Course Curriculum Overview
I would rate the BBI course curriculum at Lala Lajpat Rai College as fairly relevant and moderately comprehensive. The focus on finance, banking, and insurance subjects influenced my decision to choose this course. The curriculum gives a good theoretical base and helps in preparing for further studies like MBA, M.Com, or government exams. However, it lacks practical exposure, internships, and industry interaction, which could make it more job-oriented. Teaching methods can also improve by including case studies, field visits, and guest lectures.Exams are held twice a year (semester-wise) and include internals (25 marks) and externals (75 marks). They are moderately difficult manageable with regular studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
I paid 13,000 each for FY and SY BBI. TY fees are expected to be similar, totaling around 39,000 for the full course under the general category. The fee includes tuition, development, registration, exam, and other compulsory charges. SC/ST students pay much less—around 500 to 1,500 yearly—due to government concessions. Scholarships like the Government of Maharashtra Post-Matric Scholarship and Merit-Cum-Means are available . I am doing company secretary course for which I paid 45000 tution fees and 20000 registration fees.
Campus Life
Campus life at Lala Lajpat Rai College of Commerce is active and student-friendly. The college hosts annual fests like around January to February, which include cultural and academic competitions. The library is decent, with a good range of textbooks and commerce-related journals, easily accessible to students. Classrooms are equipped with projectors and basic tech, but infrastructure is average and could be better. The college supports sports like cricket, football, and chess, and encourages participation in inter-college events. There are active student-run clubs like NSS, Rotaract, and cultural committees that help students develop soft skills, gain exposure, and enjoy a balanced social life.
Admission
I applied to HR, KC, and Lala Lajpat Rai College for BBI. Got admission in Lala, I chose Lala for its location, affordable fees, and good faculty. The admission process is merit-based through Mumbai University’s portal—no entrance exam required. Cut-offs are around 65–75% for the open category.
Faculty
Our college has a good faculty-to-student ratio (1:30–40). Most teachers are approachable and helpful. A few teachers lack practical approach. The course has 6 semesters with internal (25 marks) and external (75 marks) exams. Internals include tests, projects, and presentations. Exams are moderate
Night Life
Lala Lajpat Rai College, located near Haji Ali, has a decent social vibe. While the campus shuts by 6 PM, and facilities like the library, gym, and canteen close by 5 PM, students often hang out nearby after classes. There are no college hostels, but PGs and rentals are available in Worli, Mahalaxmi, and Byculla. The area is generally safe, with good police presence and public transport access. Popular hangout spots include Haji Ali Juice Centre, Cafe Noorani, Heera Panna Shopping Centre, and the Worli Sea Face, perfect for late-evening walks. These post-class hangouts help students relax, bond, and enjoy a balance between academics and social life.
