Course Curriculum Overview
I had passed out BCA and wanted to study further to learn more and in depth. So, I had decided to join the course. Like all other curriculums of Indian education system, the course was outdated and failed to deliver the standard required to be job-ready. The areas of improvement could be to avoid long boring lectures or focusing on ranting textbook definitions and rather focus on real life based problem solving approach development. There were semester exams every 6 months. It was not at all hard if regular study schedule could be followed. However, biased grading by teachers made things difficult for all except a few.
Fees and Financial Aid
For MCA from Haldia Institute of Technology, we had 6 semesters. For each semester, we had to pay around 55000 INR. Caution money was deposited at the time of admission. It was around 10000 INR. We got it back after 6 to 7 years of passing out with 2000 deducted for wear and tear of facilities used while studying in the college. SC and ST candidates used to have some concession on their tuition fees. However, they had to provide documents proving SC/ST status at the time of admission. The course fees must have increased by now as even future batches mentioned paying more than we used to during my interaction with them. Lab fees was only 500 to 1000 INR per semester depending on subjects that needed us to use the lab. The Hostel fees was 3000 excluding fooding costs. The Hostel food was really bad and I got insects, soap remains and bulb remains while eating. There was a training and placement cell that misbehaved with us and failed to provide any placement assistance.
Campus Life
The Annual Fest was called Prayukti. It was held in the month of April generally. There was a huge library with collection of some really top class books. There were basic facilities like fans, tube lights, desks and benches. The teacher had access to a green or black board and dusters along with seating arrangement on an elevated platform. Basketball, Football, Cricket, Kho Kho tournaments were organized regularly.
Admission
I did not apply to any other college and had heard about good reputation of the college from my cousins studying there. So, I joined it. I never applied to any other college and based on my JECA exam rank, I would get any college except the top 3 colleges had I wanted to. We had to appear for JECA exam, get a good rank and then select the college during counseling. The overall admission experience was seamless and smooth.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio was 120:1 approximately. Most Faculty were approachable. However, few female lecturers were extremely rude and abusive. In our department, I liked our Head of the Department, Sk. Shahnawaz Sir as he had dedication and determination visible while teaching and interacting with us. Other than Sk. Shahnawaz, I liked Bipasha Mitra Mam who taught us Graphics Designing. I did not like Mrs Arpita and Banani Ghosh due to their unfriendly or abusive behavior towards students. There were one internal exam for each of the 6 semesters and We had around 5 to 6 subjects each semester.
Night Life
There was a gym, multiple restaurants and a huge playground where students would hangout or chat enjoying the cool breeze coming from the sea. Boys had no limit to go in/out of hostel/campus. Girls needed to enter hostel by 7:30 PM in the evening. Famous hangout places were Gungchill, Shankhachil mini mart and Aryabhatta Central Library within the campus.
