Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is nicely designed to prepare us for real world application which includes patient care, administrative and teaching roles. At MBBS level we are well trained to take care at primary level. There should be more and early clinical exposure and instead of PowerPoint presentations, there should be more clinical postings. There are exams after every 2 to 3 months ,which is a good frequency considering the vast syllabus of medical science. Difficulty level is moderate. The examination pattern is 50 percent multiple choice questions and 50 percent subjective/written answers.

Internships Opportunities

5

There is a compulsory rotatory internship, which is included in the 5.5 course. During this we are rotated in 15 departments out of which 13 are compulsory for everyone and 2 are electives. The compulsory departments for internship are 1.General Medicine for 6 weeks 2.General Surgery for 6 weeks 3.Obstetrics and Gynaecology for 7 weeks There are any 2 electives of choice for a total of 4 weeks from 1.Radiodiagnosis 2.AYUSH 3.Lab medicine 4.Pulomnary Medicine 5.Geriatric Medicine The entire internship is 12 months long and the stipend provided is 30,000 per month.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee for entire 5.5 years MBBS course is 5856 INR. This includes addmission fee, tution fee, hostel fee and cation fee .Out of this 500 INR is refundable. Mess fee varies from 4000 to 6000 INR per month. Other than this ,there is examination fee for each professional exam exam ,which is 500 per subject.

Campus Life

5

We have very good social life in campus .We have a annual sports plus cultural fest Inter-College PYREXIA, which is usually held in the month of October. It goes on for 4-5 days every year , during which students are provided holidays to actively participate in all activities. We also a have intra college sports fest INVICTA held during April. The faculties take keen interest in teaching with white boards and with projectors as well. Both indoor and outdoor sports facilities are available in campus like badminton, cricket, football, lawn tennis, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, chess, 8 ball pool, billiards etc.

Hostel Facilities

5

The attached washroom is provided in the rooms given to 1st year students, and also a well-furnished room with a bookshelf, chair, table and an almirah is provided. Meals provided are usually seasonal vegetables along with Daal or Curry, with Roti and Rice. Paranthas, Poha, Eggs, Idli etc are served in breakfast. Non-vegetarian food like chicken is served twice in a week and special diets with paneer is also served twice a week. Hostels are compulsory and a hostel is allowed to each student, there is no fees for a hostel, only 500 rupees refundable security deposit is taken for 5.5 years. Hostel is located in a residential area of campus.

Admission

I chose this college because here examination pattern was earlier 100 multiple choice questions, now it is 50 per cent multiple choice questions and 50 per cent subjective answers. The campus is lush green and well-developed. The college has very luxurious lecture theatres and a huge auditorium. I got rejected from AIIMS New Delhi because it required a better rank in the entrance examination. Admission is on the basis of rank in the NEET-UG entrance examination. Cut-offs for general/UR category students are usually between 800-1000 AIR. The admission process is very streamlined after you get the allotment letter.

Faculty

4

Faculty to student ratio is 1:6 and almost all the faculties are well approachable. The entire course is 5.5 years long including 1 year of internship. Initial 4.5 year is divided into 4 professional exams. Before each professional exam there are 2 term exams and 1 pre-professional exam. So in total there are total 16 major exams Almost all the students are able to pass the exams in 1st attempt but sometimes 3-4 students usually fail the exams but they are also able to pass in the second attempt.

Night Life

4

Gym is available inside the campus at very low cost of 200 rupees for 3 months. There are 1 canteen and 2 cafeterias which are open 24×7. Hostel and college in timings are 12:00AM at night. The campus has good hangout places nearby like Aastha-Path(known as marine drive of rishikesh) and river ganges nearby, rajaji national park is also at walking distance. The locality nearby is a residential colony and is very safe. Nightlife in rishikesh town is not good as nothing is open here after 11PM.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course from this college due to its hospital. It is one of the best hospitals in uttrakhand. MBBS itself carry an important meaning in once life if they have decided to be a doctor. MBBS teachings here is only done to keep you ready for the real worlds. Case discussions are a regular thing here. Total there are 19 subjects that need to be studied within 4.5 years. Few subjects like PSM, AETCOM module should be scrapped completely. They only waste your time as maximum contents they cover are covered in other subjects and few left could be covered separately. It goes on for 3 years with unnecessary postings and practical where you discuss house dimensions, nutrition, etc.

-Specific aspects is the pattern of exams, that was MCQs pattern and now it has been changed to 50% MCQs and 50% theory. -Curriculum is prepared in the view of clinical knowledge, there are seminars and other group discussion is also added in curriculum apart from classes - The teaching methods should be changed from PPT to ppt + black board, because it's very boring to stare on ppt for an hour - we have to pass 4 exams in one year Mid terminal exam in the end of 3rd month of academic year End terminal exam in the end of 6th month of academic year And two professional exams at the end of the academic year Exams are not difficult, the difficulty level is moderate
