What Students Say
Likes
- Campus, the college has a pretty well established campus with highly advanced classrooms and labs and a good infrastructure for students.
- Culture, the high approach towards academic success and discipline followed by the college is incomparable.
- Highly qualified and well behaved teachers, who are always available to help the students whenever they need them.
Dislikes
- The surroundings, because of being situated in a under development area, there are not much resources around the college. Mostly the places are being build and are currently barren.
- The intense pressure on attendance, students are sometimes forced to maintain a high attendance in order to appear for the exams, which being a student of mass communication causes some problem to me atleast.
- Not so happening, the college has a grand annual event but apart from it there are not much happening in the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is very well designed, it's well thought and designed in order to cope with the demands of the companies outside. The course takes the students in a journey of learning both the books, the theories as well as getting on field and real life experience. Thus having a blend of both the fields, helps the course in being very relevant.
Internships Opportunities
Internships like, Consultancy are given, where mass comm people are asked to consult the clients on their various needs. Marketing is also provided, where people from mass comm and business studies are asked to join the marketing team of companies and work for their profit.
Placement Experience
you are given summer internships from semester 4, however for campus placements one must wait untill the final year, which for the new UGC batches will be semester 7 and 8. Several companies visit to hire students and take them onboard.
Fees and Financial Aid
Per semester i have to pay a fee of 66,700 and throughout the 7 semester this remains the same, however in the final semester they charge an additional 5000 for alumni membership. Yes certainly there are several scholarships based on academic merits over the past semesters and students can apply for them and get a huge deduction on their academic fees.
Campus Life
There are a lot of clubs or societies as they are called here - 1. Xucas - for arts and cultural activities 2. Xuss - for sports 3. Xinephile - for cinema and films 4. Xposure - for photography apart from these there's the annual fest, xavrang which is celebrated with extremely high enery by everyone.
Admission
Major reasons of me choosing this college over others are - 1. Distance, it's pretty closely located to my house and in general also it's pretty closely located to the main kolkata, newtown area. 2. The respect, Obviously being a student of st. Xavier's has a huge respect in the professional as well as social perspectives. 3. Course, the course i wanted to opt for, was being taught here in the best possible way in the entire city of Kolkata.
Faculty
The faculty members are all very highly qualified, some of the top professionals in their fields and with an advanced experience in both the classroom and the field work, they are some of the most educated and intellectual people to communicate with and learn from on a daily basis. There are two exams per semester, one is a mid term and another one is the end sem.
Night Life
As i said earlier, the college is situated in a remote area, an area which is under development, maybe in the next 5-10 years, it will have a fantastic environment around it's campus, but for now if students wants to hang out, they have to travel far to other places.
