Nit Rourkela- The view of an insider.

Mechanical engineering branch of NIT ROURKELA is very renowned department and have a ton of opportunities. The curriculum is still old but the activities in class prepares us for real world challenges. The course should have more industry related courses. Exams are quite frequent like in every 45 days.

The companies like bhel drdo google and many more companies come for placement and the stipends are around 15k. I don't have much idea on this as I am only in 1st year. Still the placements are good as said by seniors.

From 7th semester the students become eligible for campus placement. The companies like Google, Deloitte, BHEL, landt, and other top companies come for placement. The highest package was 1.20 cr last year and the average is around 12lpa. No. Of offers made are around 1000 every year. Most of the students get placed and those who don't go for placement also have a very good opportunity later because of the degree of this college.

Complete fee for 4 years BTech inncliding hostel and mess is 920000. If you have a family income of less than 5lakh then you get 2/3rd tuition fee waiver. And if the family income in less than 1lakh then you get complete tuition fee waiver. The tuition fee per semester is 62500. For students in need there are also alumni scholarships.

The annual cultural fest are Roots, Cosmopolitan, Nitrutsav and the technical fest is Innovision. The feats are spread out throughout the year. The college has a very big library and consists of thousands of books . The classrooms are big and have all the modern facilities. The sports facilities are very good like swimming, basketball, volleyball, cricket, football, kabaddi and many more. There are around 100 clubs and are very active and this clubs play a good impact in students Life .

Hostels are quite big but if they would allot single room then it would have been better. The mess quality is ok and menu is also good covering all regions. The hostel is very affordable it's fees is only 10k per year.

I applied for VSSUT, KIIT, NIT Rourkela for my course and got a confirmed admission from all the colleges. I chose this over the others because it is an institute of National importance and also has less fees as compared to KIIT. I didn't went for VSSUT because it was a state government college and also the mess was not good. The admission process is through JEE mains exam. The cut off was 93% ile fir gen students and I got 97%ile crl and had an obc reservation.

The faculty to student ratio is around 1:60. Faculties are good and they are very approachable. Till now I liked B.G. Mishra because of his experience of more than 25 years and the way he explains. Some of the faculties are new and hence sometimes are unable to explain a concept. Exams are easy if we attend the classes or else it can be a bit difficult. The marking scheme are :- 30 marks in mid sem and 50 in end sem the rest 20 is with the faculty.

My favourite hangout points are golden jubilee building, near air craft, near sac, we have a number of cafeterias and food courts open till 12 midnight . The gym and library closes at 10 night . Hostel in time for boys is 12 midnight and fir girls it is little less.
