University of Manchester Accommodation: Residential Campuses

University of Manchester has 19 halls across three residential campuses – City, Fallowfield and Victoria Park – which all have their own unique features and amenities. The following section discusses the three residential campuses in detail.

City Campus

If you prefer to be in the midst of a bustling university environment, where you can easily access lectures and study areas, then the City campus would be the ideal choice for any student pursuing programs at University of Manchester. Situated either north or south of the University campus, the halls of residence offer convenient living options. By choosing to reside in the north, you will only have to take a five-minute walk to reach the vibrant city centre, while opting for the south will require a ten-minute walk or a quick bus ride to be in the heart of the action.

City campus halls are:

  • Denmark Road
  • George Kenyon Hall
  • Horniman House (includes accommodation suitable for couples but not children)
  • Weston Hall
  • Whitworth Park

Fallowfield Campus

Fallowfield can be described as a self-contained township within the city, renowned for its vibrant social atmosphere that presents ample opportunities for making new acquaintances. In addition to its lively surroundings, there are plenty of shops, cafes, and bars in the area, with frequent bus services connecting it to the city centre, making it a highly desirable living destination.

Furthermore, the Armitage Centre, one of the University's two sports venues, is situated in Fallowfield. The Centre provides a comprehensive range of sports facilities, including all-weather and grass pitches for football, rugby, hockey, and cricket, squash and badminton courts, fitness classes, and much more perfect for student prsuing undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Manchester.

Fallowfield campus halls are:

  • Ashburne Hall
  • Oak House
  • Richmond Park
  • Sheavyn House
  • Unsworth Park
  • Uttley House
  • Woolton Hall

Victoria Park Campus

The location of Victoria Park, situated between the City and Fallowfield campuses, makes it an excellent living option for those seeking a balance between academic and social pursuits. The area is adorned with lush greenery, creating a serene environment that is conducive to both studying and living. Within a short walking distance are Whitworth Park and the highly acclaimed Whitworth Art Gallery. The main University campus can be reached in about 15 minutes by foot, with regular bus services also available.

Furthermore, the city centre is just a 10-minute bus ride away. The neighboring district of Rusholme is home to the popular "Curry Mile" section of Wilmslow Road, offering a diverse range of cuisines and produce from a variety of restaurants and shops. You'll also find several small minimarkets, as well as Lidl, Tesco, and Sainsbury's in the area. Rusholme is a vibrant and cosmopolitan locality that adds to the charm of living in Victoria Park. Considering the cost of living in UK this seems like a perfect choice for international students.

Victoria Park campus halls are:

  • Brook Hall
  • Burkhardt House
  • Canterbury Court
  • Daisy Bank Hall
  • Dalton-Ellis Hall
  • Hulme Hall
  • St Anselm Hall

  • I was in budget accommodation provided by the University. But the services were excellent, the rooms are great, and the space is great. It was a good experience.
  • I don't remember the monthly rent but the final payment was GBP 7000 excluding food facilities.
  • There is very less accommodation so you have to choose fast. Also i had to live in a different room for a few days, as the room allotted to me was under maintenance.
  • Choose the University accommodation even if it's a bit expensive. It's safe, more student-like and helps you get to know more people.
  • My accommodation was 5 km from my campus.

  • I just put in for university accommodations and from there the university helps you get an accommodation. So I made a mistake wrt accommodation as when you apply for that, you have with your 5 preferences based on the university accommodation and accidentally my first preference was IQ accommodation in Salford. I didn’t read the distance, which showed 40 mins from bus so I ended up there but my accommodation is really big and better than other university accommodation but since it is off campus, I won’t recommend it.

  • I found my accommodation through unite student accommodation and stayed in piccadilly Manchester. The process was straightforward, but I'd highly recommend booking early because prices go up quickly as the intake approaches. Since I booked two months before the intake, and my rent was around £800 per month.

  • I opted for On-campus accommodation and I loved my flat. A form is sent out to students from the university itself where we have to give our top 5 preferences for accommodation and the university will allot one at random. I luckily got my first preference. It was just a 5-minute walk to the library and about a 7-10 minute walk to the main lecture buildings.
  • The monthly rent was about 540 GBP which is the cheapest on campus. I have a separate bedroom to myself. The kitchen, toilet and shower rooms are shared common spaces and these spaces are cleaned by the cleaning staff twice a week. There are an iron box, kettle, fridge, oven, microwave and vacuum available in the flat. I personally did not encounter any challenges while finding or securing my accommodation because it is the one I wanted.
  • I stay in Whitworth Park Leamington House and this house is the most newly furnished one in this accommodation community. it is the cheapest when compared to other one-campus accommodations, and it is very close to lecture halls. I have seen many Indians choose the accommodation I have chosen, purely because of the above-mentioned reasons. But a few students go for private accommodations or a little far off campus if they have more funds with them.
  • If your budget is small and you want one close to campus and do not mind a shared toilet/bathroom, then I definitely recommend Whitworth Park, but only certain flats are good (a few very old flats are in bad condition), so please check pictures before giving this one as a preference.

  • I found my accommodation through the sanctuary students website with the help of my consultants at TFM Overseas Education Consultants.
  • My monthly rent is 848 pounds, and we have all bills included along with free Wi-Fi. We have to pay for our laundry separately at the accommodation itself.
  • I found it difficult to pay the entire rent at one go
  • I would suggest looking for co-living flats if you want to go for something more affordable. But if your budget is comfortable, go for student accommodation.
  • It was only a 10 minute walk. Most indian students stay in student accommodations near the campus or in salford apartments.

  • Off campus. Near City centre.
  • I used UniAcco but I would advise students to simply go to the website of the accommodation site and book it directly because agencies take a fee of 100 pounds which is so not worth it.
  • 235 per week rent.
  • Getting uni accommodation is the best, it is way cheaper, starting around 150 i guess. It's best to stay there.

  • I searched through local agents. This can be considered cost-effective as compared to on-campus accommodation. The only drawback of staying off campus is that you don't make friends easily, which can make you feel home-sick at times. I have seen a lot of students staying on campus being more involved in groups.

  • I searched for the accommodations months in advance and I emphasise the need for students to book their accommodations as early as possible. Because as time runs short, the prices skyrocket. Also, the location of accommodation matters a lot—how close it is to the university, the closest market and bus stations, etc.

  • I chose university's owned student accommodation (which was on their website) so that I could make new friends asap and it's close to the uni as well. Yearly rent was around 7000 pounds/year but it depends on the city and university so make sure you do your research.
  • No challenges when finding accommodation in general because you're the one paying for services. You get wifi and all facilities like laundry and stuff.
  • I'd recommend getting student accommodation if possible so that you can party all weekend with friends or else you'll be surrounded by old people if you go off-campus non-student accommodation lol. Trust me, I know I've been there. They're cheapest and provide security as well and are honestly quite well maintained so you won't have to worry about your living and can focus entirely on studies.

  • You can get university accommodation through the university portal. Rent would be 187£ /week for 51 weeks for a silver ensuite bedroom. The room has 3/4 size bed, ensuite washroom, study desk, shared kitchen and communal area. There is 24/7 security and reception, secure entry and exit, recreational facilities.
  • I would recommend every student to check the BUS CONNECTIVITY from their accommodation to the university, before finalizing their accommodation in Manchester. Areas like george kenyon hall, fallowfield area, wilmslow road area and city center, are best for traveling and transport, throughout the city at all times of the day. Extremely good connectivity.
  • My accommodation was 25 mins walk from university.
  • Indian students are residing in all parts of the city.
