Course Curriculum Overview

4

The reason for the choice of course is ofcourse personal interest also, research work in chemistry is highly interesting and also has scope in fields like chemical engineering, forensic sciences etc. The teaching methods are really good and the books prescribed are available in the libraries. The timing of exams are according to the university and is into two halves.

Internships Opportunities

4

Internships are offered a lot usually in the second and third year's with real time work experience and also seminars are arranged for first years as well which is added to our credits also.Companies like mentza, hudson, tata also collaborate to give opportunities to the students

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees that I had to pay during my admission was around 29000.I got admission from the SC quota. And the students from other categories also had to pay almost the same. A special scholarship is also provided named Raj Bhargava Scholarship but it is for specially for B.A courses.

Campus Life

4

The overall campus experience is quite good. Every year a fest takes place named Mecca which has a huge budget and gives a lot of exposure. The books and journals are easily available in the libraries. The sports complex is also worth mentioning with a big ground, basketball court, volleyball court and all sports items. There are also 40+ societies for each and every individual which provides with various events, student portals etc.

Admission

I had applied for BHU (Banaras Hindu University),St. Xavier's College,Kolkata and Lady Brabourne College,Calcutta University. And I had got confirmation for admission in all of them but chose Delhi University over others because of the exposure and facilities being provided. No, I didn't get any rejection from other colleges but didn't wanted to get admission there. The admission process is very simple.Appearing for CUET is the only way to get admission into Delhi University. The eligibility for my course was more than 60% in 12th boards in any stream and getting cut off marks in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The cutoff is usually 450-500/600 for BSc. (Hons.) Chemistry. Every information is easily available on the website.

Faculty

4

The faculty's expertise is worth mentioning and are very approachable for the students. Any kind of issue is immediately addressed by the faculties. Till now...since I am in the chemistry department the faculties are really great and I really like all of them. Also the political science faculty is also very good. The number of semester exams depends on the course.Bit each course will have to take up subjects for GE,SEC,VAC,AEC besides their DSC (core subjects). The SEC and VAC is changed every semester and might have subjects which will have just practicals and no theory exam.

Night Life

4

The libraries are open till 6 pm in the evening and cafeterias are really cool. The hostel timings are 9pm at night. Famous places to hangout nearby are kamla nagar market, university campus. Sudama Chai,Tom Maagie and Dolma Aunty Momo are famous eateries. Also the locality is very safe even at nights.

Other Applied Colleges

Banaras Hindu University - [BHU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Chemistry)

As it didn't provide all the facilities as per my requirement and also the environment was not quite suitable.

Placement Experience:

Placements in IGNOU are quite limited compared to regular universities. Since IGNOU is an open and distance learning university, it does not have a strong campus placement system like DU or private colleges. There is a Campus Placement Cell (CPC) that conducts job fairs and recruitment drives at some regional centers, but these are not very frequent and mostly depend on the location. Usually, students who are in their final year or have completed the course can apply, but there is no fixed semester rule since the system is flexible. The companies that visit are not very large in number and vary every year. Some private firms, NGOs, BPOs, insurance companies, and small IT firms have participated in the past. The roles are generally entry-level such as sales, customer support, data entry, insurance advisor, or junior IT support. There are very limited opportunities for core mathematics or research roles through placements. As far as packages are concerned, the average package is usually around ?2.5 LPA to ?4 LPA, but since IGNOU is an open university, it cannot be expected to have the same placement levels as regular colleges with full-time classes. Also, the percentage of students placed is very small because most IGNOU students are either working professionals, homemakers, or people preparing for competitive exams, so placements are not the main focus. Many students use the degree as a qualification while pursuing their own career path outside. I am currently in my 2nd year, so I do not have personal placement experience yet. The data I have mentioned here is based on internet sources and feedback from other IGNOU students. From what I have learned, placements exist but are very limited, and one should not rely only on them for career building.

The curriculum of my course BSc honours physics is pretty good and it provides sufficient informations in theory classes and practical labs are maintain good and teachers are actively participate in the practicals with the students to teach them more about this course. The frequency of the timing is difficult I can say that because it has many theory classes and on everyday due to which the students can't focus on the subjects and regular activities other than main course.
