying for the IELTS waiver

Bournemouth University Acceptance Rate

Bournemouth University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Independent tracking places the rate at an estimated 60 to 75 percent for international taught programs, based on the university’s modern-university intake pattern and its access-oriented mission, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated eligibility floors. The university’s ranking band at QS 801-850 and THE 401-500 corroborates a moderately selective profile.

Which Bournemouth University Programs are More Competitive?

Not every course sits at the institution-wide floor. Media, Journalism, Nursing, and Physiotherapy carry the tightest funnels for Indian applicants due to portfolio checks or NHS-clinical placement caps. Data Science and Cyber Security also sit above the average because they require a Computing or Maths bachelor’s.

How to Improve Your Bournemouth University Acceptance Odds?

Bournemouth reviews holistically for taught programs, so a strong personal statement plus subject-relevant electives lift borderline files. Applying at the first opening of a cycle also helps, because rolling review fills places before the recommended cut-off for over-subscribed programs.

Insider note: Bournemouth’s admissions team openly favours candidates who name a specific career pathway tied to Bournemouth’s placement network, and applicants who reference a placement partner (Sky, IBM, Disney Interactive Studios) in their personal statement report faster reviews.

UK Student Visa for Bournemouth University Applicants

Indian applicants to Bournemouth need the UK Student Visa (formerly Tier 4), granted by UK Visas and Immigration after Bournemouth issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS = the sponsor-issued reference number needed to apply for the visa). Bournemouth is a Home Office licensed sponsor, so all CAS numbers issued are visa-valid. The CAS is valid for six months from issue, so plan visa lodgement inside that window.

Apply from India after receiving the CAS. The visa application fee is £558 (INR 71,396), and applicants also pay an Immigration Health Surcharge of £776 per year (INR 99,289), which is the healthcare coverage under the NHS. Financial proof for Bournemouth (outside London) requires £1,171 per month (INR 1.50 Lakhs) for up to nine months of living expenses, on top of tuition. Funds must sit in the account for 28 consecutive days before applying. See the UK Student Visa requirements for Indian students for the full document list and biometrics steps.

2026 update: the UK Graduate Route stays open, giving Bournemouth graduates two years of post-study work (three for PhD), which most Indian applicants use to build UK work experience before applying for a Skilled Worker visa.

Tips for Bournemouth University Admissions

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Bournemouth University over recent intakes:

  • Apply for September postgraduate intake by early May to leave buffer for visa processing of six to eight weeks in Delhi and Mumbai
  • Highlight project or industry work in your personal statement for MSc Data Science, Media, or Business courses, since Bournemouth values practice-oriented applicants
  • Use the Standard XII English at 70 percent waiver where accepted, saving four to six weeks of IELTS scheduling
  • Bank a UK 2:1 equivalent (around 60 percent) to unlock the Academic Excellence Scholarship of around £1,500 (INR 1.92 Lakhs)
  • Get MOI letters on university letterhead, sealed and signed, since immigration officials reject informal copies
  • Reach out to programme leads via LinkedIn for MSc or MA fit questions, since Bournemouth’s response window is faster than centralised admissions

Bournemouth University Admissions Checklist

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete before submitting to Bournemouth University:

  • 12 months out: shortlist courses on Bournemouth’s course finder and note subject prerequisites
  • 10 months out: book IELTS or PTE and sit by month eight, allowing one resit window
  • 8 months out: request Standard XII or Bachelor’s transcripts and the MOI letter from your last institution
  • 6 months out: submit the myHub application for postgraduate or the UCAS application for undergraduate
  • 4 months out: accept the offer, pay the deposit, and request the CAS letter from the admissions team
  • 3 months out: lodge the UK Student Visa application with financial evidence and biometrics
  • 1 month out: book accommodation, flights, and airport pickup through Bournemouth’s welcome team

Bournemouth University offers a moderately selective admissions path for Indian students, with a September primary intake, IELTS 6.0 floor, and postgraduate tuition of £18,900 to £23,000 (INR 24.18 to 29.43 Lakhs) per year. No BU application fee, rolling myHub reviews, and Standard XII English waivers make the process leaner than most UK peers if you plan around visa timing.

Scholarship

  • I did receive a scholarship. It was academic. For anyone who scored above 70% in their undergraduate degree. Was eligible for that scholarship. I got a scholarship of £3750. Everyone from our year got this automatically if they scored and proved they have 70 or 70 above in their undergraduate degree.
  • One of my batchmate was on Chevening Scholarship. She was from Kenya. And other students also got different scholarships like sports or music depending on the scholarships and their fields.

Scholarship

  • I didn’t get any scholarship. Usually, you need to score above 7 bands in IELTS or 75 % in your bachelor's degree to get a scholarship. The scholarship amount was 3500£.
  • In my batch, there were a few students who received this amount. I don't have a rough figure, but it depends on your marks. There is no limit for this scholarship; for example, even if 1000 students scored 75%, they will be eligible for scholarships.

  • There was scholarships but I didn't avail myself of them, as I wanted to take up an internship after the course and my course was not eligible for scholarships.
  • A friend of mine had availed a scholarship during her time in the university. There were three scholarships depending on the academic performance of the region-specific student, and the amount was up to 4500 GBP which was eligible if the student was outside the UK.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I received a scholarship in the first year of my course. It was the Academic Excellence scholarship which requires the student to have scored certain score in their 12th results.
  • The award amount for the scholarship was £1500 which was deducted from the fees in the first year.
  • UK and some european students recieved student loans from the University i believe. And some students also get sports/ music related scholarships (based on the course as well)
  • Acadmic Excellence scholarship must be accessible to everyone who reaches the eligibility criteria, i don't think there were any limitations on how many scholarships are given each year.
