Course Curriculum Overview
This course was chosen based on many factors. Firstly Metallurgical engineering and materials science is a booming field with applications in all other fields. Second, the course curriculum is better designed to suit the requirements of the industry, particularly the metallurgy industry and also for research in the materials science field which is a very broad area. Another reason for choosing this course was the research-oriented and motivating environment of the institute. The faculty ratio is 14:1 which is among the lowest in all IITs which is highly favourable for proper attention on every student. All the faculties and professors are well-qualified and experts in their fields. All of them are having Doctorate degrees and have written high-ranking papers in international publications. The teaching method is good, but you need to be self-motivated to attend the lectures properly. Term exams were planned at the beginning of the year and were well planned. The exams were very tough.
Internships Opportunities
Many internship opportunities are available, and many companies approach the training and placement cell for the same. The roles like software development intern, web development intern, business analytics intern and project-based internships in core companies are also available. These internships are both paid as well as unpaid. Research internships are also available at many universities like IISC Banglore, and the institute has many collaborations and MOUs with international universities in the USA, France, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom etc. The projects related to the respective discipline are usually taken and the outcomes are real-world engineering applications of what the students have studied. A complete semester is given to students to undergo BTech. Projects and Internships apart from the summer and winter breaks.
Placement Experience
A lot of pre-placement offers are received from the 7th semester onwards. Campus placement is also offered and a dedicated training and placement cell is present. Companies like Amazon, goldman sachs salesforce, Microsoft, Zomato, Flipkart, Rakuten, Samsung, Oracle, Walmart, MathWorks accenture Jio, cisco, Razorpay, Wipro and core recruiters like ISRO, Bharat Petroleum, GAIL, Hero, TATA Steel, TVS< Larsen and Toubro, Microchip, Bosch etc. and non-tech and finance based companies like Deloitte, ZS, fractal, pwc, Futures First etc. have visited the campus for each discipline. In BTech. 89.76% of students were placed and in my enrolled course, the percentage of students placed was 89.29%. After getting the degree we can take the placement offer, go for higher studies or appear in public service examinations. The opportunities offered and the education and training provided are rigorous and prepare us for a wide range of opportunities.
Fees and Financial Aid
A Systematic fee structure for each of the 8 semesters is followed and instructions as well as assistance for paying fees and/or availing education loans is provided without any inconvenience. Financial assistance, if required is also provided. The approximate fee for first semester is Rs.121570, in which the JOSAA security fee is adjusted. the second semester is approximately Rs.138810. If there is any fee hike, it is informed in advance. There are a lot of scholarship opportunities and we are informed about them from time to time like Charpak, DAAD Fellowship etc. There are a lot of opportunities for placements as well as internships also which are communicated to us regularly.
Campus Life
The vast campus is secure and has natural beauty; numerous activities are happening simultaneously. Academics are rigorous and will keep you busy. You will have to take out time to pursue other extracurricular interests. A lot of books and journals can be found and are arranged in many sections catering to all academic needs as well as topics of general interest also. All the popular newspapers, magazines and journals are subscribed. The facility for issuing and returning books is semi-automated. The classrooms are well-maintained and modern devices like smart boards, microphones etc., are present. There is a dedicated sports complex for the sports activities like football and cricket grounds, a swimming pool and facilities for volleyball, table tennis, badminton, squash and a gym. There are approximately 13 cultural and literary clubs and 13 technical clubs, and many events are conducted by these clubs keeping the campus lively overall. Fluxus is the techno-cultural annual fest here.
Admission
The eligibility for the course is to clear the JEE Advanced examination, as well as you must have secured a minimum of 75% marks in the 10+2 or equivalent examination and you must also have physics, chemistry and mathematics subjects in that examination. The cut-off for the metallurgical engineering and materials science course is usually around AIR 11000 for general category male candidates. You must undergo the JOSAA counselling and opt and receive acceptance of the desired course to be eligible. The admission process was systematic, and there was no unnecessary hustle. Proper time was given to undergo all the facilities and to pay the fees. Application forms are available on the JOSAA and the JEE Advanced Website. The fee structure is available on the institute's website. I did not avail of any reservation benefits for admission into the course. The admission process was great, and there is no specific improvement that I wish to see in the admission process.
