Course Curriculum Overview

4

The BA economics program is a 50% theory and 50% problem paper. In this program we learn about the basic of Economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics and learn about mathematical methods for economics and statistics. As a part of this course we have to do a lot of certificates courses which in my opinion is unnecessary as instead of imposing a compulsory certificate course it would have been better if they allowed us to choose a practical course that would help us in the future like Excel or tally. There will be two exams conducted every semester and the exams are moderately difficult and the valuation is fair

Internships Opportunities

2

A number of students from the first in second shift go for their internships after college. The college encourages such internship and provides them with additional credit if they intimated the college before such internship.

Placement Experience

3

The college of first placements for students and the average package is around 3-5 lakhs per year. Various companies like Wipro, cognizant, federal Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank etc offers placement in the college. Most of the students in college will go for higher education and in the remaining who does not go for higher education gets placed. I plan on doing my masters in economic after finishing the school

Fees and Financial Aid

The college fee for the first year was Rs 65700. This included the fee paid for tuition, language fee and the other state fee. The college does offer scholarship programs and offers programs like mid day meal to help out the financially less stable. The fee for the 2nd and 3rd year are 55000 bringing the total fee upto rs 175700

Campus Life

4

The annual fest of the college is Pratibha which is usually held once in October. Yearly magazine containing events that happened throughout the year and articles by faculty and students is published once a year and is headed by the English department. Each department in the college will have its own club and then there are various other extra curricular club such as the dance team, football team, fashion team etc.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel offers single, double, triple and four sharing rooms. The room that I was allotted was not particularly good as it was just a cabin. The early fee was rupees 100000. The college hostel provided veg and non veg options. Non-veg is provided during dinner. The food is relatively good hostel

Admission

Saint Joseph University has very flexible timing due to the 3 shifts. This makes a very convenient for people working are doing additional courses like chartered accountancy or ACCA. This is one of the reasons why I choose this college. I finished my 12th grade in 2020 and was doing CA before deciding to join college. I also applied in Kris jayanti College in Bangalore but I did not choose this college as they told that my application would only be considered after all the students of the present year would be considered even though I had 97% marks. I finis

Faculty

5

Saint Joseph University offers a large number of courses due to which there is a large number of students so the number of facilities might be a little less compared to the number of students. However the existing facility is very experienced and approachable. Each semester will have an end semester exam and mid semester exam. The mid semester will be valued by the faculty in college and the end semester examination will be given to an external for valuation

Night Life

2

The college hostel has a curfew of 6 o'clock and people can only go out beyond this time with prior permission. The permission however is very easy to obtain as the just need to write a letter to the hostel administration. The college has a gym and badminton court which can be utilised post six o'clock and students can play football till 6 o'clock. There are a various places to hang out in college like the bleachers and most of the people will be hanging out in the college canteen

Other Applied Colleges

Christ University | Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Economics)

Im doing this course as a dual qualification along with CA and applying in Christ just for the sake of a degree was too much of a financial burden

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of the dual degree that it has to offer, christ is one of the very few institutions that offer dual degree and allow you to explore both the subjects or gain combined knowledge of both the subjects. The curriculum is very up to date with subjects that relate to real world problems. What i like the most about my curriculum is the Learner centric approach where they divide the class into halves so that the teacher student ratio can be maintained in order to achieve full efficiency. One area of improvement can be inculcating more soft skills traininng into it.

The students are eligible to sit for placement in their final years. The companies which comes for the placement are deloitte, goldmanSachs, amazon and many more reputed companies. And they do make many offers. The highest package reports around 30 LPA and the average goes on around 3 to 4.5 LPA. Around 70-90 percent get placements. My plans is to pursue higher studies.

Placements are good. Students arw given chances to take exams and get job opportunities from there. Field trips and internships, orientations, talk shows are organized to prepare students further before stepping out for jobs. They can either take the placements they get or opt for higher studies, which is what i am doing as a degree in psychology alone does not grant a wide scope in the jobs spectrum.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements towards the final semester of their course. Currently, I have only been using the help of my faculty for internship opportunities, since I am not looking for placements. But they have connections with big names in the communication sector, and they often have personalities coming in to give talks and interact with the students. A great number of students opt for placements and approximately 90% of them do end up getting posted at really good companies. Others choose to continue with higher education. My plan after receiving my degree would be to take up a diploma in literature in the UK, while simultaneously finding myself a position at a good publishing house there.

Placement Experience:

From my seniors, I hear that 20/30 % of students from our college get placed. But now being in my final sem I know the reality. For covid and lockdown, the placement sector has been badly hit. Only a handful of companies came this year (5/6 companies). 4/5 people from our batch are placed but no placement for the big chunk of people. From 5th sem students become eligible for placements but in 5th sem, no company came to our college for placement this year. Only in the 6th sem, the placement cell started. Companies that visited till now ( some of them came to take interns and didn't offer full-time jobs) 1) Clevertize, 2) Social Panga, 3) Robert Bosch GmbH, 4) Saatchi & Saatchi, 5) Publicis, 6)PR Pundit, 7) McKinsey, 8) Edsol Edtech, 9) Momo Media, 10) MSL, 11) Genesis BC, Offers: 1.5-3 LPA (average). I plan to send CVs personally to companies through LINKEDIN and other job search platforms because the college hasn't provided us with good placement offers as claimed.
