What Students Say
Likes
- DTU has a great campus and social life. There are good sports facilities and many societies for extracurriculars.
- The newer BTech courses have an updated syllabus that is more relevant than many other government colleges.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure and lab equipment is outdated.
- Many older courses have irrelevant subjects.
- The gender ratio is very bad. There are very few girls in btech.
Course Curriculum Overview
I am still in first year so I have not fully experienced the curriculum yet but I chose the course because it seemed more relevant than computer science and it did not have some of the seemingly unnecessary subjects that cs did. The frequency and timing of exams in DTU is fine but the difficulty level varies too much depending on who makes your paper and who marks it.
Internships Opportunities
Many big companies offer internships like Uber, Goldman Sachs and Microsoft. The average stipend is around 55000 per month and the highest can go up to 2 lakh per month. Over 85% of the eligible students in tech branches are able to secure internships.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placements from 6th semester onwards. The average package is around 20 LPA and the highest package is 85 LPA. The placements percentage for top branches is around 80% and many big companies like Amazon, Uber, Google, Microsoft, etc. offer placements. After my degree I plan on securing a placement on the tech field.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am paying 8L because I am an OCI student but the fees for Indian and CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries) is 2 - 3 lakhs which is much more affordable. Back paper fee in DTU is 7500 which is very high compared to other colleges. There are many scholarships available but they are mostly governement schemes and not the college's own scholarships.
Campus Life
There are many fests and clubs that keep DTU lively. The three main fests are Yuvaan, Engifest, and Invictus and there are many smaller fests in between. Many societies have their own fests to showcase their work. The sports complex also offers many activites for those who are not interested in cultural activites.
Hostel Facilities
The main girls hostel is very good. It is triple sharing with AC and it is affordable. The rooms have big windows and the hostel has an activity room, study room, pantry and a shop. The meal quality is not good but the menu is decent with variety.
Admission
JEE score was required for admission and I joined because this was the most suitable college I was getting with my score in terms of average placement and location and I was getting my preferred course. I had secured admission in other private colleges like VIT and Manipal University but chose DTU as I felt it had better placements and reputation.
Faculty
The faculty-student ratio is arounf 1:15 - 1:20. The faculty vary wildly in terms of approachability and relationship with students. All professors are very different and performance in a class or exam can also depend a lot on the professor. Some professors fail many students unnecessarily and do not teach properly. The course curriculum is outdated for most branches. For my branch - software engineering - the curriculum is a little more updated.
Night Life
There are many food joints on campus, indoor and outdoor gyms, a huge library and many public areas to sit with friends. The campus timings are 9pm for girls and 11pm for buys and girls have a hostel timing of 11pm while boys can roam around camous even after 11pm. At night many hostellers hang out at the OAT (Open Air Theatre) or at Nescafe. Unfortunately the area outside the college is very unsafe especially for girls at night.
