Dislikes
- The girl to boy ratio is very very poor.
- The campus is very competitive and demands your constant efforts. If you don't perform as per the requirement, you might get stressed.
- The campus is in outskirts and we don't have immediate access to the city. Although we can go to kolkata but it is still far.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is well designed but they need to be revised. As they are not relevant to current industry need. Although my course is very theoretical and can be improved much. If someone follows IIT KGP curriculum well, he can crack any exams such as GATE easily.
Internships Opportunities
Companies do come for giving internships but it is usually very hard to grab the offer. There is immense competition. Usually students with circuital branches get the offer. Student need to maintain a very good CG to get internship.
Placement Experience
The placement is good in IIT KGP in comparison to other colleges. People are eligible to sit for placements in their fourth year can sit for placements through CDC. The placements are held in two phases. In session 24-25, we have seen 1000+ offers to students in first phase. After getting degree, I would also go for doing job.

Campus Life
We have everything in best. Campus in complete in itself as we have all the facilities from sports equipments to eateries to library. There are many clubs and societies for every activities such as dance, music, photography, drama, robotics, coding etc. IIT KGP is the biggest IIT campus with 2200 acres of land.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are descent. Considering that the campus is very old, our hostels are ola as well. They need good repairing, although small steps are take to maintain it. We are provided with very basic things such as bed, table, alimirah, fan, chair, charging socket, lan port and wifi. The food is descent as it is managed by student authorities but it becomes very monotonous after some time. You will be given the hostel at the time of admission. The hostel might change as well. Usually, students are allotted with LBS hall. In second year, they are transferred to other hall which remains same for upcoming years.
Admission
I always dreamed of studying in IIT. My first choices were IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. But due to poor rank in examination, I ended up at IIT KGP. I had choices to choose other colleges such as IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee etc but I chose it by see the past year placement stats and college environment. I got into IIT by giving JEE mains followed by JEE advanced.
Faculty
IIT KGP has faculty in wide spectrum. Some are great and some are equally disturbing. We anyways have great student to faculty ratio. While some faculty is very supportive, some are very strict and even don't know how to teach. Most of the professors use PPT to teach (mostly after covid). They don't put in any efforts. They bring the same 5-10 years old PPT and roll it in the class. Most of the students don't rely and then and prefer studying by themselves. We have very exhaustive examination schedule. In one semester we have mid-sem and end-sem papers. Before mid sem and end sem we have class tests. We also need to submit assignments and some time give presentation as well. The exams are very strict and we need to have good understanding of the subject to score well. Anyhow scoring a passing marks is possible by studying a day befour exams.
Night Life
The night life inside campus is good. Since we are not in a big city, life outside campus is dull although we have small clubs and resturants. People are often found in Library, Gymkhana, 2.2 Road, Tech Market, etc. There is no restriction in hostel timings but boys and girls are not allowed in each others hostels.
