- College environment is peaceful. There's no unnecessary fights or quarrels going on over unions.
- Professors are friendly and help you out everytime you need them.
Dislikes
- Class schedule could be better. The classes are also quite irregular.
- there are not many events which helps students bond, like field studies or events.
- The library should have more books. Also the borrowing process should be easier.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum, or at least the curriculam for UG history, all throughout 6 semesters, covers the entire period of history, from the Harappa Mohenjodaro civillization to The Cold War era. It helps students create a mind map of all the things that shaped modern humans and their actions. The curriculam is excellent for students preparing for further specialised studies and govedrnment exams like UPSC. But one thing it should include is the space to give student develop theories of their own, rather than studying in the linear process. There are exams almost 4-5 months so it's a bit difficult.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees, is 1775 Rupees. while the Exam fees is 355 Ruppes. Tuition fees is 900 Rupess. ID Card is 25 Rupees. Union Fees is 100. Scholarship is available. That is given by Calcatta University. students can also apply for scholarship given by West Bengal government.
Campus Life
Extra curricular activities are not that frequent here. College social doesn't happen. Even though departmental freshers programme happens every year. There's a student run inion here. The students' portal is the most helpful one. It helps student keep a track of their academic year and help with scholarships.
Admission
.My first choice was JU and Presidency university. However, in the year 2022, the entrance exam that was the main criteria for these colleges didn't happen. The admission depended entirely on 12th marks. Unfortunately, my own 10+2 marks didn't fit that criteria, so I chose this college. This college has better arts faculty than many other college in Kolkata.
Faculty
The faculty members are nice and helpful. There's not a huge barrier of hierarchy and everyone respect everyone. The student to faculty ratio is fine too. The Economics and BCom departments are among the best. Overall the Arts faculty is supposed to be better. Bengali, Physics, Biology departments are also quite nice. This college also provides BA in Arabic and Persian. Urdu has both UG and PG divisions. Sociology deptment is not that up to the mark. Subpar, I'd say at best. Up untill 2022, CBCS system was followed. So there is semester system and each academic year is divided into 2 semesters. For 3 years, there's total 6 semesters. There are also internal exams between semester and projects in Arts departments. The couse curriculum follows the one provided by Calcatta University.
Night Life
The college is situated near new Market Area, Kolkata. So, there's plenty of places to hang out. Also the food you can find outside is extremely cheap and students of all economic background can afford it. Shhid Minar, Maidan are the best places for a hangout. it's in a very densely crowded area, so there's always people on the streets, even at late at night, doing their jobs.
