Dislikes

- Frequency of transportation during odd hours.
Course Curriculum
- It was a mix of both theory and practical during the curriculum.
- The lectures conducted were timely and engaging. There was a lot to learn and there was special activities conducted to make the session interactive.
- There was one or two classes which were conducted on alternative days of a week. Students have a choice of choosing their subjects depending on the module they want to study.
- The average number of students was 20-30
- There were 3-4 indian students enrolled in the programme.
Admission Experience
- The SOP (Statement of Purpose) should be very strong and the IELTS/PTE scores should also match the criteria for the university which you intend to apply to. I had applied to various universities in the UK out of which I had got unconditional offers from them. One university, the University of Hertfordshire, had rejected my application, as they had different eligibility criteria in it.
- The main criteria for me were the cost of living and the commuting facilities while studying.
- I felt Bournemouth was a very nice place and it was also accessible from the Heathrow Airport in London via road transportation.
- The first thing needed was the updated CAS letter (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies), which was done once the unconditional offer was accepted. In order to get the unconditional offer, school marksheets, degree certificates, SOP and english test scores should match the eligibility of the university you are applying to. I had taken PTE (Pearson Test of English) in online format and I had got a very good score which matched the criteria for the university I was applying to. Minimum score required is 6.5 overall with the same score in modules namely reading, writing, speaking and listening but it can be waived if the English marks in high school are first class.
- I took the January intake and it was useful, as I was able to complete the course timely during the COVID-19 lockdown. During that point of time, I had finished my assessments and I only had to complete my thesis and submit it.
- The admission process was not very long; I submitted the necessary documents for it and I received the unconditional offer, which allowed me to prepare for the student visa process.
Faculty
- 20:1 and during this ratio we were able to get to see all kinds of classmates in the lecture and most of them would be part-timers during this point of time.
- The teaching was done in the form of powerpoint presentations and was completed in a stipulated time without any delay. There was an abundant amount of information and knowledge being imparted during those lectures.
- Not really but they were very kind enough to give good advice regarding career choices and skills needed to survive in the job market.
- The faculty member I admire the most is the programme head Gail Ollis, who was very helpful in providing resources during my assessments and went out of her way in providing constructive feedback, which was useful in the long run.
Campus Life
- There are three campuses, namely the Talbot Campus, Arts and the Lansdowne campus.
- It had a library, gym, coffee shops, bank and a trendy cafeteria catering a different menu every day. The campus also had a clinic where students are eligible for free treatment once registered under a general practitioner.
- There was the one world festival organized along with other festivals like christmas where the campus would organise activities like ice-skating, christmas dinners and many other fun activities for students.
- There are various societies and clubs based on the interests of the students and they often provide updates about their upcoming events and timings.
Part Time Jobs
- The jobs are updated on the university's job portal.
- 9 GBP per hour
- Student ambassadors is the most common job applied for by students who are looking for part-time jobs on campus and their pay rate is the same: 9 GBP.
- 30 hours per week as per the visa.
- Before applying for a part-time job, it is important to have a local bank account and a national insurance number so that salary payments are not illegal and taxes are paid.
- Depends on the hours spent. The jobs are often updated on the university job board and local job websites are also useful here. Apply for the job; an assessment is done for it and lastly, an interview is done. Once the job is secured, there are formalities which need to be completed. It is also mandatory to have a local bank account so that the salaries are paid legally and work should be not beyond 30 hours per week
Placement
- It depends on the job market.
- The salary range would be from 20000-35000 GBP
- Students apply for jobs on the Uni website and they are also given counselling for it by experts. Job fairs are organised, which also play an important role in networking with the right people.
- A friend of mine got placement and it was for 40 weeks maximum during that point of time.
- JP Morgan was one of the companies where graduates were hired, along with Citrix.
Accommodation
- The university had their accommodation where PG students had a choice to choose either sharing or a studio flat. I chose to live in a studio, as it had all the amenities like a kitchen, bedroom and more space, which was required for me during my course. I had booked it through their website, where I had diverse options to choose from based on my liking and made the necessary payment for it.
- My rent was 5000 GBP which was to be paid in instalments.
- The challenges faced were the availability, as there were not many options and getting the right one was important.
- It wasn't that far, as there was transportation provided by the university and was able to reach the campus on time. Most Indians often prefer staying in groups through low-cost accommodation, as it may be a cheaper option through various real estate and rental websites, but I preferred campus accommodation due to safety concerns.
Exams
- English test namely PTE, IELTS or TOEFL for UK university admission
- SOP, Letter of recommendation from college professors, updated CV if you are currently working, school marksheets, degree certificate, valid passport and bank balance with the eligible amount in it. Address proof is also mandatory during this process.
- Interview was not part of my application process.
Fees
- 15000 GBP for the admission of the course and the fees were yearly. 5000 GBP for the hostel, which had to be paid in instalments.
- The monthly expenses were 250 GBP which was able to cover transportation, food and other amenities. I also took a part-time job on campus which helped me to cover for other expenses during emergency situations. I had to pay an extra 800 GBP for the placement services, as I had a placement option in my course.
Scholarship
- There was scholarships but I didn't avail myself of them, as I wanted to take up an internship after the course and my course was not eligible for scholarships.
- A friend of mine had availed a scholarship during her time in the university. There were three scholarships depending on the academic performance of the region-specific student, and the amount was up to 4500 GBP which was eligible if the student was outside the UK.
