Course Curriculum Overview

3

Course curriculum is not good. There are 5 or 6 subjects and 3-4 labs in Mechanical department in every semester. The syllabus for our curriculum is very well as it follows the syllabus for IIT and also for GATE. Specific aspects are like the syllabus and my own interest to take this course. And this is a very good course if you have good knowledge in basic physics and math. Many subjects like welding, industrial engineering, labs like hydraulic machines, power plant teach us how industry work or real life work is done. There is a compulsory industrial training in 3rd year which will give you very good knowledge about real life application. The areas are which i think is design part. There is no good faculty for machine design. And our institute have no license for software like ANSYS, ADAMS. So our college need to focus on that field. Frequency of exam is nice. One is after 1 month of semester start. And other is 4 month of semester start. In between this our lab exams and continuous assessment is also done. And difficulty level of the exam is not high. You can score good marks if you are not waste your time through out the semester.

Internships Opportunities

3

Internship facility is good but very less student can get a Internship. Companies like microsoft, PWC, reliance, ZS, bajaj, hero etc came for Internship. And they provide ppo to the students as well. And those who did not get any internship there is industrial training provided by the college. So you can learn things.

Placement Experience

4

From 3rd year, 5th semester students are eligible for on campus internship process. And you can get pre placement offer after completion of your internship. And from 7th semester, 4th year you are eligible for full time on campus placement. There are many companies like microsoft, ZS, tata, L&T, JSW, JSL, maruti, amdocs, pepsico, reshmi group, visa steel, zenpact, adobe, accenture, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, PWC, Adani, uber etc. There are more than 150+ companies like this. Highest package is 56 lpa offered by microsoft. And average package is 7 lpa. 75 percent students are placed in every year. As I get job in L&T as graduate engineer trainee so i want to learn things from this company. And if possible i want to join in automobile industry in future.

Campus Life

5

Our annual festival name is RECSTACY occur in feb-march in every year. And our technical festival name is AROHAN which is occur during end off January or start of February. In our librarie all time of text book both include foreign and Indian author is available. If you want to pursue higher studies or prepare for exam like GATE, ESE then also material is provided here, you dont need to buy books. In every classroom AC and projector is available. Generator is also there for power cut. Overall class room facility is very good and relaxing. There are 2 playground, one basketball court, table tennis board is provided in every hostes, carrom board is also provided. Any type of material like football, bat , wicket is provided by institute itself. Gym is also present there. So overall sports and extracurricular activity facility is quite good. No I dont think that student who run social groups, clubs has any impact on their academic life. As there faculty member are provided for every club or groups, so for student its very easy to run this. They get suggestions and help from respective head.

Hostel Facilities

4

3 student is provided one room. Its good but for final year student we need single room accommodate for placement preparation. Every room has their own wifi machine. Meal is not good. Its taste is not good and unhealthy. But you have to give 19000 for this food compulsory ????. Thats the bad thing.

Admission

I applied for only 2 college. One is NIT DURGAPUR and other is IIEST SHIBPUR. So my time NIT Durgapur rank was 6 among all NITs and overall NIRF rank was 29. This was far better than IIEST shibpur and also what i know from my seniors NIT Durgapur is better than IIEST. And also it is in westbengal, my home state, so very good for me as I get home state quota. No i did not get any rejection from other colleges. But I did not get my expected branch. I wanted electrical but i did not get it here. First you have to clear JEE MAINS examination and if u clear cut off then you are eligible to sit in JOSSA. In jossa there is 6 round and you can lock your decision in any round. And after that you have to pay seat acceptance fees. And after jossa there is another round call CSAB, if you not get any seat in jossa you can sit here. For my case i lock my decision in jossa and did not take part csab round. For general you need to score minimum 95 percentile to get one seat in any branch in my college. For SC, ST it will be 80-84 percentile. My overall admission experience is very good. Jossa and Csab is quite helpful and very technical process. If there is no fault from your side your seat is confirm.

Faculty

3

In our college some faculty member is very good but not all. Near about 40 percent faculties are doing there job. And other people not taking classes regular basis and they are always late in classes. We are waiting for them in class and everyday they are 20-30 min late. Syllabus completion in not good. Before 1 week of exam they just complete the Syllabus anyway just for formality. In Mechanical Engineering machine design faculty is very bad. The truth is student don't learn anything about design. Can u imagine, as a Mechanical student you don't learn anything about design. And here comes about approch. Faculty members are approachable and they try to resolve your problem. But not always. As for example if you approch some professors for project, they just try to do their own job from you as name of project. But there is many good professors also. But what my experience only 40 percent faculty member is good enough to approch. Faculty to student ratio is quite good. For my Mechanical department there is 180 student in each year. And more than 50 faculty members are there for you. So i thing this is decent ratio. There are two exams in every semester. One is mid term after 1 month of semester starting. Its a 25 marks exam. And there is continuous assessment of 15 marks. And this continuous assessment can be done by the way of respective faculty member. It can be basis of assessment, or basic of attendance, basis of class test or basis of all of above. And after 4 month there is end term exam of 60 marks. So there is the braking of total 100 marks. You have to score min 34 to pass. And 60 and above for grade C, 70 and above for grade B, 80 and above for grade A and 90 and above for excellent. If your attendance percentage is less than 75 percent then your 1 grade will be cut off. And if your percentage is less than 50 percent then 2 grades will be cut off and if its less than 25 percent then you will not allowed to sit in exam. Lab exams are done before end term e

Night Life

4

Night life is quite good as everything is there very close from hostel. Everything is there into the campus so you don't need to go any where. You have to check in the campaign between 11 pm or you have to late entry there. 3 late entry means guardian call. And after first year there is no specific time for hostels. There is no famous place outside the college. Everyone just visit to Junction mall near the college for chill.

Studentsbecome eligible for placements from 7th semester. Various companies such as TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Godrej, etc. come for placements. Earlier many offers used to come however in the recent years the number of offers made have reduced significantly. highest package comes around 10 to 11 lakhs per annum with average being 4-5 lakhs per annum. I have kept my options open after completion of degree in doing further studies that is Mtech or getting into a job whichever seems appropriate at the situation.
