Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is relevant but not comprehensive, because the field of Computer Engineering is very dynamic, it is changing every second, so it feels like the syllabus is not able to cope up, however it does meet the industry standards and subjects like Operating Systems, COA, Database Management, DSA, etc., are taught well. We were taught DSA in C language, that was not very helpful as in the real world, programming languages like C++ and JAVA are preferred for DSA. Subjects like Software Engineering, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence aligned well with my interests. The curriculum taught me enough to be able to manage in the real world. The area of improvement according to me would be to skip irrelevant subjects like BEE, BME, PE, etc. that are taught in the first year and include subjects like Generative AI, DevOps, etc., to make the students more prepared for the real world. The frequency and timing of exams are all good.

Placement Experience

3

The placements are average. Around 3 to 6 lakh per annum packages are offered and companies recruit around 1-5 students. The placements start in the 7th semester and continue till the end of the 8th semester, but the frequency of decent companies declines after a point. Around 45% of the students get placed before the 8th semester, around 20-30% are willing to pursue a higher education, and the rest are either applying off-campus or establish their own start-ups. I plan to pursue a Masters degree in Computer Science after my BE in CE.

Fees and Financial Aid

For every odd semester there is a fee of around Rs. 1500 including PRC fees, etc for girls. The PRC fees is around Rs. 300, so the yearly cost including miscellaneous expenses, tuition fees, etc. sums up to around Rs. 2000 per year. The fees for the boys category is more, while that for SC/SC and EBC is lesser. The fees hasn't changes since I joined the college, so for a 4 year BE in CE, the total amount paid to college is less than Rs. 8000. There are also various scholarships available but it is only for SC/SC category. These fees are same for all the branches like Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, IT, EC, etc.

Campus Life

3

The overall experience is nice, as there are various clubs like IDE, GDSC, ECELL, etc., and these clubs organize various events from time to time. I was a part of the GDSC-GECG for a year and I participated in activities like organizing and hosting events. Recently, Hack the Spring hackathon took place in our college and it was a really great event. The library is also good for studying with focus. There are white boards and black boards in the class rooms but no smart boards. Sports activities are also available but not promoted very actively.

Admission

The admission process was easy, I got admitted through GUJCET exam and I got admission in the 4th round in BE in CE. I got around 97.7 percentile in GUJCET but as I was from CBSE board and they consider 50% of boards results in terms of percentile, my rank got affected because of it. I applied to colleges like LD and VGEC too, but their cutoffs were very high for CE branch, so I got admitted to GEC-G which was the next best government college at that time.

Faculty

4

The faculty members are mostly nice unless you do not follow the rules. A lot of them are really motivating and friendly and support you in your learning journey. They give you opportunities like contributing to the college website, etc. The course structure feels a bit outdated but it is nevertheless good enough. Core subjects are taught well and some professors are even open to research opportunities, you just need to talk to them and tell them about how you are willing to contribute. The exam system comprises of 2 exams, 1 mid-semester examination and 1 final examination. The mid-sem is of 30 marks while the final-exam is of 70 marks. The remaining 50 marks are college internals and viva marks. The exams are of moderate to difficult level (it mostly depends on your level of preparation), and the scoring is mostly valid. The GTU does however gives the students an opportunity to get their papers rechecked. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:60 but the class strength is rarely that big so it is mostly 1:30. I personally liked Bijal mam the most because she helped me enthusiastically for my masters LOR. She is a really cooperative and understanding professor and extremely skilled at subjects like Machine Learning and Compiler Design.

Night Life

3

There is no nightlife in my college because the gates are closed before 7pm, the hostel rules are also very strict. There are a few cafes and restaurants in gandhinagar that are budget friendly. The college opens at around 9 am and the faculties are available after 10:30 am. Some famous hangout spots include the Buddies cafe, Chai-G, etc. The locality is safe to roam at night and the city's night life is also vibrant.

I am in my 7th semester and I was asked to apply. After beging rejected from two I was still provided the opportunity and in 4th attempt I finally made it. Likewise every student is provided ample chances and mostly in penultimate semester around 70% students are placed. Rest all get one final chance in the massive placements activity in the final semester.
