Course Curriculum Overview

5

Since the syllabus for the first semester of all the branches is same, so right now cannot comment on my branch syllabus. After the first semester, I can say the topics including in the syllabus of all the subjects are good covering all the aspects of knowledge. Perfect ratio of computer programming subjects and other normal subjects. The things taught in college are also helpful for solving the GATE PYQs as i solved some (for Calculus). The frequency of the exams is also perfect , keeping tge student in study mode throughout the semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for VIT university is based on the rank obtained in the VITEEE exam. There are different categories defined for fee structure. I got 17000 rank in the exam in VITEEE 2024 exam and got into college under Category 2 in CSE (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) (3 Lakh rupees per year) so 12 lakh rupees for tge complete 4 years of BTech. Fees based on different categories (Tuition Fees for one year): Category 1 - 198000 Category 2 - 300000 Category 3 - 400000 Category 4 - 450000 Category 5 - 500000 (This is the just the approximate amount and remains constant). The fees for admission into this college is not based on any caste reservation. But provides concession in fees for the people having low family income under special programmes.

Campus Life

5

VIT has its 2 major fests. One in the month of October which is TECHNO VIT, which is the technical fest organized for 3-4 days. Other is the VIBRANCE which is the biggest cultural fest of the college organised in the month of March. It is an approx 7 day fest. Campus also provides enough sports activities and equipments like cricket, basketball, badminton, lawn tennis, swimming. Different clubs are also there like technical clubs, Non technical like Dramatics, singing, dancing. Students have also created their own websites for the ease of students.

Hostel Facilities

5

In hostel, both AC and Non AC rooms are available with different accomodation of bunk beds and normal beds. In girls hostel, normal beds are available for 2 beeded and a few 3 bedded rooms. For more bedded, bunk beds are there. I have an accomodation of 3 - bed normal AC room. The room is well occupied by normal sized 3 single beds, separate highly spaced almirahs, and study table and a chair. Fire alarm and smoke alarms are also installed. The room is censored, means the lights and fans automatically turned off once the room is locked. The room is regularly cleaned by househelp. Mess food is also delicious providing differnet varieties each day. We are served with 4 meals a day, Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks and Dinner. The fees for one year is 242000 rupees ( including hostel and mess fees). The fees depends upon the how much beds are there in room like it keeps on decreasing as the number of beds increases and the AC and Non AC room and the mess taken. There are three options for mess, Veg, Non Veg and Special which includes both veg and non veg.

Admission

I first started by preparing for JEE Exam which is the most popular Engineering Entrance Exam to different Government Colleges, but couldn't make it due to low score. So in search of other colleges, found VIT college. Found this college perfect in terms of college environment, stictness regarding in times, outing snd other aspects keeping your mind completely focused in studies. So gave its entrance exam which is VITEEE. This exam can be given by all the students who completed their 12th from PCM or PCB or both. Exam can be given either in the same year of completion of Class 12, or after taking a drop for a year or two for preparation of exam.

Faculty

The faculies in VIT Chennai are highly educated and easily approachable. I would specially like to mention my Maths Professor of first Semester, Mr. Vijay Kumar Sir. He is such a nice teacher who has complete knowledge regarding the subject and his way of teaching is awesome. Explains and writes down each and every question on white board. Provides practice questions for each chapter after its completion. If facing any difficulty in concept or any question, can be easily approached online on whatsapp or in face in college. Marking method is also good, not too lenient and not too strict. Each semester has 3 exams: CAT - 1 ( 50 Marks) which happens after the first month of semester. Contributes 15 percent to overall weightage out of 100 in finals. CAT - 2 ( 50 Marks). It is an open book test ao the difficulty of the question paper is also tough. From this semester, only the handwritten notes were allowed and not the printed one. This also contributes 15 percent to overall weightage out of 100 in finals. FAT (100 Marks) - Includes the whole syllabus of semester. The level of questions is lower than CAT - 2. The passing marks are 40. This exam contributes to 40 percent to overall weightage. The remaining 30 percent is contributed by the Digital Assignments and quizzes assigned by the faculty.

Night Life

5

Both paid and unpaid gyms are there in college. The unpaid gyms are in the hostel and there is a paid common gym for girls amd boys. Cafetarias are also there which usually close around 9 pm. Library closed at 12 midnight and is open on all the week days except for unignored days like days of heavy rainfall or fest days. The famous hangout places in college are Gazebo, Gymkhana, Dominos, North Square. Since outing is not allowed in first semester, so cannot comment upon the places outside the college. The intime for girls in hostel is 8 pm and fir boys it is 9 pm. Girls are accompanied to library after 9 pm with a lady guard and are accompanied back to hostel with the lady guard. Girls have to frre the library at 11:15 pm before boys and go back with the lady guard.
