Dislikes
- Distance is a major issue as it is situated 3km away from main road and it is difficult to go outside if you don't have any means of transport.
- There are strict rules for dressing and discipline , a fine is issued when found breaking rules.
- The course curriculum is so haptic that it is difficult to manage other things with course.
Course Curriculum Overview
The subjects are mostly relevant to the course leaving few subjects that are just out the course. The subjects syllabus are designed to provide basic knowledge of subject of different subfields in engineering. The improvement can be made by providing good learning opportunities from real world environment and by providing self learning time, there are no free lecture. Exams are conducted nearly every month and are moderately difficult
Placement Experience
The on campus placement is currently low due to many factors like recession period, the major tech company like infosys and wipro. Only the final year students are eligible for campus placements . For on campus placement offers was for 10 lpa and for off campus it was 40 lpa and the average was around 4 lpa.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fees include 2 lakh tution fees + 50 thousand if you have specialization, and 10 thousand development fees , 10 thousand sports fees and 6000 library fees, and along with this 15000 fees(only in first year) for seat reservation and that can later on be deducted in tution fees. There are scholarship based on 10th and 12th marks, JEE based and even college conducts it's own scholarship exam, I got a 50% scholarship by giving this college scholarship exam .and some of my friends got 25, 50 or even 75 and 90% scholarships, The scholarship retains based on the cgpa scored. So it is required to have a good grade for maintaining scholarship.
Campus Life
Overall campus life is fun and exciting. The students behaviour is good and friendly. The infrastructure is nice and even some parts are under development which on coming years will make it look even more better , there are around 6-7 societies which are actively working which includes prisma the event handling society, verge the tech fest society, panche (dance society), fashionova, tarang , kalakaksh, duality and few others. There are 2 libraries one for engineering. There is one sports ground with facilities of cricket, football, volleyball, table tennis , and few other games like badminton and other indoor games.
Admission
I applied for PIET and geeta university also other than SRM, in PIET I was having difficulty for daily transportation and also they don't allow bunks or getting out of college before college time, also there scholarship scheme was not that much good, where as in geeta university it was still under development of there labs and other facilities and also the campus was not that large, it also carried the problem of transportation, as my older brother is also a passout from SRM University, it was easy for me to get transportation facilities from my door, and also I cleared scholarship exam that gave me 50% scholarship and now our university is the only university with NAAC A+ credit. Also the admission department was nice than PIET. For scholarship criteria there are several options like 10th and 12th grades , JEE score , JEEE ( college based entrance exam) which are good way of getting scholarship. the JEEE cutoffs are based on marks in early stages, and later based on ranks as it is conducted 5-7 times during the admission time.
Faculty
Faculty members are nice by behaviour, they may appear strict in classes but are good outside, you can approach them and they are happy to help you. Though currently due to high demand of CSE and more than 2000 students in CSE there is little shortage in number of teachers available and some of the teachers have left but new faculty members are being hired continuously. The exam pattern follow 2 internal exams for theory subjects which are equivalent to 20 marks , other assessment criteria is class behaviour, assignments , attendance, test which is also of 20 marks and lastly external exams or semester exam of 60 marks. the practical subjects have internal assessment of 60 or 70 depending on subject and remaining 30 or 40 is external waitage. The exam difficulty is overall moderate, and most of the subjects are relevant to course.
Night Life
The cafe is open till 10 in night , As I am not a hosteller but got a few chances to stay in campus for overnight, yes you can't enter main building but you can roam every other places in campus from temple to sports ground both in opposite direction and at the ends of campus , yes there is a temple where you can enjoy evening aarti , and other things, boys are allowed to do anything, they can play in the ground at midnight and no one will stop them , there is good lighting in the ground , but girls are not allowed to out of hostel building after 10 . The hostel has a gym and also there are few machines for open gym in sports ground. As it is situated off the main roads and there is no proper lightings and even transportation outside the college it could be considered unsafe in nights, and as nearest locality is situated nearly 1 ~1.5 km away, so there is such crowd even in day time .
