What Students Say
Likes
- The thing I liked the most which comes to mind first is the Campus, its very large has tons of greenery and provides everything you need from shops to food inside the campus grounds leaving you with no real necessity to go outside.
- There are people from all over the country so it gives you a multicutural experience
- Hostel facilities for me have me more than satisfactory.
Dislikes
- The intake is a little too much and it seems to be increasing every year making the campus congested despite its size.
- The weather in the area can be quite unforgiving barring the winter months.
- The food given in the mess is comparatively better when taking the mess of other universities in regard.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is known to be updated often which prompted me to choose the course. The curriculum prepares us quite well. Areas of improvement would include considering industry needs a little more when it comes to certain courses. There are too many exams it would better with just one internal exam.
Internships Opportunities
There are internships provided from the 5th semester onwards for top companies it is around 75k per month to 1 lakh. College does not provide internships for small companies. Two projects are to be completed in the 4th year for credits.
Placement Experience
From the end of the 6th semester students become eligible for campus placements. There are too many companies to list but some notable companies were, Google, Oracle, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon. They all took around 10 people. Highest package offered was 1 crore by a company called Motorq to 2 students. The percentage is just above 90%. After getting the degree I plan to get a job or do my masters abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year-wise fee I had paid for my course of Btech in Computer Science was 4 Lakh per annum. The tuition fees for each student depends on whether their course comes under group A or B. Mine is under group B for this group there are 5 categories of fees depending on your rank in the VITEEE exam. Category-1 is approximately 2 Lakh per annum, 2 is 3 Lakh per annum, 3 is 4 Lakh per annum, 4 is 4.5 lakh per annum, and 5 is 5 Lakh per annum. There is nothing for management sc, st. For group A courses the fees are lesser. Scholarships are provided for those who score under 150 or 100 rank in the VITEEE exam. There are different programmes such as STAR where VIT gives large scholarships to students from low income families in certain districts in Tamilnadu.
Campus Life
There are 2 major annual events one is the cultural fest Riviera and the other is the technical fest Gravitas. Gravitas is held around the month of September whereas Riviera is held in February. There is a website provided by the university for journals and research papers and there is wide variety of books in the library. There are many sports offered such as Football, Cricket, Martial arts, Hockey, Swimming. The appropriate facilites for these sports are also present. Other extracurricular activities include hundreds of clubs and chapters who hold many events throughout the year.
Hostel Facilities
In the room you get a table, wardrobe, bed and a shelf for each person irrespective of whatver number of people your room holds. The meal quality is good, in some blocks cleanliness of plates and cups are compromised so the students have to be cautious. It is affordable. There are a good number of PGs available within 2 km distance from the college.
Admission
The reason mostly revolves around whether I could get a specific course or not. This was the best college that provided me this course. Regarding why I didn't make it to better universities, I just did not get a high enough rank.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is about 1;10. The relationship is dependent on the faculty. Most faculties are quite approachable and on average the experience with faculties has been good. I would not like to name any faculties as I am still in the university. There are 3 sets of exams every semester for theory subjects two internal examinations with about 5 weeks in between namely, CAT1 and CAT2 then with another 4 weeks gap is the Final exam i.e. FAT. CAT1 and 2 have a 15 mark weightage each while FAT has 40. Rest go to assignments and quizzes. They are moderately difficult, but your performance depends on the class average as the system of grading here is relative grading. Amount of students failing is subjective owing to the relative grading system. The course system is updated according to top university standards like IITs.
Night Life
There is no nightlife in the campus, you can only stay out late if you have club activities. There is a night mess available in each block from 10:30pm-12:30am . The locality is adequately safe to roam around if you're travelling out for some reason. There are a lot of small restaurants and shops to hangout but not at night.
