Course Curriculum Overview

5

The curriculum is well framed and designed so that a student is able to grasp the concepts easily. It includes both theory and labs classes for some subjects while it is completely theory for some of them. Generally there are 3-4 classes of every subject in a week and a student is allowed to select their own faculty by a system called FFCS. The teaching methods differ for faculties but most of them focus on textbooks and presentations for giving the well equipped notes.

Internships Opportunities

3

The internship opportunities are limited here at VIT, mainly due to current market scenes. Only the top students with higher CGPA's were able to grab the internship offers on campus from companies like Amazon ,Walmart ,Fidelity ,JP Morgan , Societe General, Apple etc most of which led to pre placement offers being made. However many students were able to get an off campus internship offer due to them coming from a premier institute with good respect in corporate world.

Placement Experience

5

The campus placements are excellent in VIT considering the current market scenarios. The college has a centralized placements for all the campuses and over 800 companies visit throughout the year recruiting students across different branches. The average package offered for IT related branches was around 10 lpa while for circuit branches it ranged between 7-8lpa. The biggest recruiter was motorq which hired two students for a package of 1.2 crores.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fee depends upon ones performance in the VITEEE examination. After the exam there is a counselling process and based upon your performance and preference branch along with a category is given. The fee for first category is around 2 lacs per annum and goes till 5 lacs for category 5. All charges are included in this academic fee apart from the hostel and mess charges which cost around 1-1.5 lacs per annum based on type of room and mess facility availed.

Campus Life

5

The campus is huge with all the amenities so one would surely enjoy the college life through the 4 years. There are more than 150 clubs and chapters conducting events on a regular basis adding to this the amazing cultural and technical fests called riviera and gravitas which are held in February and September respectively. The central Periyar library is a three storey buildings with books and journals for almost every subject and research purposes.

Hostel Facilities

4

There are mainly three types of rooms available- ac,non-ac and apartment types and fee for each differ based on blocks and the type. The room contains a bed, table, chair, cupboard and some shelves for arranging things. The mess options are veg, nonveg and special and fee for each increases along with the type of food served. The mess provides both south indian and north indian foods based on a defined menu, food quality is decent for most of the times with proper inspections done by committees over the time.

Admission

The NIRF ranking of the college was definitely a major factor, VIT currently ranks 11 overall in the engineering category and is well reflected in its infrastructure, academics and placements stats. The average package for my branch CSE(core) is around 10 lacs per annum and for a private college its a great factor for me to go for this college. The admission into the college is based on the VITEEE exam which is conducted once a year and has almost the same syllabus as JEE and later through a counselling process seats are alotted.

Faculty

4

The faculties are a mix of experienced ones and youthful faculties with a good command over their subjects. There class ratio is generally 70:1 but sometimes it can be 60:1 or less based upon the subject. There are mainly 3 exams in one semester CAT1, CAT2 and FAT apart from regular quizzes and assignments and have different weightages for each. In the first year subjects are fairly easy in likes of calculus ,chemistry ,physics etc and moves to core subjects based on branch later on.

Night Life

1

The nightlife in VIT is a bit strict, for boys the entry time into the hostel is 9 pm and for girls 8:30pm and one can't go out of the hostel premises until morning unless you get a special permission. For campus the in time is 7pm for both girls and boys with an outing allowed for 2 hours on weekdays and 4 hours on weekends. There are many places in campus to hang around though including dominos, nescafe and several food courts which are pretty affordable.

Placement Experience:

For campus placements students of the 4th year or 7th semester are the eligible ones. Multiple companies like zoho, apple,TCS,CTS, accenture etc have come and multiple small companies too. But the intake for the big and reknown MNCs were low from abt 2-3 candidates only.the placement here is 100% but the companies may vary.My future goal is to go for a government official stream after I finish my masters abroad.

From 3rd year itself a student become eligible for campus placements and some of seniors got ino flipkart like companies. So the college is good at placement. In any colleges, due to college the student can't only be placed, their skills, talents, communication is more important to get placed so based their knowledge the students get placed. only thing college need to do is getting good companies with package and our college also provide it.
