I only applied to Nottingham Trent University as I was looking for this particular field in my master's, and I got their confirmation within 2-3 months and mainly to pursue Sports Law, which very few universities were providing. I also looked over some more universities, for example University of Manchester, but being expensive, and Manchester wasn't the place I was looking to stay, so it made Nottingham Trent University a better option. Most importantly, the course I was looking for was provided here by NTU, and beforehand, I talked to a lot of graduates, who gave their insights. Also, the nightlife and overall living factors were essential. The application involved a lot of steps, from filling out the form to applying for the VISA. It was a hectic and not an easy process, but surely it was worth it. For my post-graduation study, I graduated from a top-tier University and had a minimum 75% in my English subject in high school. There were no challenges, but it wasn't easy or smooth either. It is just like applying for a university, but the overwhelming feeling of going abroad and living alone for 1 year surely scares a little. 2022-2023 is my admission year. The admission process took around 3 months. Starting from applying to their portal and uploading the required documents. Then, to pay some amount of money to secure your seat in the intake, and if it is not rejected, the University sends you a letter of acceptance, which means you have been accepted into that particular batch of the subject study. I applied to Nottingham Trent University and the University of Portsmouth and was selected by both universities. I chose Nottingham Trent University over Portsmouth because of its location and the overall crime rate. Both universities are nice in terms of the education and research they have in there. I would suggest that people apply to more universities if they want a higher percentage of selection The reason behind choosing Nottingham Trent University was mainly because they had a good research facility, basically in my field. The admission process was very easy; it didn't have any critical processes They accept IELTS, and the band level should be 6 in each section The overall admission process was swift. The only thing that consumed a lot of time was the ATAS certificate, which is required if you are pursuing a research degree The admission process was swift. I applied to 8 unis across the UK and got into 7. University of Salford – MA in Public Relations and Digital Communications (Accepted with around 2500 GBP scholarship) University of Stirling - MSc in Public Relations (I almost went there but tuition fees were higher than the rest). 3000 GBP scholarship Bournemouth University – MA in Film and Television Writing (2000 GBP scholarship) Aberystwyth University, Wales - MA in Film Writing (Scholarship or Free Stay option) Sheffield Hallam University - MA in Public Relations (Scholarship of 3000 GBP) Nottingham Trent University - MA in Broadcast Journalism (50 per cent scholarship after 3 essay submission criteria was fulfilled and selected) Brighton University - MA in Journalism (Not selected) Leeds Beckett University - MA in English (selected without scholarship) To be honest, Brighton looked out of my reach from Day 1, both in terms of tuition fees and their academic criteria, which were also high. I had 65% from Calcutta University for my BA in English and an 8 band out of 9 in IELTS which was accepted by most but probably their criteria were high. I chose Nottingham Trent University for its practical, hands-on approach to Broadcast Journalism. At least that's what was mentioned on their website. A lot of other universities offered this course, but NTU felt different—it didn’t just promise theoretical knowledge; it emphasised real newsroom simulation, working with industry-standard equipment, and news weeks that mirrored actual broadcast environments. I could see myself becoming a journalist there, not just studying the idea of one. And that was the idea they sold to us. We were kind of sure that we'd at least get some real-life opportunities there. Plus, they gave a 50 per cent scholarship to me, which itself is a very competitive process. We all had to write really long and descriptive essays and 1000s were submitted, out of which only 100 were selected. Like I said, I was accepted into a few other media programs in the UK, but NTU stood out for three major reasons: Industry-connected faculty – many of them had years of experience with the BBC, ITV, and international media. And I really believed we would secure some odd jobs there. Not just unpaid internships but actual exposure to the world of iTV and BBC. Strong career support – I read reviews and testimonials that praised the uni’s focus on employability, not just academics. Our uni has GOLD standards with tonnes of lofty awards every year. Our degree too has GOLD standards as per the BJTC Council, which is the council for Broadcast Journalism in the UK. Plus its ranking was good. The course had accreditation as well. Affordability and city life – Compared to London-based universities, Nottingham offered a great balance between quality education and a liveable, student-friendly city vibe. That mattered as an international student trying to budget without compromising on opportunities. Just 2 hours from London yet not as expensive, Nottingham is basically a student city with 2 enormous unis making the city a very student-friendly one. In compared to Sheffield or Salford or even Scotland, this seemed like a budget-friendly option. I applied for the 2022–2023 September intake. My decision was mainly influenced by the structure and quality of the Broadcast Journalism course at NTU — especially the emphasis on practical training, newsroom simulation, and employability. I also factored in Nottingham’s affordable cost of living compared to cities like London, which made it more manageable for me as an international student. Overall, the combination of the university’s reputation, the course content, and the city’s student-friendly environment made it the ideal choice for me. The entire admission process took around 2 to 3 months from start to finish. Here’s a rough breakdown of how it went: January 2022: I began preparing my documents, including my Statement of Purpose, academic transcripts, and IELTS score. I received guidance and assistance from SI-UK Lucknow (now rebranded as StudyIn), which really helped streamline the process. February 2022: I officially submitted my application through the NTU portal. March 2022: I was invited for a written interview to showcase my writing skills — mostly centred around my journalism experience, motivation, and current affairs awareness. Late March 2022: I received a conditional offer, subject to submitting my final documents and financial proof. Around the 17th, I think. April–Aug 2022: Once I submitted the remaining documents, the offer was updated to unconditional with scholarship submissions and I proceeded with my visa process and scholarship application. By 27th July, my scholarship was confirmed. On 8th August, I got my Visa. I applied to 2 universities- Both accepted (Coventry University and Nottingham trent University). Did not receive any rejections. I can't really say that because I targeted my universities very carefully. As i had experience doing a master's in CS in the US prior to the UK, I knew exactly how I should be applying to Universities. In my opinion though Rejections happen because you overestimate and apply to too many ambitious and just one safe university, which results in many rejections. I would suggest just applying to one ambitious university. Firstly Employability support. Secondly, I have been connecting with a professor from the university regarding research opportunities toward Voluntary sector. I would say I had a bias to work with this professor specifically to get into the voluntary sector. Being a CS graduate, I also wanted a course that was a mix of management and tech and not many universities offered that either. Management and Business Analytics is a unique mix I could find only in NTU and Coventry. However I chose NTU as it was just a bit cheaper than Coventry and fits my budget The entire process took place in literally 3 weeks from the date of application until I received my CAS. Choosing the UK was not tough, as I had never given a thought to any other countries over the UK. I had family in the UK; it was closer to India with just 8 hours of travel distance, and it was one of the fashion countries in the world. I did consider Milan and Paris too but due to the language barrier, the UK felt safer. Nottingham Trent has received a lot of awards in terms of course quality, student city, employability, and sustainability practices , all being the perfect choice for me. Being a fashion student travelling abroad, all these reasons felt right to choose this university. NTU is known for having one of the best industry-related fashion courses in the UK, focusing on sustainability and innovation . Nottingham is also known as a creative hub due to its rich history and home to independent designers, vintage shops, and successful designers like Paul Smith, all making it a perfect destination for a fashion student. The location is not too far from London or any other cities in the UK, situated in the West Midlands, making it easier to explore the rest of the country. Career opportunities: NTU does have in-house part-time jobs and employability teams that help you find the right job role and help you with the application process . However, for a master's student, there is hardly any time to attend employability sessions as most of those sessions overlapped with my daily course hours. It also doesn't support a lot getting into big fashion brands, making it tougher to get jobs right after the master's degree. Choosing NTU and Nottingham is the best decision I have made in my life. Every little experience, every challenge and hardship, every night and fun times with my friends is something I will cherish my entire life. Applied into:-  Loughborough University: Shortlisted          Lincoln University: Shortlisted  University Of Leicester: Rejected One of the reasons I believe I got rejected was because I had completed my University Foundation Programme (UFP) at Brooke House College, Leicester. This was an alternative program for A-Levels Program, which is recognised as the most toughest and rewarding program in the UK. Almost all the universities accept applicants with the A-Levels program.   Another reason was my score in the IELTs English Test. I achieved 6.5 while they prefer students with a higher score for certain programs. Such as the one that I had applied for at University Of Leicester.  University Of Nottingham: Shortlisted Nottingham Trent University: Admitted  1. Various factors influenced my decision. The Location of the University, the accessibility to public transportation, 24/7 Library, interaction with course specific tutors prior to the admission process and sports (football).  2.I had applied from the UCAS online website. I had to do quite a lot of research about the eligibility of the course in different universities before applying and getting admission.  There was also a campus visit with an interview, after I had received an unconditional offer from NTU, so I could make an informed visit!  3. I had to take my IELTs English Test before applying. Because the scores on that test were vital for my admission as an international student. The minimum score required for my admission in Nottingham Trent University for my choice of course was 6.5 or above. 4. Overall process took a lot of time, but I was given plenty of time to make an informed decision. I did not face any such challenges that were unsolvable or required help from any external source.  For Applying Everything was quite straightforward. 1. Which intake did you apply to, and what factors influenced your decision? I applied for the September 2017 intake, my college, Brooke House College in Market Harborough had a direct tie up with Nottingham Trent University. They had come to our college for the university fair. There I got to meet with a representative of NTU who gave me a detailed description of different courses available and the fees structure, lifestyle in Nottingham and many other things! 2. How long did the admission process take? Please provide a detailed timeline from application to acceptance. The only downside to the application process was the time it took for me to receive confirmation back from all the authorities.  First, while I was at Brooke House College on the Foundation Programme, I had to do my research and select the top 5 Universities of my subject choice to apply. This took less than a week’s time as I got most of the information online and also from their university reps that had come to visit our college for the fair. Then I had to apply through the UCAS website online. There I had to write a detailed description for each and every question asked by the university for my specific course. These questions varied for each university. This took about another week, 1 to 2 days per university roughly.  Then I had to prepare and apply for the IELTs test in Leicester, which was another hectic task. From the time I started preparing till I received my results it took me a good three months to collect my results. Please make sure you give this exam within one year from applying for the course that you want to study at any UK University. As this test has validity for international students. If the test results are any more than one year some universities still accept the scores. In the meanwhile I also applied for the Scholarship program, the decision was made after my foundation programme results were announced. So, you may apply for this prior to giving your Foundation, A-Levels exams. This would take about a few days maximum.  One month after my results were announced I received my unconditional offer letter from NTU. I then had to decide on whether I wanted to pursue my chosen course from NTU. Along with that in a few days my scholarship acceptance letter was also sent to me.  I then had to accept their offer and begin my visa application process so that they would then send me a CAS Letter which was important for my VISA application process.  I had to go back and forth with the university admission’s team to provide them with the documents after my visa was accepted, this took another month.  Soon, now I had my conditional offer letter and now I had to simply arrive at the campus for my final procedure of the admission and provide the uni with all my ID proofs and then they would provide me with a University ID card which was also my bus card (yes you can use this card for transportation also within Nottingham).  My VISA or Biometrics card as it is called, was yet to arrive at the nearest post office, so that took another week after I had arrived at the campus. But, this did not affect my travel from India to the UK and my first week at the Uni.  After receiving my NTU Student ID Card my admission process was complete. So, in conclusion one must start preparing for this whole admission process 6 months prior to the course commencement date.   ...Read More

Shortlisted at University of Leicester and Nottingham Trent University. But chose to go ahead with NTU because of the syllabus and also the campus and city’s nightlife, which is always bustling and happening, compared to Leicester which is a smaller town compared to Nottingham. I also had an offer from Middlesex university but didn’t choose it because of the high living cost in the city of London  I chose Nottingham Trent University because of its world-class rankings in the UK for employability, that also provides a strong focus on career focused courses and work placements, to ensure graduates are well prepared for the job market, and not to forget about the modern state of art facilities that provide a hands-on learning experience. Lastly, for the vibrant student life that completely enhances the overall student learning experience  I had applied for the Jan intake initially but I couldn’t make my visa application in time and had to postpone it to the next intake which was September in my case. Transferring to the next intake is not very difficult with just one email sent to the admin team. I was able to smoothly move my admission to the next intake in September. I chose this university as it ranked amongst top 10 in arts in UK. My overall experience is a learning path for me evolving gradually and learning.
