Dislikes
- Few faculties will make your life hell, but they are just a few in no. and present in every college.
- Curriculum is relevant but vast as well and can become tiresomee. The gender ratio is bad in core branches like mechanical, chemical, civil, etc.
- Mess food is sometimes bad and in hostel, there is water issue sometimes.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always liked the subject Chemistry, also after looking at the curriculum, which included Thermodynamics, Heat transfer reactions, laboratory courses, I was more inclined towards this course. It prepares to deal with the higher problems faced at the industrial level.
Internships Opportunities
Several companies offer internships to the third year students and some second year students as well, who will be in third year in a few months. For example, Microsoft, Google, JSL, etc. offer great internship opportunities to the students.
Placement Experience
students in the fourth year become eligible for campus placements. Many companies like NVidia, JSL, JSW, 09 Solutions, Deloitte, Pine Labs, and IBM. came here and offered great packages. Last year, 1147 offers were made. The maximum package was 1.2 Cr per annum fromthe ECE branch by a company and the average package was 14.57 lpa. Approx 90-95% of students were placed during the placement drive.

Campus Life
There are many annual and technical festivals held in our college. Few are listed below. Roots, held mostly around September, is a cultural fest. Cosmo is an ethnic fest held during Oct last week. There are various books and journals available in our college library. It also has a large reading area where one can study as well as comfortably. Talking about classrooms, they are well designed and maintained, and all classrooms are equipped with smartboards.
Hostel Facilities
For first years, the room alloted is a 2 seater room which is quite small but manageable. 6-7 racks are there in each room and 2 beds are given. There are 2 common toilets and bathrooms each and each floor has one washing machine and water cooler or water purifier. There are total of 8 blocks and 3 floors each. There are two cycle stands as well. The mess food is decent here and hygiene is maintained. Food servers wear gloves while serving food and there are 3-4 counters which eases the crowd. The mess menu is diverse and different types of food are cooked everyday. There is option for veg and non veg as well.
Admission
I had heard that NIT Rourkela is quite good and among the top 5 NITs, and also, it was in my home state so I chose this. NIT Rourkela stands out for its large campus, different clubs ranging from technical to music and literature. Through JOSAA counselling, I had applied for colleges like NIT Jamshedpur. I got NIT Jalandhar Mechanical but I had given higher preference for NIT Rourkela Chemical. The Admission Process is through the seat allotment by JOSAA and CSAB counselling. One has to give JEE Mains and get the required rank so as to get a seat here. The cutoff goes around 95-96 percentile to get a seat here. The most preferred exam is JEE mains. Overal,l the Admission experience is smooth here and hassle-free.
Faculty
Majority of the faculties here are good and approachable. They are kind and helpful. They help to understand the topic and also give tips regarding exams. One faculty I really liked was the one who taught us Engineering mechanics. He really was a nice faculty, gave us liberty, always joked with us, and helped us for exams and gave good marks. I didnt like the faculty who taught us maths in the 1st sem. She wasnt that good, had zero interaction with us, only wrote on board and went away without explaining in detail. There are total of 9 subjects in 1st semester and 8 subjects in 2nd semester. The tough ones are electrical and engineering mechanics exams ,and students tend to fail or score just pass marks in these exams.
Night Life
The nightlife here is quite good and full of enjoyment. There are various hangout spots inside this campus, like near the pond, near backpost, near the playgrounds, near the shops like Dominos, Keventers, etc. Here we also have gym, reading rooms, library, cafeterias where students can spend the day after the classes. Generally the reading room and library are open till 11 pm and gym is open during day time and evening time. Cafeteria is open from day to evening and it is closed during sundays. There is restrictions for first year students for hostel and campus in timings.
