What Students Say
Likes
- The best thing about the college was the vivid campus life full of students from every corner of the country and abroad. The college space is expanding so more students can be accommodated, providing enough living space for all students.
- For interaction of students, VIT provides almost 200 clubs and chapters with a provision of opening a club of your own with the people of similar interests giving ample opportunities for the students to participate in extra curricular activities.
- The course structures are well set for students to understand the subject with knowledgeable faculties. Gives students a great chance to expand beyond the horizon and explore opportunities in research.
Dislikes
- The campus has a huge crowd which increases competition. Everyone wants to be here. You always have to prove yourself and the relative grading system keeps you in check to perform better. The competition factor is great but sometimes overwhelming.
- A strict 75% attendance criteria. It is great, keeps students in check and keeps the learning going. But in case of emergencies, the attendance criteria is sometimes hard to maintain.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is great with relevant subjects and a variety of choices based on a student's interest. The electives make you industry ready by preparing you for the outside world and making you up to date with the ever evolving changes that are constantly being added into the computer science field.
Internships Opportunities
There are certain companies that come and offer internship in the college like Deloitte, Adobe, Cisco, Google, HPE, etc which provide internship with conversion and stipend in Computer Science Engineering Developer and Programmer roles. The stipend ranges from 10000 to 50000 per month.
Placement Experience
From 6th semester onwards, placement activities began. Placements of my college are pretty good. With 90%+ placement record every year and almost 10LPA average package every year in my field - Computer Science Engineering. Many companies visited our campus like Accenture, Deloitte, Zomato, EY, TCS, etc. Highest package secured by our college is 100 LPA. And lowest is 3.3 LPA. And average package still being around 11 LPA for CSE students. My plan is to get a placement as well.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are in 5 categories ranging from 2 Lakhs per year to 5 years per year based on the performance in the entrance exam VITEEE. Scholarships based on merit to the top few hundred students are given. The fees remains the same throughout as decided at the beginning of the course based on the performance in VITEEE. The fee categories are decided based on ranks in the VITEEE exam.
Campus Life
My overall experience was great in the campus with plenty opportunities in academics and extra curricular activities. One can explore interests in various fields. There are people from all kinds of places in and outside India. One can make a lot of friends. Participate in many activities and sports. The annual cultural fest is Riviera which invites many celebrities and organises many events. The annual technical fest is GraVITas with many exciting events. The library has a wide range of books and journals. The labs have good computers with good connectivity. There are plenty of paid and unpaid sports facilities like Swimming and gym. There are almost 200 clubs and chapters in the campus.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are pretty good. There are 2,3,4,6,8 bedded accomodations with common bathroom for all, excpet a few new rooms in the new hostels with attached bathrooms. There are AC and Non AC accomodations based on a students need. The mess has north indian and south indian food both. The food is tasty and adequate with meals for 3 times and evening snacks.
Admission
I chose this college because it was the best engineering college that I could get for pursuing my desired course - Computer Science Engineering. I chose this one because I knew one of the alumni of the college who guided me to get admission in this college after sharing her own experience and going through several reviews. From other colleges, my college happened to give better opportunities and better campus life. I could have gone for government colleges but I wouldn't have gotten my desired branch. Admission process of the college included giving the VIT entrance exam VITEEE. The college accepts JEE scores as well. Based on the rank in the VITEEE exam, one can get admission in VIT and based on respective categories.
Faculty
Faculty members are very knowledgeable and provide great real world insights on subjects. They are helpful and always try to push a student to perform better. There are about 60 students in a class of a faculty. The students have the provision of Fully Flexible Credits System where students can choose their own faculties and slots (morning or evening) in which they wish to study. Course structure includes 8 semesters where in each semester, there are two Continuous Assessment Tests (CAT) and a Final Assessment Test (FAT). CATs hold weightage of 15% each and the exam is of 50 marks which is converted to 15%. FAT is out of 100 marks holds the weightage of 40% in the overall grading system . Rest 30% is of quizzes and digital assignments which consist of 10 marks each. Most theoretical subjects have relative grading where grades are awarded based on how the class is performing whereas lab subjects mostly have absolute grading where the grade is fixed based on the marks scored. Student faculty relationship is great in the campus. The students can visit the faculties in their cabins based on their visiting ours. The faculty information can be retrieved from VIT's online portal. I loved Dr. Sivaprakash S, Dr. Sunija AP, Dr. Jabanjalin Hilda and Dr. Subramanium Reddy who were approachable and taught great in the class. There are hardly any faculties you won't like but it is safe to prevent some based on the review from other students which can be easily asked around from fellow students who might have been taught by thhose faculties. Exams are usually moderate but even if the exam is hard, relative grading will save the day. Most of the students manage to pass all the exams. Course curriculum is very relevant and useful to be applied in real world problems and to establish a strong base. Attendance criteria is pretty strict where you must maintain a 75% attendance to appear for your exams. And to pass the exams, you need at least 40% in the FAT exam and 50% in the subject.
Interview Experience
Yes, there was an admission test VITEEE. Based on its rank, students get categories in which they can enroll in their desired branch and campus and the fee category is awarded based on the prioriry list provided by the students.
Night Life
The students can avail online night slips to stay out in the campus to do their clubs and chapters work. Gym closes at 8pm. Library goes on till 1am at night. Public area closes at 9pm. Boys hostel in time is 9pm and girls hostel in time is 8.30pm. Classes go on from 8am till 7.20pm in the evening based on the class slots selected by the student. There are plenty of good food places around the campus like Tara Ma, Hart Lounge, Katpadi Kitchen, etc.
