What Students Say
Likes
- The things that I like in this college is infrastructure and the friendly environment. The institute has a huge campus and it is easily accessible for the students. College also provides an air-conditioned seminar hall for workshops and presentations
- The library in the college is also very decent. Students can issue the books and reissue online, they don't need to come to the library to reissue. They can issue 2 books at a time. The library contains original census records and various documentary
- The Reading room is one such an attractive place in the college. Students usually go to the reading room that provides a peaceful environment and better wifi connection. Reading room is comfortable with large number of charging points.
Dislikes
- College needs to upgrade the editions of the books it has in library. The editions of the books it provides are very old and it has very limited copies of the latest editions.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course is International business economics and finance that covers the following subjects. 1. Intermediate Microeconomics 2. Intermediate Macroeconomics 3. Statistics 4. Accountancy and Financial statement 5. Trade theory 6. Econometrics 7. Trade policies 8. Financial derivatives 9. Corporate finance and capital budgeting 10. Business analytics 11. International finance -1 12. Financial econometrics 13. Trade law 14. International finance -2 We have to choose four electives. So in total we have to study 20 subjects in two years programme. Since I have a deep interest in finance and international economics, I decided to choose this specialization. Talking about the exam structure, in each semester we have internals comprising of 40 marks (3 quizzes, 1 assignment) and 60 marks end semester exams. Students need not be worried about the exams as the faculties provide the sample question bank to the students to make them familiar about the exam pattern and also they encourage the students to attend the lectures for easy going. The exam planner is released at the earliest so that students can prepare accordingly. There is a flexibility provided to the students to choose the electives that are core subjects of other specialisations, if they find that subject interesting or scoring.
Internships Opportunities
Companies that offer internships are very less in the college. Students try off campus internships. But NABARD , Crisil, JP Morgan come to the college for the internships. But they offer internships just to two- three people which is very less. Stipend offered by these companies is pretty decent. This year, 1 student recieved the internship offer from crisil and 3 student received the offer from JP Morgan for consumer banking role. Many students engage themselves in reasearch projects under the professors or they try off campus internships.
Placement Experience
The placements in the GIPE are decent. This year the highest package offered was 18 lakhs per annum by Deloitte and IDFC FIRST Bank. Although the placements are not 100% but it's around 60%. Students need to work hard and score well in aptitude test and they should start the preparation from the second semester onwards so that they can easily manage their end semester exams as well as the aptitude test. The average placement package is around 8-9 lakhs. My plan is to get a corporate job and gain some experience and exposure in the corporate world and learn how the things actually work. Many companies that come to the college are looking for data analytics role. The ratio of the companies looking for consultant, risk analyst is less based on market demand and other circumstances.
Fees and Financial Aid
Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics offers various courses for post-graduation particularly MA economics and MSC economics. It offers various specialisations in Msc Economics programme namely International business economics and finance, Financial economics, Agribusiness economics, Public Policy , Msc economics (general) and Population studies and health economics. Fee structure for these specialisation vary . For International business economics and finance and Financial economics the combined fee is 5 lakhs for two years, 2.5 lakhs per year. It includes all the kind of fees particularly tuition fees, library fees, and admission fees. For the rest of the specialisations, the fee structure is around 4 lakhs for two years. The reason is that for the initial two specialisations (IBEF and FE) facilities are guest lecturers. Also college provides various scholarships based on the reservation category and many students received the scholarships based on the same. The college fees does not include hostel accomodation facilities. Students have to pay around 1.45 lakhs per year to get an access to the hostel accomodation. They can also for the private accomodation also.
Campus Life
The campus life is good. Much of the meetings and the festivals are celebrated in the hostel. So I would say that hostel life is pretty good. There are various societies such as music society Ibadat, dance society Ada, euilibra society that organise debates and other policy discussions. Majorly each and every festival is celebrated in the hostel as students come from diverse sections. Sports annual week is also being organised in the college where student from different specialization participate in the competitions for fun and relaxation. Overall, it provides a healthy and friendly environment.
Admission
My CUET pg score was 197. I applied in Delhi school of economics but I couldn't clear the cut off. I also applied to the Ashoka University. But I preferred IBEF specialization of GIPE over the Ashoka. As I was interested in this specialization so I decided to take the admission in GIPE over Ashoka.
Faculty
Faculties of the college are very helpful and they have the expertise in various reasearch fields. Students can easily approach the faculty for any doubts. Also, we have a doubt session where the students can easily ask their query or doubts related to the subject. Faculties not only taught the theory but also share their work experiences to make us acquaint with the real world applications. I really enjoy the macroeconomic class conducted by Dr. Ranjit Pattnaik sir. He is really renowned for finance and macroeconomics and worked in RBI as well. What we know about macroeconomics in general is far different when applied to the real world applications. He really puts the best efforts to make students understand about the subject. Also, our statistics faculty is really very good and put the efforts to make the students understand about the topic and how to use the tools to frame the strategies for any study that is undertaken. Statistics is being taught to us through R programming language. We also have the business analytics subject which is being taught us through R and python.
Night Life
Hostel provides various facilities such as gym area, reading room, mess and small park. The timings are till 11:30 pm. Students must enter the hostel by 11:30, though there is not too much restraint on the timings. Famous place is FC road where most of us spent our time after college. The area is very safe and near to the college. Also, the mess food is really good and the outside hostel students can also eat the mess food but they have to pay around 80 rupees per mea which seems decent.
Other Applied Colleges
Delhi University - [DU] | Master of Arts [MA] (Economics)
