Course Curriculum Overview

3

I aim at going to a corporate sector or in a banking field so I chose subjects like Business communications, Financial literacy and economics and all these subjects are really helping to to go towards my dream. Business communications and Financial literacy really prepares you well for real world situations like interviews etc. They try to inculcate confidence in the student and solutions to various situations that can happen in real life. Sometimes the teacher really dig very deep into a petrichor's topic and that thing sometimes disconnects the student and 8 subjects are really difficult for students to handle if has no interest in some subjects. Time limit is a matter of concern we hardly got 1 hour in class during MSTs to complete our exam and also we get 3 hours for semester exams but the questions that come in the exam are of 18 marks each so it feels like we could've done better if time would've been a bit more and that is a factor that I consider to be a bit unsatisfactory.

Fees and Financial Aid

Year wise fees for the course is ?36,000. There are certain scholarships available for people belonging to SC,ST classes and there is also scholarships for students with sports background. Student has to pay extra to avail the facilities of Hostel

Campus Life

Many feats takes place in college and college also participates in different fests like inter college competitions and all. There are also many clubs in college like acting club, music club, modelling club, reading club etc and every student is free to join any club based on his/her interest. There are en numbers of books available in the college library, there are more than 20 books in the library for a perticular topic and student can choose any of them and can also issue them to take home for a limited time. Library everyday opens at 9:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm and every student is free to use library any time between 9-6 l. College also a reading room just above the library where students can study peacefully, complete their assignments etc. Technology is also great in the college there are many computers that are preinstalled in the library the reading room also has ACs, there are many smart classes also in the college. Almost all the sport is available in the college and there is also a huge playing area/ground available the sports offered are cricket, volleyball, football, handball, martial arts and many more.

Admission

I applied in CGC(landra), CU and Amity and I got confirmed admission in all Those colleges, but I selected SD because the final degree that we get after our honours is affiliated by Panjab University, and this helps individuals in getting good placements also the fees is great as compared to Campus and faculty offered and I also had good percentage in 12th class so SD was a good choice for me. Admission process in GGDSD is merit based if a student has scored good in 12th class he can get admission in this college, the cutoff for courses varies every year according to the result in my year it was 81% for BA and 93% for BBA and I am not sure about other courses. College also has CU quota reserved for students who have completed their 12th from Chandigarh, they can get admissions even at a low percentage as compared to general students.

Faculty

3

The faculty to student ratio is 1:18 per class on an average , the teachers are really helpful even if the topic is not academics they also share extra information which is helpful for students. 2 exams are held in a semester one are the internal exams of college also known as MSTs(Mid Semester Tests) they help the students to prepare for their finals. Teachers tell us proper syllabus and blueprint which helps us to score good marks and then the finals are held which comes from PU. While giving exams it's not a haphazard experience everything works smooth, we get proper instructions before exams regarding our roll number, datesheet etc. Almost all the students clear the exams. With my personal experience the exams are not difficult. The course is also great we get 8 subjects in total because of New Education Policy and all the extra subjects are knowledge based which helps us to develope extra knowledge required for growth in personal and professional life. The time given for exams can be increased.

Night Life

5

College is at the heart of Chandigarh there are many places like Sukhna lake, Elante mall, Rock garden etc. Where students can go after the college to hangout the college also has 2 parks near it where students can hangout. Hostels are free of time students can come and go any time but they have to tell the warden that where are they going and warden's permission is must before leaving hostel. There is a huge tree in the ground that is beautiful and students can sit there and relax and also there are two other huge sitting areas where we can interact and that's the most fun part of the college

Placement Experience:

Obviously the placements are offered in the final year but due to the NEP 2020. Various interships are provided to the students of even first year ones. Companies like Airtel, Amazon India, BYJU's, HCL, IBM, Infosys, Wipro, etc have offered placements to the students in their companies. The average package students can expect is around 2-3 lakhs per annum and the highest package would be around 10-15 lakhs. The percentage of students getting placements varies from 5-7% only.

If you choose the good course and score good marks then you definitely get placement in the good company. For example, if 10 students pass out and 6-7 will get good placement in the company.
