- Thee are almost 50plus clubs for both academic and extracurricular purposes. For example I am in AUTOVIT club that does all works related to automation and robotics. I am also part of SEDS,a space club. Variety of events are organised almost everyday
- People here come from different backgrounds and we get to meet a lot of different kinds of people everyday.for example I met this girl from Bihar and she even made me learn Hindi. This university celebrates everyone with different cultures.
Dislikes
- Unhygienic maintenance of some canteens. We can see monkeys everywhere using all thoose cups etc. or lizards in water tank.not all places but few need to be maintained properly
- Almost all Saturdays it's a working day in the name of compensation of classes. We also have exams during sunday if our slot falls on that day. they also sometimes keep exams on afternoon making it very difficult for day scholars.
- Despite normal bus during morning and evening there is one in the afternoon.only limited bus with certain routed are provided. The crowd during that time while catching the bus is soo much.
Course Curriculum Overview
The mechanical engineering curriculum provides a strong theoretical foundation. It integrates practical applications and emphasizes on industrial readiness throught projects and internships. They provide us diverse electives and specialisation to choose from allowing us to concentrate on our respective fields of interest. For example I wanted to aerospace engineering but wanted my foundation strong. So I chose mechanical with specialization in AI and ML. The curriculum provides perfect balance of theory and practical knowledge. Every semester there is an industrial visit giving us insightbof the real world. It enables us to use our knowledge and see real applications related to it. The labs are well equipped with latest technology machines. Seeing how our theoretical knowledge comes into play in the real world is quite stunning. The course is designed in a such a way to give us the perfect balance. I wouldn't suggest any improvements. Every 2 months there is an exam and at the end of the semester there is practical exams. All the topics are well tought within these 2 months.
Internships Opportunities
Through their CDC (career development centre) they provide various internship opportunities. The stipend amounts can be based on the company and the nature of internship. Since I am a 1st year student am not sure about the roles offered but there are a lot of leading MNCs that Providing internships. Companies like TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, Infosys, L&T etc. They also provide internships in research organisations that helps us to work in research projects of our interst. Keeping in touch with the faculties who are knowledgeable in the field of interest of ours will also help us in getting some internship with their reference.
Placement Experience
The placements will take place in the main campus I.e Vellore. In 2024 there were 867 companies that visited. Highest CTC 88LPA and average CTC was 9.9LPA. There were a total of 8k offers. The good thing about this college is we will easily get placed in any IT companies. But getting a core job is quite difficult. The regulars are TCS, Cognizant, Nokia, Shell, Intel, PayPal etc. Specfic training's will be provided for all the procedures to be followed during placements. I am planning on doing my masters in aerospace engineering abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
Admission here is purely merit based. Depending on our performance in the VITEEE entrance exam each one of us will be allocated a rank and counseling date. I acquired a rank of 32986 and got phase 2 counselling. I wanted mechanical engineering with specialization in AI and ML and I got it in category 1 in Chennai campus. The fees structure per year for category 1 students are 195000. In the 1st year alone and extra amount of 3000 must be paid. Depending on the demand of the course and the phase of counselling the category depends. For example a person with the same rank as mine would get only cat 4 or 5 in cs departments. There are also 4 campuses Vellore,Chennai, Bhopal,AP. Vellore is the one usually in demand and people with rank less than 20000 i.e phase 1 counselling will get in with less fees. My friends currently studying data science got seat under category 5 with a rank of 25k in Chennai campus and EEE in category 2 and 3. They have splited all courses into 2- A and B. A- Civil, Fashion,EEE etc B-Mechanical,all CS departments,ECE,IT etc A- category 1- 173000 per year B-category 2- 195000 per year.
Campus Life
We have 2 annual feet one cultural and technical. The technical one is called TechnoVit which usually occurs during the month of September and cultural one called Vibrance which is held during the month of March. They usually occur for 3 days where a lot of events occur and almost all of them are carried by the students. The library facilities are excellent. We have a wide range of books genre with academics and comics. It has centralised AC. Best place to spend time when we have no class. During exam times they are open till 12 or even 2AM. The classrooms are well facilitated with white board. There are almost 50 plus clubs. Each are of different purposes. There are special teams that undertake new projects. According to our interest we can join these teams and contribute. There are clubs like music club, dance club,Auto, F1,design clubs etc.. the seniors in the team are usually very helpful. It provides us a way to interact with like minded people and to improve in our respective field of interest.
Admission
I applied for very less college.since my cut off was low the possibility of me getting any Anna university affiliated colleges were less. So i wrote entrance exam for Amrita University and Vit. I did get Amrita but felt Vit had better exposure. They were lot of reasons as to why I chose this college. Of most the colleges I searched this had mechanical with specialisation courses. Doing a minor in something will make me a step ahead of every other mechanical engineer. I also compared the curriculum with many institutions, this was far by the best with perfect exposure. They have variety of other non graded courses to help me focus on my hobbies and interest. Their tie ups with many foreign institutions and industries will be an advantage for me if I use it in the right way. Again the only way of getting into Vit is through their entrance exam VITEEE. Since my cut off was low I had to rely on these entrance exams. Based on the rank obtained in the entrance we will be allocated a counselling phase and through that we can choose our respective course.
Faculty
Almost all faculties are IIT graduate. We have this amazing opportunity of choosing our faculties and slot. We get provided with all their education backgrounds. All information including their cabin number, phone number is available in the website. Faculties here are easily approachable. I really believe the interest we show on the subject is what reflects our liking towards the faculties. I do not have personal favourites and dislikes. But one thing I can assure is almost all teachers here are very knowledgeable and there are few faculties that if u listen to their class alone it's more than enough. No kind of extra materials are required. Mostly all of them chill but the only time they are strict is during attendance. Each course we will have 3 test - CAT 1,CAT 2,FAT.each course will be provided with course objectives and outcomes and depending on that only the questions are asked. They ensure that each questions fall under atleast one of the course objectives. Going through the faculties notes are more than enought to pass. Only CAT 2 is kinda tricky because it is open notebook. We are allowed to carry our own handwritten notes during that exams. Here we have relative grading system so CAT 1 and CAT 2 doesn't have pass marks. If we are more than class average we are good. For FAT we need to take more than 50 to pass. Very less people I know have failed courses and they have an option of studying it again so it won't come under arrears.
Interview Experience
No there was no group discussion or interviews. There was an written examination called VITEEE. The portions were from 11 and 12th. 40% from 11th and 60 percent from 12th. There was a total of 125 questions. Total duration is 2hrs 30 mins and there is no negative marking. The difficulty level is equivalent to 12th boards but physics alone was jee level.
Night Life
I am a day scholar and I haven't stayed there after 6 pm so I have no idea about the night life or hostel. From what I have heard it's wonderful but there are a lot of restrictions especially for girls. I like to spend time in classroom itself with my friends.
Other Applied Colleges
SASTRA University | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Aerospace Engineering)
To study in that college I would have to stay in hostel given its location in Thanjavur while I reside in Chennai and adjusting to a new city would have been challenging for me
