What Students Say
Likes
- Infrastructure is as best as it gets. Single occupancy rooms for hostels, excellent central dining facility, spacious classrooms, etc.
- Faculties are very talented and experienced, a lot of things to learn from them under research.
- Placement services are great, provides ample opportunities for students.
Dislikes
- Infrastructure is good but not quality wise, the quality of construction is poor. Having difficulties in monsoon
- Course curriculum is not that great. It should be according to industry needs, just like other IITs
- While some faculties are great, some are just existing there without much doing. Their sole purpose seems to just exist there without contributing much.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course is Computer Science and Engineering and this include courses such as Database Management Systems, Computer Networks, Compiler Design, Data Structure and Algorithm and many more, and each of them are highly regarded in the industry. Which is the primary reason for me to choose this course. The curriculum itself doesn't prepare us much for the industry, but the difference is very subtle. Students do find time to learn advanced concepts and problems in the duration of these courses and this is a great value. Also if the professor is good, students learn a lot of things about the industry too. Some areas of improvement would be if we are to change the course strictly according to the industry, then some courses should be dropped which are only relevant for values or philosophy, course structure should be changed to incorporate more stuff about the current technologies like AI and Machine Learning, etc. which would be the thing most of the graduates would be doing. The frequency of the exams is very ideal for students. They are designed such that in the worst case, student wouldn't be burdened with syllabus, as they would have prepared some part of it earlier in some previous exam which is a huge plus point. Neither are exams too frequent for a student to feel stressed all the time.
Internships Opportunities
There are good internship opportunities provided by the placement cell in our college especially in my branch. Several good companies offer internships such as Quadeye: 5L/month and 3L/month Goldman Sachs: 1.9L/month DE Shaw: 1.5L/month Google: 1.23L/month Samsung, BNY Mellon: 75k/month JLR: 1.5L/month and many more
Placement Experience
Placements in my college are very good in one sense but okayish in some other. Many companies visit the college but only some of them are good and if one loses opportunity in some top companies, then only low paying companies remain. Students become eligible for college placements after 6 semester. Some top companies visiting for placements include, Goldman Sachs, Databricks, Google, Zomato, Amazon, etc. All of the students in my branch have received their offers except one or two, who will receive it eventually. Highest package this year is 1.04Cr INR and average would fall around 30L INR. Percentage of students getting placed in my branch is around always 100%. My plans after a degree is to work in industry offered to me by my placements, but even if I don't get on campus placement, I would be seeking out off campus placements and I am positive, I'll be in good place.
Fees and Financial Aid
Semester wise fees: 138620 One year consists of 2 semesters All the semesters have same fees, with first semester having a bit more Tution fee: 100000 Caution fee: 1600 Lab fee: 1500 Examination fee: 500 Registration fee: 500 Gymkhana fee: 1500 Medical fee: 1500 Student Benevolent fund: 300 Semester Mess Advance: 14720 Accomodation fee: 16000 Student Welfare fund: 500
Campus Life
Social involvement is excellent in our college, there are many enthusiatic students who hosts multiple activities and college also provides amazing support in terms of infrastructure to such students. Our college's annual fest is Fluxus, which is held around March, technical fests are also included in Fluxus. There is a central library available in our college which is one of the biggest buldings in our college. It contains various books which are centred around our course and also around technologies which are relevant. There are also various novels for fun and stuff. The major part of the library is the study area where multiple students come and study there all day. It is truly remarkable. Within the classrooms, there are smart boards, microphones and cameras too, which help in recordings. For sports, there is central sports facility providing first grade cricket, football, badminton, basketball, volleyball pitches, there is also huge area devoted to athletics. Clubs are one of the most influential aspects of any college and in my college too, club culture is excellent, there are several technical clubs and also cultural clubs. Each club has some activity planned throughout the year which students are engaged in and that is lots of fun.
Hostel Facilities
There are 6 hostels in my college as of now, in which one is reserved for married students, one is reserved for girls, and others are divided among students based on their degree and year of study, all undergraduate students from same year lives in the same hostel. Inside the room, following things are provided: balcony, table, chair, almirah, hangers and bed. also including ethernet services, 2 tubelights and a fan. Each student is allocated a single room as of now, but that would be changing soon. Hostel fees is INR 16000 for one semester but it is worth it Meal quality is amazing as students are the ones which decide on menu and stuff. Students ensure the menu is wholesame and tasty on the same time. One important feature of our Dining system is special dinner which is treat on a whole new level with different types of exotic items in the menu. Special dinner is scheduled once in a month.
Admission
I choose my college because of it's reputation as an Indian Institute of Technology. The sole reason of me being in this college is quality of education which is common for all IITs and my JEE Rank. I could have been to better IIT if I got better rank, needless to say I aimed for the best branch which is CSE. The college admission process is straightforward but still lengthy. Eligiblity to enter this college is only determined by JEE Advanced Rank. Once the student have got their JEE AIR, and they have been alloted seat from JoSAA, all they need to do is gather relevant personal documents according to the list which college provides, and present them on the day which is told beforehand, then all the thing which is left is verification of documents, once verified, the student is good to have some rest. Cutoff for general category on my exam was around rank 1400 in JEE Advanced. I had multiple options of college to choose from namely BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore CSE, I chose the later solely because of reputation and I still agree that this would be the best choice.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is great in my branch. It is around 2:5. Faculty student realtionships are great. Any student can approach any faculty to discuss some queries or contribute to his/her research areas. Student get to learn a lot from projects done under faculties. Some of the best professor in our college is Prof. Dr. Kapil Ahuja. His teaching philosophy is inspirational. There are several faculties which I hate but they are mostly from another departments, they should show some more care towards children in terms of grading. There are two major exams per semester and two minor which are referred to QUIZ. There are mid-semester and end-semester examinations, whose difficulty depends solely on the professor. Some are extremely difficult and some are very easy. In my branch, exams are fairly easy and are good judge of knowledge. In every course, number of students who fail the exams depends only on the professor, but on an average, 1-2 students fail in a course. Course curriculum is extremely relevant and in accordance with the industry standards. While it may feel some courses in first year are a waste of time but those are in best interest of an Engineer.
Night Life
Nightlife in my college is pretty dull for most of the students. There are many places to hangout though but is not advised because of threat of Leopards. There are some cafe where one can spend their time, most of the students are in hostels during night. Gym closes at 9PM Most of the major cafeterias close at night while some being available. Libary also closes at 9 PM There are no restrictions on campus in and hostel in timings, one is free to enter or leave whenever required. Famous hangout places in my college would be 3 Lakes throughout the campus, but it is not advised to go there because of threat of wildlife and safety.
