Course Curriculum Overview
I chose MBBS primarily due to my interest in joining the healthcare workforce and to further my knowledge about the human body, in which I'm particularly interested about. The curriculum is very apt and based on clinical knowledge. The practical classes held are useful in learning and mastering clinical skills to become skilled diagnosticians. Areas of improvement could be removing the obsolete topics from the subjects which are no longer relevant or required in the clinical world. Apart from 4 exams each year. Several small tests are held after completion of a portion of a syllabus monthly. Difficulty level is moderate and one can easily pass by studying 2-3 days before the tests.
Fees and Financial Aid
At AIIMS we have no concept of yearly tuition fees. There is one time payment of ?12450 and that is for entirety of the course. Hostel fees is ?0 Only monthly fees you have to pay is mess fees which is approximately an avg. Of ?4000 per month. Apart from that there is minimal examination fees for the final proff exams.
Campus Life
The annual fest is called Pyrexia which is conducted in the months of September to october by the student body called ARSWA. It is an inter college fest and attended by medical students all over the country. Other fests include the sports fest called Invicta held in early months of the year. All kinds of medical and non medical literature is available for free in the libraries. Sports and extracurriculars are well developed and practiced in the campus along with academics. All types of sports are played and competed in. Regarding hobbies, clubs are present for each ranging from singing to dancing or chess etc. one is free to join any club they desire.
Hostel Facilities
First year students are provided dual sharing hostels which can be pretty small. Second years get dual sharing rooms but the room sizes are much much bigger and from third year one gets their own room. Mess is a separate building and is common for boys and girls. The food served is above average quality and superior compared to food from other college mess's. Hostel fees is 0 and no extra fees is levied. One is free to put whatever appliance they want or use however much electricity they need.
Admission
I applied to other AIIMS like bhopal, jodhpur, Delhi however at my rank rishikesh was the best AIIMS I could join. I chose this college against others primarily due to being centrally funded, AIIMS tag, higher stipends, lower course fees and better research opportunities. Admission is via the NEET exam and scoring lower than 700 rank for open candidates.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is sufficient. Most posts are occupied in every department. Majority faculties are very approachable with respect to coping up with academics or pursuing research. In total 4 exams are there in each year. Mid terms, end terms, pre proffs and proffs. Out of 125, usually 3-4 students fail to clear at max. Course curriculum is highly relevant and focuses mostly on practical as well as clinical aspects which is more relevant to real life applications of medical knowledge.
Night Life
Nightlife in Rishikesh is mostly dead being a small town. Most shops and cafes close by 10 pm. Campus library however is open 24/7. Hostel timings for boys do not exist. They are free to leave the hostel at even 3 am in the morning without permission from anyone. However for girls the timing is strictly 12 am in the night beyond which serious consequences are levied. The campus as well as the city is extremely safe for men and women alike to roam in the evening or night.
